The jaguars' draft an unproven wide receiver, and look at the short leash the media puts on Gabbert. They can't wait to proclaim him a bust. I wonder if they will say the same thing about RG III?

No excuses for Gabbert after Jaguars' NFL draft move

We can't know yet whether or not Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert will be a bust. (Reasonable minds disagree.)
This much we do know: Jaguars general manager Gene Smith believes in Gabbert and is doing everything possible to support his guy. The Jaguars moved up two spots Thursday night to draft wide receiver Justin Blackmon No. 5 overall. "He's got an edge to him," first-year Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey told The Associated Press. "He's one of these guys who doesn't think he can be covered. That's pretty important at that position with that kind of confidence, that you can line up and dare somebody to try to stop you and believe that you can't be. I like that edge."
The Jaguars (over)paid big money for free-agent wide receiver Laurent Robinson. And now they did everything possible to acquire the top receiver in this draft.
"If we're productive in the passing game, it will help in a lot of areas -- the run game, other receivers, tight ends, backs," Mularkey said.
Jacksonville only gave up a fourth-round pick (No. 101) to move up two spots. We have our doubts that Blackmon is a true No. 1 receiver, but he was the best receiver in this draft. The Jaguars got him.

Gabbert is out of excuses.

Oh boy, he's had 1 virtually training camp-free year to prove himself on a really bad team, and now he's "out of excuses"?? I remember Jason Campbell having YEARS of sub-par seasons to prove himself, and the ones making excuses for him were the media. Same for dink-and-dunk king David Garrard on these same Jaguars. Looking over the Jags roster for wideouts, Gabbert's going to have to be some kind of a miracle worker. He's got talented, yet wildly inconsistent Marcedes Lewis as one of his tight ends, "old man" Lee Evans (already slowing to a crawl at only 31 years old) as the big dollar receiver, and then a cast of never-has-beens/never-will-be's like Brian Robiskie and Laurent Robinson.

I don't know much about his new guy, Jarrett Boykin from V-Tech, but Justin Blackmon should be the best on the team. I saw him a couple of times when OK State played Mizzou, and he's tough to cover, and he's strong and tough to bring down. Hoping that he develops a chemistry with Gabbert to silence the doubters who are looking back at the bad Garrard years as some sort of watershed moment for the franchise.

From what I’ve seen of Laurent Robinson during his time with Dallas, he could be a future star at the receiver position. With Miles Austin injured last season, Robinson was very good in his stead, totaling 54 receptions for 858 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He did this with no offseason workouts with the team, and after being cut and re-signed several times in the beginning of the 2011-2012 season.

Also, to be fair, Robinson hasn’t gotten the greatest treatment in the NFL. Despite being a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] round pick by Atlanta, he’s been traded once by the Falcons and cut at least once by the Rams, Chargers, and Cowboys.

But alas, like all blacks who exhibit the least bit of potential in the NFL, Robinson was instantly rewarded by Jacksonville with a 5-year, 30 million dollar contract in the offseason. Naturally, I hope that he fails and is replaced by a white receiver in the future. In the meantime, perhaps Robinson's seemingly legitimate talent (truly rare for a black journeyman receiver) could help Blaine Gabbert avoid his inevitable “Tim Couch Destiny.”

We can all hope. I would rather see the names "Matt Jones"and "Blair White" on the roster, but that's probably wishful thinking. At this point, I'd just like to not see another talented white QB run out of town by hated DWF's who long for David Gerrard and pine for RGIII.

Gabbert needs to take tremendous strides. We all know his time frame for success is alot shorter than a quoatback's. I hope this full offseason and having a competent head coach will help improve his game. He has all the tools.

Looking better

Gabbert has looked much better this year, despite the fact that Blackmon has looked like a bust. If I had any criticism of Blaine it would be that he doesn't put that much arch on the ball. This will make it more difficult to complete long passes, assuming of course that he has anyone to complete a long pass to. I would also like to see him run more, but I'm just nitpicking, he has the tools to be a great quarterback.

Well, now it looks like Gabbert may have to wait for another opportunity:sad:. Chad Henne has really produced the last couple of weeks.

