I'm not completely buying in to the Dave Kingman comparison.
Dunn has walked over twice as much as Kingman: 1311 to 608, more hits than Kingman: 1619 to 1575, a lot more Doubles: 333 to 240, Runs: 1092 to 901, more TB: 3355 to 3191, and has played two less seasons. But the biggest difference is Dunn's OBP, which is 63 points higher than Kingman's .365 to .302.
Yes there are similarities to Kingman, but I think Dunn doesn't get enough credit for having a good eye at the plate as indicated by his over 1300 walks.
Only seven players have it 40 or more HR's in a season more times than Dunn. Ruth (11), A. Rodriquez (8), Bonds (8), Killebrew (8), Aaron (8), Sammy Sosa (8), Griffey Jr. (7). Dunn did it 6 times!
......another note: Dunn tied David Ortiz for 35th all time HR's with his 461st HR yesterday, despite playing in 4 less seasons than Ortiz.
I hope he reconsiders retirement, but I will understand. He has stated he wants to spend more time with his children. Nice to know he has his priorities in order.
