Just given Germany's huge population - 81 million - compared to the other European countries, Germany should be able to produce a men's track medal at nearly every European Championships.
I don't know what the issue is, but just by default population size, they should be able to do much, much better.
At the 2018 European Championships
Norway - 6 million population - and they won 4 men's medals.
Sweden - 10 million, 1 medal
Belgium - 17 million, 2 medals
Germany 81 million, 0 medals

Very excited to see him run tommorow. Rohan Browning hasn't raced since April 11, 2019 so it's hard to say what to expect? Will nerves and lack of competition get to him? I believe it's also his first
time racing in Europe. His coach did this on purpose though to try and make him alot stronger for the World Champs. It's a big gamble but I really hope it pays off. He is racing against a stacked field
and would probably have to go sub 10 just to win. Regardless of the result I hope they can get him 1 or 2 more races before the world champs. At least one more to shake off the rust!

Here is Swoboda running a new personal best. Happy to see her looking good in Berlin. Luekenkemper was dead lost out of the blocks and did very well to come back for 4th. If the
wouldn't have fallen asleep in the starting blocks she might just have won this race.

agreed terrible start, the Chinese girl was also coming up fast in lane 8 and nipped Lukenkemper for third. Swoboda is far too tatted up and looks dykish now but sh is fast!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Rohan Browning ran a high school time. He finished in 6th running a very average 10.42! Sad but with not racing in almost a half year I'm not suprised.

I sort of expected that - I'm not too disappointed. Apart from Rogers the times were very moderate.
I think this next month in Europe will transform him from "hard work" mode to race fit. A few more races will tell.
I see Gatlin was pulling up, perhaps injured. Is father time catching up with him?
Zagreb ...yes browning definitely has a future as sprinter ...no doubt ...saw the race .. The young man ran solidly .."...........cisse and arytee came behind him , 2 seasoned vets based in Europe .....Gatlin definitely has an injury ........pity browning didn't get the decision made for him to come Europe 2/3 weeks earlier ...for me ...glad to see him in Europe ...looks like he will compete in Doha ....

I also saw the raced and thought he was ran poorly, you could tell he was nervous and rusty. He popped up out of the blocks and was all over his lane during his drive phase. Once he got straightened out he did well. He will iron those things out with a few more races..he has a great physique for a sprinter.
Ramil Guliyev looked very good today in Brussels.
Ran a season's best of 19.86 to finish 2nd, and within striking distance of Noah Lyles (19.74). Wind was only 0.8.
Glad to see that he is finally rounding into top form.
Meanwhile Dafne Schippers, was well beaten in the 100m. Fourth place in 11.22.
She is a full level down from the top sprinter she was in 2015.
I am very disappointed that she hasn't been able to regain her top level form over the past few seasons.

You could argue all of the large countries in Western Europe under perform, what has Italy done in recent years at the world or European level? Aside from Tortu I don't recall any blue chip prospects coming out of that country. This is a country that has historically had contenders to medalists in the sprints to the marathon. Aside from distance walking and the marathon I don't recall any medalists.
Things are so bad in Italy that full blooded Africans represent Italy in large numbers in the sprints out of a population of probably less than a million.
Italy hasn't been great, but no country has under performed as much as Germany on the men's side.
Right now Italy has Tortu in the top 10 in 100m and 200m, and David Re is the fastest European this year in the 400m. Matteo Galvan is #8.

shock me to see Guliyev upset the kid and win the gold medal. Guliyev has this warriors mentality which Lemaitre has always lacked. He has no fear and trains
like a mad man. His consitancy over the last 6 to 8 years is pretty amazing if you ask me. He does not get the recognition he deserves despite being the defending
200 meter world champion. Mark my words guys. I see Guliyev repeating in a huge upset to again be crowned world champ over 200 meters!

as well as physical talent, his mental strength must be immense. That was Sally Pearson's situation too - very hard working to make the most of their prodigious talents and with the mental attitude to carry it through. Very rare!

When Jacob Ingebritsen gets more race smart/savy he is going to dominate the 1500m. Today he left it way too late, maybe going with his brother for too long, then was closing like a freight train in the last 100m. He is an exceptional talent, especially at ripe old age of 18. The American(mullet) ran a PB of 3:34 in a big step up in class. Well done! On a drooling note, Alisha Newman and Sage Watson of Canada are drop dead gorgeous. Glad to see mudshark Sandi Morris choke so badly....

For about 7 years now I have been counting the number of 10.19 and sub that of times in the men's 100 meters of non-western African sprinters. Last year it topped out at 24. We now have 30. It seems like China and Japan have seen the most improvement in the amount of almost world class sprinters they are producing. They should be a silver contender in the men's 4x100 and I hope they use just their native team this year that ran a country record of 37.73.

Alot of white sprinters could learn alot from watching Ramil Guliyev go out race after race and dominate the majority of them. The guy is as fearless as they come on and off the
track. It reminds me of the movie "300" which is epic by the way. Our guys need to be me more confident in their abilities. You have to be an alpha male on and off the track. Ramil
Guliyev is just so much fun to watch. It will be sad someday when he hangs up his spikes. He is one of if not the greatest white sprinter we have ever seen.

considering the quality of sprinters he has to face year in/year out and the hardships from 2011 to 2015 or so I may just put Guliyev as my number 1 now, especially if he can do well again in Doha

I am glad Europe won but it was against USA's 4th stringers mainly, still it is 1-0 Europe.
