2022 World Indoor Season

Today in Birmingham we saw an exciting mens 60 meters finals. Three english sprinters were in the finals.

Despite none of them winning they all improved their seasons best times.

22 year old Charlie Dobson ran 6.59! It's not often you see a red headed sprinter and he is very talented.
Ageless wonder Andrew Robertson also ran 6.59 for a new seasons best. I've always said if this guy would have had the right
sponsors a decade ago he could have been even better. In his 30's and aging like a fine wine.
Adam Thomas ran 6.61 for a new seasons best. England has always had alot of white sprinters and it's good to see!

Yep..Dobson has the potential to be very special ..a complete sprinter between 60 and 200 m...another athlete from the north of England and thankfully well away from London centric athletics politics ....another athlete Tom summers who ran 20.38 as a junior was destroyed by a move down south and persuaded to run the run the 400 ....thankfully Amy hunt is being well guided ....and yes Andrew Robertson still has it ...interesting how today 2 American sprinters had their backs up against him ..baker showed a lack of class ...but Robertson knows he has the measure of them in a pressured situation ......
 
And yes Adam Thomas ..I feel has some real ability ...confidence is the key .....still a little shaky pre race ....whereas Dobson’s nerves are positive ....another red head sprinter was German Martin Keller who ran a windy 9.9 in the states a couple of yrs ago ...unfortunately for him he came from the east of Germany and had to fight for anything he received from the German athletics federation ....which still looks towards the old west of Germany to promote athletics ...so it shows how disjointed some European federations still are due to old politics ..which has once again shown it’s ugly head ..
 
The really big news from this meet was that 19yr old Keely Hodgkinson ran a stunning 1:57.21 800m!
Not only a British Record, but the fastest time run indoors by a woman in 19 years!!! Astounding!
And she looked very comfortable doing it (see video).
The previous record was set on the day Keely was born, 19 yrs ago. (wow!)

Another very notable performance was Ed Faulds, setting a British and European junior record (under 20yrs of age) in the 400m.
His time was 46.16.

Regarding the 60m races in Birmingham....

The big news here is that Amy Hunt pulled up in the race.
She's battled hamstring injuries for 2 yrs....I hope it's not something that will ruin her career.

As for Charles Dobson, he reminds me a bit of Matthew Boling.
He is 22, Boling 21.
Like Boling, Dobson had primarily been a longer sprinter, and recently moved down to the shorter sprints.
He is very capable at all the sprints, just like Boling. His PBs are 10.12w, 20.53, and 45.51.
His start in the short sprints needs a lot of work, like Boling, but he has good top end speed.
Boling has more potential, but Dobson is full of talent as well.
It will be good to see these two progress in the coming years.
 
To mastermulti or anyone down under in Australia? Was wondering why Jack Hale didn't race today? He was listed to and I guess he changed his mind. He has only
1 race this year where he ran 10.26 last week. Was really hoping to see him continue to improve. Hale needs to race more in order to fulfill his potential.
 
WL Hale doesn't need to race more, he needs to find out why he has digressed in the past few years...technique, training regimen, coaching, diet, lifestyle what have you, he might need a sports Physiatrist who knows but in order for him to become competitive on a world stage (he has the ability) he needs to figure it out and make the necessary changes. I have noticed since he became heavier and more muscular his times have gone backwards for the most part. My 2cents worth.
 
Ewa Swoboda won the 60m in Dusseldorf today, with a time of 7.10.
She also ran 7.12 in the heats.
 
In Poland today:

Adrian Brzesinski of Poland, 6.57 in the 60 meters
Femke Bol with a World Leading time of 50.64 in the 400m
Damian Czykier of Poland with a National record of 7.48 in the 60m Hurdles
 
That time by 23 year old Polish Sprinter Adrian Brzesinski is world class! He has never really done much in the 100. He also runs the 200 and does some long jumping.
Maybe this will help him to refocus on the short sprints. He has time and Polands needs more young & rising sprinters for both the men and the women. Good to see!

He's gone from 6.71 to 6.57 in a season. He's 23 so it will be good to see how much his 100 has improved in the coming outdoor season
He ran 10.46 in the outdoor 2019 season (at 20) after a 6.88/60m earlier that year.
On that basis I'd expect that 100 time could take a pounding this coming season.
I'll predict sub 10.20 if he stays healthy?

Yes Poland is improving alot in the mens and womens sprints. Having a world class star like Swoboda helps to inspire more men & women to do the same thing!

21 year Old Polish Sprinter Pia SKRZYSZOWSKA ran a blazing 7.14 today for a new personal best!

Czykier's time puts him at #4 on the world list in the 60m hurdles.
Trey Cunningham is #2 and Devon Allen is #5.
Not bad!
 
I wonder if having aggressive, bullying neighbours over the years isn't an influence on how tough the Polish spirit seems to be.
Sure, they are a European democracy but they're not "soft west" as I consider many of us have become.
They have wonderful athletes and there seems to be more emerging all the time.
That girl who was 3rd in the 60m already ran a 7.22 PB in the heat then knocked another 0.08 from that in the final.

On another note, I wonder if we'll ever see an ultra competitive Dafne Schippers again. I think perhaps not
 
All you have to do is compare Poland to Germany, and you can see how strong that Polish spirit is on the track.
Poland is better in almost every single event on both the men's and women's sides....and Germany is a bigger country.
 
Meanwhile, Dafne is still training as if she expects to be competitive.....

Great run!! And no disgusting tattoos!! Zero. I'll pull for her any race. She's beautiful.
 
And here's another World Leading run, this time in the 400m by Femke Bol.
She makes it look easy in defeating Poland's top 2 girls, and her training partner Leike Klaver.
