Dodgers need to wrap it up tonight, the Yankees are just begging to lose it now and the Dodgers aren't putting the dagger in them

Dodgers win the World Series! Best possible outcome. Black Jack chokes and is bounced out early, then the dark Yanquis choke away a 5-0 lead.

Freeman should be Series MVP.

I know there aren’t any Yankees fans here, but I’ll highlight a few of their standout players from game 4. Catcher Austin Wells finally broke out of a playoff long slump with a double off the top of the wall and a homer later. Anthony Volpe, who’s half Italian and half Filipino, was the other star. Grand slam, a double and a couple of steals. I know he’s not a full fledged White man but he’s from a good family and has displayed excellent character throughout his brief career. I root for him but understand why others would not.
I have no issue rooting for non-whites if their political views align with mine. I happily rooted for Manny Pacquiao because I like his anti-homo views.

Congrats to Freeman on earning MVP. Rarely is an MVP winner on a team so clear and obvious.

This. BLM Black Jack Flaherty only lasted 1 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs. Would be nice if this POS is traded to the White Sox or some other rotten team to flail away in obscurity for the remainder of his career. Super happy that Freeman won MVP and that the majority white Dodgers win their first full-season World Series since 1988. I can't believe it's been that long, I'm really feeling old now.

Lol, I was wondering what all the hate was about for this non-descript guido with an Irish name. Turns out he is a "bi-racial" bastard who was adopted and raised by Irish Catholics. Of course, he identifies as black and got loud for the BLM riots. And of course, he's dating a blonde Swedish girl! But don't blame him for that... her previous boyfriend was Dak Prescott!!!

after my Phillies choked in the first round, the Dodgers were the next best team. Glad they won, and that Freeman, not ohtani, won the mvp. Great result all around

anybody collect baseball cards on here? I used to collect a lot in the 80s and 90s and recently got back into it with my kids. Prices have really gone up!!!! But, i still really enjoy opening packs of cards and collecting with my kids.
This is a thread on collecting and sports memorabilia in general.

As you stated collecting really isn't for kids beyond upper middle class kids. I'm a bit older than you but I remember I used to go and collect pop bottles and beer bottles(more pop) and bought packs with the returned bottles. This isn't possible anymore unless you bought one pack after collecting a ton of empties, so I suspect only teenagers break into the hobby with their own money from part time jobs.

If you want to buy old stuff from the junk wax era the packs and boxes don't cost much and are fun to rip(open) but don't expect to get rich off them.

The reason why older stuff is valuable is because most were tossed out or manhandled by young collectors who didn't envision card X being worth hundreds to thousands in pristine shape. https://castefootball.us/threads/sports-memorabilia.36234/#post-749919

I don't anymore but me and my brothers collected baseball cards from the late 80s to mid 90s ourselves. It was a fun time and was still an affordable hobby at the time. Pretty sure there are still shoeboxes full of cards at my parents house from my childhood.

Like most collectibles what counts is condition and rarity. 1970s baseball and football cards have some value, especially those from early in the decade. A lot of the '80s stuff is more common, and by the late '80s and into the '90s the card companies were cranking out yearly product literally by the billions of cards. Other than some rookie cards that might have nominal value the cards from that era will remain worthless into perpetuity. They're better off used as kindling for fireplaces.

To find a rough value of what you have and what it might be worth, check a print magazine like Becketts, which is also online. Guides give the retail value, the wholesale value is half of that and often considerably less in reality as dealers are well-versed in saying how the market's gone weak, etc., and making lousy offers. EBay can also give an idea but the prices asked for similar cards can differ wildly.

If you catalog what you have, you can contact some dealers to see if they're interested. Some will travel to you if they think it's worth their while. Or go to a large card show. Many brick and mortar stores have closed but there are still many cards shows, both large and small. Probably every major city in North Carolina has them periodically, and in Tennessee too since you're in western NC. It all depends on how far you might want to travel.

Thanks Don. I've found a couple of places in Charlotte that may purchase them. One said they would be willing to meet me and make an offer for the entire collection, but I'm thinking it would be pennies on the dollar. Plus, if I wanted to get more money for individual cards, I could have them sent off to be graded by an expert and of course that costs money. I keep holding out thinking some of my so-called more valuable 70's baseball and football cards could bring more money one day like the 20's-60's cards. Probably will never happen because of the mass printing that occurred beginning in the 70's and continued to grow throughout the 80's and beyond.

If you are going to sell your cards it's best to sell to a fellow collector. I would put in the ad no dealers please because dealers except for rare exceptional cards only pay pennies on the dollar. A collector could give you 50 percent and think it's a good deal for a dealer only a valuable hard to find card would he ever do that.

Years ago I didn't put that clause in an ad and I got the typical slimy deal and he only wanted to buy my entire collection at the lowest grade and at depressed prices and since I only wanted 50 percent the price was only a few hundred and I easily passed on offer. If it was a collector the offer would have probably been double his offer.

Thanks for the advice white is right. Ironically, during Sunday school class at church this past weekend my teacher said he was an avid collector. He just finished putting his 1965 (Topps Baseball) complete collection together. I will ask him if he's interested or knows someone else that might be.
