i just found out that Colts signed Griff Whalen as well. since they got rid of Gonzalez and Blair White, i guess. i like Griff but i'm puzzled by the fact they didn't keep sure handed White, who, in my opinion is better than Whalen (and Stanford is one of the very few college teams i followed on a semi regular basis).

anyways, i hope that with Luck's help he will at least get a solid audition for Colts slot WR (and of course, that Collie starts!)

Man, Andrew has played very, very well in Indy's first two preseason games. I watched him playing on the road against the Pittsburgh Crawfords last night and he had little trouble moving the team against the Crawfords' vaunted defense. He's reputed to have a photographic memory to go with his physical talent, so he may be even smarter than Peyton Manning.

It might be a little premature to praise Luck so much, but he certainly looks like the real deal. For what it's worth, Ron Jaworski is also a fan:

ESPN's Ron Jaworski suggested on SportsCenter Monday that Andrew Luck is already so good he may be considered a top-ten NFL quarterback by the end of his rookie season. We wouldn't be surprised. "Small sample size," Jaws conceded, referring to Luck's first two preseason games, "but (he) shows those quarterback attributes that lead me to believe he's going to be a great one." Luck's pocket movement has been sensational against the Rams and Steelers, and he's been clearly in control on about 50 snaps so far. We're loving him as a high-end QB2 in fantasy.

I didn't get a chance to watch most of the game yet but Mike Ditka said that the defense Pittsburgh was playing against Luck (play and playcalls) looked like they were playing a playoff game rather than a preseason game. Usually teams keep it pretty vanilla in preseason, I read that they were using some pretty exotic blitzes against him yesterday so Luck should be great right off the bat.

I was under the impression that Robert Griffin III was getting more commercials and ads over Andrew Luck purely because he's black, "cool" and promotes the CM agenda. I'm somewhat relieved to learn I'm wrong.

Luck simply chose not to pursue them: "I really didn't have much time," Luck said. "And I wanted to make sure I had time to handle the stuff that mattered, whether it was moving into an apartment, finishing school or learning the playbook. There was so much going on, I figured the less time I spent promoting myself or doing ads, the better for me."

I really like this kid. He's really got the smarts and mental fortitude to take his top physical tools to an elite level. I'd be shocked if he's not a top 5 QB within the next 4-5 seasons.

Yeah, I regularly notice the slobbering, worshipful coverage of the exploits of "RG3" and the midget Russell Wilson. I watched most of the Giants-Redskins game, and didn't find Griffin to be all that dazzling. Instead, I watched the excellent movement and schemes of the Redskins offense, and lamented the fact that Tim Tebow has never been allowed to use his college offense, and would be unstoppable with it.

Great article over on bleacher report comparing Luck, RG III and Wilson. Some interesting statistics that are very favorable towards Luck. The writer makes the same assertion that I did a week ago in the NFL week 12 thread, that RG III is playing for his completion percentage and QB rating. I'll be shocked if Luck doesn't have a much better career than Griffin. Black QBs are often like black athletes in general -- capable of moments and periods of great play, but rarely consistent and they often fade early. Warren Moon is the only black QB I can think of who continued to play well past his early 30s. Culpepper, McNair, McNabb, Cunningham, all pretty much washed up by their early 30s if not earlier, while great White QBs usually age like a fine wine into their late 30s.

Luck looks destined to be an all-time great, another topnotch White QB in a league built around quarterbacks that has been trying desperately to change the demographics of the position for the past 15 years. For most of that time those attempts have been mostly of the "lol" variety far more than they've been successful.

I'm still not sold on this gremlin Griffin. He's having a good season but I doubt he get' any better. He'll end up somewhere between Convick and McNabb.

Luck is the real deal and should end up with a HOF career. Remember that Peyton Manning didn't have a great rookie season. He had a 71.2 qb rating his first year and threw 28 picks and 26 touchdowns. He improved tremendously the following season and the rest is history. I hope that's the story with Luck.

Andrew Luck's touchdown run in Sunday's win over the 49ers came on a naked bootleg.

Luck's athleticism is highly underrated. He ran a 4.67 at the 2012 Combine along with plus marks in the vertical leap and broad jump. As a rookie, he rushed for 255 yards and five touchdowns. This year, he's on pace to rush for 533 yards and 10 scores. Luck is on his way to a monster fantasy season.

Luck could be a guy who rushes for 800-1000 yards if he would just stop being a team player and start behaving like a real athlete. Instead of taking the 10-20 yards on the ground he tries to make plays down field to win the game. Doesn't he know that he can make up for those missing passing yards in the 4th against the prevent on check downs when his team is down by 3 scores? Not to mention he wouldn't risk throwing picks and would get his completion % even higher.

One thing's for sure, Andrew Luck is an elite NFL quarterback and will be for years to come.

There are more promising white quarterbacks developing in the NFL such as Tannehill, Foles and Glennon.

Try as they might the anti-whites aren't going to succeed in eliminating the white QB from the NFL.

Great point FD. As Don has mentioned many times, just look at all the incredible white qb's right now. Rivers, Rodgers Luck, Manning, Brees, and countless others. These guys are putting up incredible numbers and now all of a sudden we are supposed to believe the white talent pool has shrunk drastically for qb position. Where have these guys gone? Are whites incapable of playing the qb position now?

I just looked at Scouts.com. Of their top 40 HS QBs for the class of 2014, 25 are white, which is 62.5% That's significantly better than half; almost two-thirds. So not as good as it was 20 years ago, but not as bad as some people on here are making it out to be.

A couple of the black quarterbacks were also signed in classes that contained white QBs as well. 34/40 in 2012 were white and only 3 of the 6 black quarterbacks remain playing that position at a university. There really aren't as many as they make it out to seem, it's just the ones that are there are disproportionately hyped (even at the HS ranks; like 5/8 of the Army All-American QBs being black a while back..)

The black (or white) kid playing Qb in HS is often just the best athlete on the team and the most football savvy. They often end up at another position.

It's a real shame the way Andrew Luck's career has been derailed, possibly permanently, by his shoulder injury. Not saying the two are definitely related, but he took a ridiculous beating due to the Colts having linemen that couldn't protect him. The same thing has happened on a lesser scale to Big Ben -- though the Steelers finally have had a good o-line the past few seasons, Ben was continuously battered for much of his career and has looked in decline so far this year. Luck and Big Ben and many other quarterbacks are too tough and too team oriented not to take the punishment.

Luck was a superstar early on, but now is going to miss an entire season with no end in sight yet.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Andrew Luck's surgically-repaired shoulder "stopped getting better" about a week and a half ago. Per RapSheet, that's when Luck started seeking second opinions, visiting "4-5" doctors. Their recommendation was to stop throwing for "several months" in an effort to stamp out the soreness. It's concerning news, as it means Luck is still without a concrete timeline 10 months after going under the knife. Speaking Thursday, GM Chris Ballard insisted the issue was not career-ending, but rather ominously added the team was "doing everything we can to have a chance to have a long-term career." It's hard to believe Luck won't be ready for 2018, but knowing what we know right now, it should not be taken for granted.
