You are right Carolina - Mac got 100 rbi 7 times, not 5. I was a huge fan of his but to be honest i consider him to be a cheater now after the roid scandal.

knightedsoldier5000, I enjoy your baseball posts. I'm going to move my opinion of McGwire and roids to the MM thread.

Dunn hits career HR #400 tonight! The race to #500 is on! He's only 32 years old, so he had plenty of time to do it.

He goes 2-3 with a HR, a Dbl, and a BB !

HR: A Dunn (35)

I hope he can get his average up to a respectable level of .250 or so by the end of the season.

AD has also eclipsed the 1,000 RBI mark (1,005), got his 1,400 hit, has 297 doubles, and is closing in on on 1,000 runs (972). Very productive for a guy with a low BA.

I too hope he can become a more consistent hitter! If he does, he will have some huge numbers when he retires!

Dunn got injured the last month of the season and missed 3-4 weeks. This likely cost him the HR titl87 e, and allowed the Hispanic Cabrera to "win" the triple crown.

Dunn laid an egg down the stretch after coming back from the injury.

On the bright side, he had a solid comeback year, hitting:

41 HRs, 96 RBI, a ML leading 105 Walks, 87 Runs

His .204 BA is terribly pathetic, but he still produced and got on base.

For comparison as to how amazing Adam's walk total is, lets compare to a couple of other Chicago "stars".

Hispanic Negro Alfonso Soriano hit a much more respectable .262, but his OBP was .322.

******* SS Starlin Castro led the league in ABs the past 2 years, and is highly praised in the press for his batting ability and is generally regarded as an up and coming "star". Thanks to leading the league in ABs, he's managed around 200 hits the past couple years, but let's take a closer look. He hit .283 but has only a .323 OBP.

To recap -

Soriano OBP - .322
Castro OBP - .323

Adam Dunn's OBP this year was .333

People like to dismiss this white man's tremendous accomplishments because of his low BA, but the facts show that he's getting on base as much as all stars and leadoff hitters. Never mind the fact that he gets on base AND hits 40+ HRs / year. Putting him in front of Paul Konerko in the lineup gives Paul plenty of RBI opportunities.

Comparing Adam to Dave Kingman is meant as an insult to Dunn, but you can bet that if he were black, the media would be worshipping him non-stop. (For the record, Kingman's lifetime OBP was .302, Dunn's is .370 so any comparison is ridiculous on its face.)

Certainly, Dunn would be an even greater player if he could get his average back up, but his accomplishments remain great, and I for one can't wait to see how many homeruns he winds up with 5 years or so down the road. Barring injury, he will be in the top 10 all time.

Dunn goes 3 for 4 today with 2 HR's and 5 RBI's, giving him 9 HR's this year and 415 career HR's.

Let's hope he's starting to heat up. His .156 BA is painful!

Adam Dunn frustrates the hell out of me. I wish he could become a more consistent hitter like he was with the Nationals. Glad he clubbed 2 HRs today.

Dunn another HR tonight. (11) on the year. 1 -2 with 3RBI's so far. BA up to .174. Has raised his avg. about 20 points over the last 5 days. Maybe I should check on him every night and he'll stay hot!

A.D. another HR (24) tonight. Number 430 for his career. Yes, his BA. is awful at .207, but he has raised it 51 points since May 15th.(BA. 156). Lets hope he continues to hit more consistently the rest of the year. He has averaged almost 32 HR's/year. At that pace, he could possibly approach 700 HR's if he could stay healthy another 7-8 years when he would become 41 years old!

Adam Dunn reminds me alot of Jim Thome and I can see him having the longevity to get to at least 600 homeruns. The biggest key is as you say for him to get his batting average up and to maintain it at around 250 minimum. That will keep him playing fulltime an hopefully assure that teams will still want him as he gets older. He is as good a power hitter as there is in all of baseball when you look at what he does year after year. It's amazing to stay that consistant against really good pitchers that know your trying to hit the ball out of the park. Keep up the great hitting & slugging Adam!

Dunn HR #25 today. I never thought I would say this, but I think I would rather have A.D. in the lineup rather than Josh Hamilton, 0-5 and 7 LOB today!

I really hope J.H. will get it together. He's a tremendous talent.

Adam Dunn, not having a good year, but has hit his 13th HR. He has 453 for his career and has passed Carl Yastrzemski for 35th all time.

Dunn has averaged almost 34 HR's/year for his career, may not hit 25 this season. Next up for Dunn to pass is Jose Canseco, 462 career HR's!

35. Adam Dunn 453
41. Jason Giambi 440
42. Paul Kornerko 439
83. Mark Teixeira 358

The only active white players in the top 100.

985. Mike Trout 83!:D

I'm glad Dunn gets to play for a competitor:

http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/stor...nn-traded-oakland-athletics-chicago-white-sox

CHICAGO -- Adam Dunn's first opportunity at a playoff appearance will also be his swan song as the slugger announced Sunday he plans to retire at the conclusion of the season on the same day the Oakland Athletics acquired him in a trade with the White Sox.

"This is probably going to be it," said Dunn, who doesn't think he can be talked out of his retirement plan. "I've been playing a long time and haven't got this opportunity, so I'm going to try to make the most of it."
After hitting one out of the park on Saturday off Max Scherzer, Dunn has hit 20 homers in 12 of the last 13 seasons. Since 2000, only David Ortiz and Albert Pujols have more.

I wish Dunn would play until he was 40 - he could get to 600 HRs. Both him and Thome are two of the modern era guys I have no doubt were clean and hit all those HRs based on natural talent.

Dunn's problem is he either strikes out or hits a home run. His batting average is around .220, he is like a white Ryan Howard.

The A's announcers were saying Dunn is going to retire at the end of the year. As an A's fan, I wouldn't mind him sticking around for a little longer than that. I also I hope the A's win the wild card one game play in so Dunn will have his first taste of postseason baseball.

He is leaving a lot on the plate so to speak. I thought he was closer to 40 then 30. He easily could reach 550 and has an outside shot at 600. I think only home run totals of 550+ would get in him in the hall as his batting average is the Dave Kingman territory. I think either Reggie Jackson or Harmon Killebrew have the lowest lifetime average of any slugger to make the hall of fame and both were about .260ish lifetime. Also if Dunn were to retire and stay retired his lifetime numbers are a mirror of Dave Kingman's totals.....

I'm not completely buying in to the Dave Kingman comparison.

Dunn has walked over twice as much as Kingman: 1311 to 608, more hits than Kingman: 1619 to 1575, a lot more Doubles: 333 to 240, Runs: 1092 to 901, more TB: 3355 to 3191, and has played two less seasons. But the biggest difference is Dunn's OBP, which is 63 points higher than Kingman's .365 to .302.

Yes there are similarities to Kingman, but I think Dunn doesn't get enough credit for having a good eye at the plate as indicated by his over 1300 walks.

Only seven players have it 40 or more HR's in a season more times than Dunn. Ruth (11), A. Rodriquez (8), Bonds (8), Killebrew (8), Aaron (8), Sammy Sosa (8), Griffey Jr. (7). Dunn did it 6 times!

......another note: Dunn tied David Ortiz for 35th all time HR's with his 461st HR yesterday, despite playing in 4 less seasons than Ortiz.

I hope he reconsiders retirement, but I will understand. He has stated he wants to spend more time with his children. Nice to know he has his priorities in order.

Dunn another HR yesterday for Oakland. Number 22 on the year and 462 of his career for 34th all time moving ahead of Ortiz.
