The Cowboys aren't using Carpenter correctly. He is a pass rushing OLB. They have drafted quite a few aftr him and they have all been busts. Even Ware did not get his first sack of the season until last week.

After watching Bobby play 4 years at OSU I know he's a 4-3 OLB plain and simple. He needs to be used in a 4-3 Defense. That's what he belongs in.

Here's a short article that's complimentary toward Carpenter, the first one I can recall. Few defensive players have been ridiculed like Carpenter, even though he had very little opportunity to play until this season. And when he played morehe did quite well. I believe he's a free agent this year, would be nice to see a team sign him and use him like Clay Matthews.

LB<STRONG itxt="1"> Bobby Carpenter[/b], a 2006 first-round pick who never has lived up to expectations, is in the midst of his best season. Carpenter, who plays mostly in the dime defense, has a career-high 48 tackles and two sacks. He recovered two fumbles in last week's playoff win over Philadelphia and has done a solid job covering tight ends man-to-man for much of the season. <BR itxt="1"><BR itxt="1">Carpenter had seven tackles in the previous two seasons combined. He always has been criticized by the coaches for not being physical, a necessity in the 3-4 scheme because linebackers must take on 300-pound guards.

But in the dime, he can be a finesse player because he's much more involved in coverage. He is a good athlete and a smart player. He does a good job of disguising whether he is blitzing or dropping into coverage.

The coaches have blitzed him quite a bit lately, especially up the middle, because he has a knack for timing the snap count and the patience to wait until blockers have committed before making his move. - Jean-Jacques Taylor

He has finally got some playing time and he is starting to shine in the playoffs so far. As a lifelong Cowboy fan it is sure nice to see two white linebackers in Brooking(captain of the team) and Carpenter almost always on the field and making important contributions.

I hope Carpenter shines with the Rams. He's about the only white LB drafted in recent years who has been called a "bust" even though the Cowboys seemed to have it in for him from the day he was drafted. If he emerges with the Rams it will help boost the perception of white defensive players and make the Dallas organization look like fools. It would also be nice if Dan Connor gets to start this year with Carolina as he's been buried as a WSTD thus far.

As of now it looks like Diggs, Laurinitas, and Carpenter will be the starters. That could change if Vobora beats Diggs out for the starting job.

Remember when the Ram defense had starters like Jack Youngblood, Mike Fanning, Fred Dryer, Jim Youngblood, Jack Reynolds, Tom Brudzinski, Dave Elmendorf, and Nolan Cromwell? Those players started for the LA Ram defense in Super Bowl XIV. Throughout the 1970's, they were about the best defense in the NFL.

Sport Historian I remember that crew very well. I also think they had a white starting corner back the year they played in the 1980 superbowl. I think his last name was Brown of all names. I was there at the rose bowl when they lost to the steeler.

Eddie Brown is who you mean. He was a special teamer and backup safety who played on passing downs. Pat Thomas and Rod Perry were the Ram starting corners in Super Bowl XIV. The 70s Rams were a favorite team of mine.

I have read that Eddie Brown (as I wrote above, Brown was in on passing downs) was supposed to help cover Stallworth but didn't get there in time. The NFL Network showed the original broadcast a few weeks ago. The Ram starting defensive backfield was Pat Thomas and Rod Perry at the corners with Dave Elmendorf at SS and Nolan Cromwell at FS.

Three years later I got to see John Riggins demonstrate what a power white RB was. Good times growing up. When I played safety for my high school varisty team I picked number 21, same as Nolan Cromwell. He was a great atheletic player. I remember he made this great interception in the end zone and jumped higher than Clark did for the "Catch" in the 49ers vs Cowboys game.

Do you remember when Cromwell dropped an interception that hit him right in the hands in the 3rd quarter? It would have put the Rams up 26-17.

Another thing about that game. I have read on a LA Ram fan site that the ticket-scalping carried on by Georgia Frontiere and her new husband, composer Dominic Frontiere, lessened the advantage the Rams figured to have as the host team.

S.H. I don't remeber that possible interception he dropped in the game. I do remember Vince Farragamo though. It was either the year they went to the super bowl or the year after that he had a game that he threw for approx 475 yards! I know it was over 400. Remember that?
