2024 Outdoor season

how's this one guys? I'm now in Tasmania at the Australian Masters T&F championships. Yesterday Mandy Mason (56) won her 100 metre final in 12.26 (-1.0), age-graded 99.63%, BEATING the winning men's 55-59 (admittedly a bit weak this year) time of 12.75. Here's me thinking all sorts of possibilities ........
That performance translates to a 10.69 (-1.0) open age performance as she beat former 55 years WR holder Julie Brims (58) by .70 second into 2nd place.
There is much quite speculation going around ..... I'll look at her very closely today

Is this the same Mandy Mason that was a former marathon runner?

Can you explain what 'age graded' means, and how that works/calculated?

Can you explain what 'age graded' means, and how that works/calculated?
It's merely a manner of comparing the quality of running time, adjusting for age, sex, and race distance.

Thus, a formula accounting for the age and the sex of the runner to produce a percentage value. Then utilizing that value to compare performances between males and females and various ages for comparison purposes. It can also be utilized to measure your own running standard.

So what does 100% mean?
simply put, taking into account age and age related decline (studied over time from thousands of competing athletes i guess) times and distances masters athletes achieve are multiplied by an age dependant factor to compare it to the open age world record in the event.
It can't ever be an exact science of course

Audrey Leduc of Canada, just lowered her PB to 11.08 in Florida.
Great time, and another women's sprinter to keep an eye on.

Leduc is a very very fast 60/100m sprinter out of Canada. Hoping she goes under 11 this outdoor season. She is 25 years old, Her 11.08 had a wind of .03

she has what I tell my trackie kids "springs" in her legs.....translation: high knee lift and balls the of her feet don't touch the ground for long on her strides whilst her feet are straight.......

Kalen Walker is someone who I have enjoyed watching. He is very dynamic off the blocks.
It will be interesting to watch how he develops and if flirts with a sub 10.

Matthew Boling is running the 100 today at the Gamecock Invitational and Tyler Azcano will be contesting the same distance at the Crimson Tide meet.

Hopefully, he'll do better in the 200 this early afternoon with a little better weather. Looks like the temp is still in the 50s there with a potential
high of 65.

Abby Steiner won the 400 in 51.58 at the Gamecock Invitational. All of the times today look relatively slow.

Boling wins 100 in 10.20 at Gamecock Invite!! I'm excited to see him contesting in the 100 again :)

Woohoooooooooooooo! Finally the man runs a 100 meters. I'm shocked but very relieved. If he could get back to running both
the 100 and 200 meters with his coach changing his training slightly he can get back to running very fast times. This is a great time
for the fact that he has run nothing but 400 meters races for what seems like forever now! I'm pumped!

Boling easily wins his 200 heat at Gamecock Invite in 20.31 slight positive wind

It would have been cool if Abby Steiner would have run the 200 instead of the 400, but seeing her get a win is cool

Tyler Azcano 4th in his heat at 10.72. All slow times at the Crimson Tide Invitational.
