Karsten Warholm of Norway had decided to enter both the 400 meter hurdles and 400 meters at the 2019 World Championships of Track & Field. Hard to imagine him having any energy to be effective
over the 400 meters as the event starts only 1 day after the 400 meter hurdles finals. No rest whatsoever. I love his confidence. My guess is he just want's to set a new p.b. over the 400 meters and maybe somehow make the final. That would be very difficult though as the event is as fast as it's ever been at any time in history and Warholm will be very tired. Still glad he is attempting it! Love this kid!

only hope may be to go very easily in the 400 heat if he can. Maybe a 46.5 would bide him so recovery time

Even then it's hard to say. At least he has youth on his side. I miss those days. Don't we all? Lol. :)

I would much rather see him break the world record and call it a day! World Records are rarely broken and the 400 meter hurdles has stood for decades. Time for Karsten Warholm to
etch his name in stone for the whole world to take notice this Viking Warrior from the great country of Norway!

Love his ambition, but think he is overreaching.

He should follow Guliev's example, pick your best event and hit it as hard as possible. In his case, a WR is possible. Pick up a 400 PB next season. I hope he proves me wrong.

He has a legitimate chance to be World Champion AND set a World Record. He shouldn't do anything to jeopardize that opportunity.
As long as he lets it all out in the 400m hurdles, I guess it's okay, since the 400m comes after the the 400m hurdles.
If he had to run any heats of the 400m before the 400m hurdles, then I would say 'don't do it'.

I have a suspicion if warholm wins the 400 meter hurdles he will shelve the 400 flat ........if he doesn't do as well as expected ( i.e. Between he and his coach ) he will race 400 flat ......the 400 flat is a backup to any 400 hurdle disappointments ......I think it's a clever move ....he has youth and conditioning and speed and strength on his side ......I also believe he has a 43 second quarter mile in him .....he has too if he is running 46s for hurdles .......

Does anyone here think because the Worlds are so late in the season at Doha that the times are going to suffer? I do. I don't expect any 100 meter men's sprinters to break 9.98 with or without wind. I could see a few Chinese and Jpanese sprinters and maybe even a caucasian sneaking into the final. I don't know if Bingtian Su is running for China but if he is I think he has got a legit shot at a medal.

Bingtian Su must have been injured this year. He missed most of the season, and has not been running well lately. I wouldn't expect too much from him.
Look for Guliyev and Gemili to do well in the 200m.

To mccaffrey dude......re times Doha.......there are a lot of variables ....one of those being the health of an athlete and his / her mindset going into major champs ....health good Possible management of injuries etc .....and been performing consistently ...then this bodes well .........others factors include the venue ....so Doha is ideal for the shorter stuff ..,,,times are dependent on competition ( usually ) ....i.e 8 world class 400 meter hurdles in a final after quality heats ....then ....one can talk about possible fast times .......and this includes lanes ...eg the 200 meters ...gentler bends etc .....a good indicator is what a coach is seeing in the run up to an event ....and how the athletes training is being managed including confidence .....only the athlete and their coach know really where they are at pre champs ......and heats are usually ( and I say usually ) a decent indicator of where an athlete is at ...and how comfortably they deal with opposition ...doing enough to enable good lane draw ,.,.,another factor include time between events especially if athletes are planning to double up ..eg possibly warholm ..,,maximum rest for maximum performance .....ie a consistent no frills build up including competition leading up to events ....I have suspicion tortu will make a final pending on semi final heats ......because his start were not great ...so he needed time ...and he is a real competitor ..so I feel quietly confident for him ....obviously guliyev is a major medal probability ....and I have a suspicion guliyev will push menneas mark when competing against lyles in a final ........and schippers will medal over 200 ...I reckon she and her coach have been slowly building towards Doha ...and she is a fierce competitor .....also Gemili will make a final over 200 .....and as always there will one good surprise or two ......Greek long jumper ,,,possibly .....and the 100 meter relays should be interesting .....as should the 400 meter relays ......

GG, I think Tortu will struggle to get out of the semis based on his recent form as well Schippers may make the final but I do not believe she is in good enough shape to medal. I hope I am wrong though. In the relays I believe the Chinese men and women will do quite well as I hope the Polish quartet in the ladies 4x400m will do well, possible medal.

Reflecting on the 2019 season gives me mixed feelings. The Boling story is off the charts. He could potentially threaten the 10.00 barrier as a college freshman. Karsten Warholm was incredibly inspirational with his will and fighting spirit. Given the right set of circumstances, and he is a world record holder.

The injuries to Tortu, Su and Erasmus were big disapointments as they were all on the verge of breakthroughs. It's like Tom Petty said, "the waiting is the hardest part."

Limitless, I agree with you on Warholm, I will also say his speed and hurdling technique are insane, he clears hurdles with speed, grace and power. His will to win should be bottled, trademarked and given to every white sprinter/athlete out there. Boling with the right coaching will be a superstar in the next few years. He will have to learn how to deal with losing a few races here and there, which can ph@@k up a persons confidence quickly. Lalova-Collio was a breath of fresh air on the womens side, posting a 11.06? this year is getting her closer to where she was pre leg injury. Why she was not contesting the women's 100m in Doha was beyond me.

I like Su and the other male and female Chinese sprinters but I also fear they are using PEDS, hope I am wrong. Duplantis is the future of mens pole vault but he is turning into a little punk with all the showboating and acting.....

We need to make sure to give equal credit to the beautiful women of track. This lady is the only high jumper in womens history to win 3 high jump gold medals. She is the best of all time!

Mariya Lasitskene became the first athlete in history to win three successive world high jump titles tonight, a feat not even achieved by world record-holders Stefka Kostadinova and Javier Sotomayor!

I was reading a little about Fillipo Tortu. I didn't realise that he has always had his eyes shut in the starting blocks. Something he has done since he was a kid. Well even though 2019 was an up and
down year for him with injuries, etc, he still made the World Championships 100 Meters Final. That puts him as 1 of the 8 fastest guys on earth. I see alot bigger things coming in the next 4 to 6 years
for this kid. He still looks like the local paper boy. He will be stronger and faster in 2020! I can't wait! :)

While I like to keep up with our white track stars, I must admit that I often click on this thread just to see our beautiful white lady athletes. Just a few from the link White Lightning posted, wow:
