With the sack yesterday, Clay Matthews has had at least 1 in each game. 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles is already much better than he had all of last year. He’ll need to keep it up, but at least for now, it seems he’s turned back the clock and is set to have his best season since 2014.
Thanks
Freethinker, did not know Clay was off to such a dominating start! Definitely padding his Hall of Fame resume. Heck, with that start, you'd think he deserves a $143 million contract?
It was an infuriating game to watch at the end. Hell, the Rams play these guys TWICE a year, every year. How does the defensive front not know what Wilson does? And don't get me started on the BS roughing call on Matthews. Flagged for defending while being white.
FD, I agree 100%. You know what really infuriates me? I've been rooting hard for the Rams (for obvious reasons). It would be nice if Aaron Donald the "
143 million dollar man" could make a great play, once-in-a-while, down the stretch to help close out a game? Looking at the stat line from last night, he didn't seem to fare much better than rookie
Greg Gaines.
Now I realize Donald probably faces constant double teams, but come on, make a game changing play from time-to-time! He had 31.5 sacks the last two seasons (averaged about 1 per game) and deserved the accolades he garnered. This season he has one sack in 5 starts. Rams need much more than that.
P.S: Starting linebacker
Bryce Hager sat due to a "stinger' last night. First missed game in five years. But it wouldn't surprise me if he's been irrevocably tagged as a "career backup/special teams mascot" and never becomes an entrenched starter in the NFL. Good news is a bigger, (faster?) and younger
Troy Reeder stepped in and posted
13 tackles last night. In 4 starts, Bryce had 10 total tackles. Don't misconstrue what I'm saying, still rooting for Hager, but given the realities of the Caste system, Reeder might be a better option going forward, if it's a
two-Goy race for one spot? Reeder was a starter at Penn State as a freshman, then transferred to Delaware. He seems to be a real "throw-back", in the sense that he's insanely intense. Watched the Rams pre-season games and there were constant sideline shots of "veteran blacks" trying to calm the "kid" down a bit. Was also thrown out of a pre-season ganfor a late hit or whatever. He's definitely one to watch. And like Hager, he's the son of an NFL player. I remember (Britt) Hager Sr. in the 1990's; don't remember Reeder Sr.
