Thought it would be worth starting a 2023 thread for the 49ers they are not a great team in terms of depth but have some elite world class players at key positions.

Quarterback - Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen
Running Back - Christian McCaffery
Full Back - Kyle Juszczyk
Tight End - George Kittle, Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley
Offensive Tackle - Colton McKivitz and Nick Zakelj
Offensive Guard - Joe Feliciano
Centre - Jake Brendel

Defensive End - Nick Bosa

Kicker - Jake Moody
Punter - Mitch Wishnowsky
Long Snapper - Taybor Pepper

Totals

Starters (without specialists) 7
Roster totals 16

This is Brock Purdys team after winning his first seven starts including two in the playoffs in relief of Trey Lance and Jimmy Garropolo who have both now departed to the Cowboys and the Raiders.

The league needs to pay attention and take note of the gems available late in the draft, no need for boom and bust developmental projects when you have the real thing in the seventh round!

Christian McCaffrey stars as the teams do it all feature back and I would say best back in the whole league after his trade from the Panthers.

Last season for example he had 244 carries for 1139 yards and 8 TDs on 4.7 average per carry and add the 85 receptions for 741 yards with another 5 TD.

Fighting in the trenches and out the backfield with McCaffrey is the best full back in the league Kyle Juszczyk.

No wide outs but they do have the second best tight end in the league IMO with Kittle who had 11 touchdowns on 86 targets with 60 receptions and 765 yards.

Two and three on the tight end chart are also white in Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley.

Two starters on the o line including Connor McKivitz who replaced Mike McGlinchey at right tackle.

Must not forget Nick Bosa who got his deserved extension 5 years 170 million! He is an elite top 5 defensive end and will be crucial to them on that side of the ball. He led the whole league with 18.5 sacks in 2022.

John Lynch not interested in Honkeys unless they are World Caliber stars like Bosa. This is where having the slightest amount of nepotism would do wonders. Meanwhile you have Slime Time still crying racism with his 75 percent Black Team. Shame on Lynch.

He also lucked in to Purdy and Darnold, after blowing the Lance pick. Lucky mofo.

I’ll be rooting for the 49ers in the NFC. Is there a better choice?

The Rams maybe, see if Kupp injury is a problem but they are maybe the next best thing or the Lions. I agree though with Purdy CMac Kittle Juszczyk Bosa probably the team to root

The Lions and Rams are worth rooting for also, though I suspect the Rams are going to stink again, especially if it's another lost season for Kupp.

I'm obviously in the minority when it comes to John Lynch. I liked him as an announcer, thought he was fair, not perfect but fair enough. As GM the 49ers have had teams with seven White starters on offense at times. They had Trent Taylor for a few years but he could never stay healthy. They admitted their mistake with Lance by getting rid of him. A lot, probably most, teams would have stuck with Lance for years trying to develop his "upside." As mentioned the White players the 49ers have tend to be topnotch, so I have a fairly high opinion of Lynch given the constraints of the Caste System.

There are some positives..but it irks me only seeing 1 White Defender on the roster and he’s Top 5 in The League.. Is what it is though!

Lynch has been an abject disappointment to me. As a HOF safety who is a white man you would think he would be as aware of anyone how many deserving white men get cut in favor of less deserving blacks.

Agreed, he cannot stay healthy. He has been pretty decent so far this year and if he helps free up Bosa at all then great.

But he isn’t going to all of a sudden make the defense good again. In my opinion, there needs to be more white defenders that hold all the players accountable and provide the leadership the new D-Coordinator Wilks clearly fails to provide.

I’m sure we all recall the hype around Young. He was advertised as better than both the Bosa brothers and compared favorably to Clowney. He was supposed to be a “generational” talent and tally double digit sacks every season.

He has been a huge bust when compared to the build up and hype around him. Like everything else in society people have short memories and are more than happy to not learn from mistakes and repeat them over again.

I definitely wouldn’t pay Chase Young. But the 49ers have nothing to lose to have him for 10 games while he’s playing for his next contract.

And remember when Clowny was supposed to the “generational” talent - better than JJ Watt?

Turns out Clowny, while good against the run, was far from a premiere talent and subsequently, nothing more than a decent player.

They hype these blacks get is unreal.

Yup. Clowney really could have been all of that. His problems were laziness and injuries, both of which are doubtless related. Few players, aside from DonkeyKong Suh, took/takes more plays off than Clowney.

So it is looking like Christian McCaffrey will retain the rushing lead even after their bye week. He remains (slightly ahead) of a few running backs with low 600s. I am predicting the 49ers explode on offense against the Jaguars this next Sunday. Their week off will allow for healing (McCaffrey, Samuel, Williams and others) and also afford Coach Shanahan to really take a look at what is working and not working on offense.

Nice! This bodes well for his chances to win the rushing title. Hopefully he can start racking up some more 100 yards games.

I think one of Cmacs biggest threats to overtake him is Zack Moss of the Vikings. With Cousins now hurt, the defenses probably won't
expect the pass so much as Kirk Cousins was tearing it up. This will allow defenses to stack the box and make it tougher for Moss to shine.

You must be thinking of someone else. Moss is on the Colts and is the backup now that Taylor is back. He's no threat, unless Taylor is hurt or something. I can see someone like Derrick Henry being the main obstacle. He's talented and gets lots of carries on a run heavy team.

Nice article that praises CMC from ESPN. He is the rare white skill player the media seems to love. He is the best all-around back since LT and Marshall Faulk and deserves to sit squarely beside them when discussing the best all-purpose running back of all time.

No TD for CMAC today, but a nice 95 yards rushing and 47 yards receiving.

So good to see the 49ers winning again. The media wanted them to fail. Sports Illustrated had an article just yesterday about how Purdy is holding the team back!!!

So good to see him show well today. Also good for Juz to get a TD

Agreed. Purdy certainly has some things he needs to clean up and work on but he's one of the most fun players to watch in the league. Nice bounce back game by Purdy.

The announcers were even saying how Purdy is very elusive and a hard qb to sack. He finds a way to buy time and he can run too. The
Niners with Purdy, Cmac, Kittle and Bosa are so much fun to watch. I really hoping they can make a super bowl run!

Well, DC Wilks already fired. Not surprised, despite how great the defense played for 3 quarters in the Super Bowl, they underachieved for the year.

Hopefully Shanahan makes a good decision on bringing someone in for the next season.