It's tough for Gabbert to have a say at this point in the season since he's been placed on IR. We'll wait until next year. In the meantime, however, Chad Henne has looked good, and I support him fully as he's another one of those hated pasty-faced non-"dynamic" quarterbacks.

Gabbert is one of the most hated QB's by the DWFs that I've seen. Go to any Jaguars forum and see what I mean, heck any mainstream forum or news outlet, for that matter. Anyway, I came across this story, Jaguars stick with QB Gabbert as starter vs. Jets, and was prepared for more Gabbert hate, but was pleasantly surprised. The writer detailed why Gabbert has had struggles, and how he has not had time for proper evaluation. Here is a snippet that Teddy Bridgewater-craving DWF's overlook in their searing rage:

Bradley has rotated both quarterbacks throughout training camp, giving Gabbert and Henne plenty of work with the starters while trying to figure out who will win the job.

Many believe it will be Gabbert, who's younger, more mobile and coming off consecutive seasons in which Jacksonville had issues around him. Gabbert had no offseason as a rookie because of the NFL lockout, was thrown into the starting lineup in Week 3 and played with one of the worst receiving corps in the league.

He was expected to show significant improvement last year, but he played behind a patchwork offensive line and with two young receivers in Shorts and Blackmon. Jacksonville also lost Jones-Drew to a season-ending foot injury in October.

So Bradley and new general manager Dave Caldwell believe it's difficult to truly evaluate Gabbert's viability as an NFL starter.
But I'm sure that in the same circumstances, ANY black quarterback would have just taken the Jags straight to the Super Bowl behind their room-brightening smile.

I was really high on Blaine Gabbert coming out of college at Missouri, but unfortunately the DWF's have put him on an extremely short leash. The Jacksonville DWF's are already clamoring for Teddy Bridgewater or Tahj Boyd to be the savior of the franchise. I really hope Gabbert puts it together this year and puts the Bridgewater/Boyd talk to bed once and for all.

All white QB's are on a short leash. The propaganda machine to tear down whites and replace with blacks is relentless. Even Andrew Luck, if he had a so-so year, would be lambasted and his head called for. Gabbert landed into a bad situation on a bad team, and then an injured bad team. He can be a solid franchise QB, but I suspect that he needs confidence building after these two years and the relentless pounding of the media and DWFs. Nobody is immune to it.

Gabbert has been named the starter and will miss the next two games while healing from a thumb injury. He has gotten better each season and was drafted as a project. Hopefully in year 3 he makes the leap to becoming a very good QB.

I hope Gabbert finally has at least a semi-decent line protecting him. So many unrealistic expectations are put on the quarterback when the other 10 players have to also execute a play properly for it to work. Gabbert has had almost no time to analyze and look downfield, reminiscent of how David Carr's career was never what it could have been as he was brutalized by a horrible o-line time and again. Same with Patrick Ramsey and Tim Couch, all first rounders who never had a chance because of the lack of talent around them.

Gabbert is the second youngest starter in the league, a couple of months older than Griffin. He had a better passer rating and completion percentage than Andrew Luck last season. Working with less talent.

I love how the caste-ian sports media is so quick to label Blaine Gabbert as a bust, despite having a decent TD to INT ratio and a good QB rating. Just go to some of the Jaguars DWF message boards to see how much they despise him. Sucks to hear that he's going to miss the first 2 games. If there is any white QB I'm pulling for this year, its him. The DWF's were grilling the Jaguars brass for not drafting Geno Smiff this year. Could it be that they just don't think Geno Smiff is that good and Gabbert may just shine if given the proper amount of time to develop? Nah of course not. The DWF's will keep repeating the tired old mantra that Gabbert sucks and that a black quarterback like Tajh Boyd is the answer to all of Jacksonvilles offensive woes.

Gabbert has been traded to the 49ers. He has an opportunity to get some good coaching. He may be able to develop more as a backup.

Gabbert may have been thrown into the fire too soon at Jacksonville. After some seasoning on the bench perhaps he could emerge as a quality starter.

Well, now's Gabbert's chance. He has been named the starter for SF over Kapernick.

Gabbert's been in the league for some years now. Hopefully he has developed as a quarterback.

Good luck to Blaine Gabbert!

I still think that if his career had been handled differently he could have been a decent starter. Maybe he still can.
