Mbappe becomes the first teenager to score two goals in the WC since Pele. Here we go...the media have found a new hero.

Disappointing result. Argentina were poor at this WC. They struggled in every match. France will probably play Belgium in the QFs. The winner of that one might win the whole thing. Of the two I'd prefer Belgium.

Edit: I forgot to thank the Philospher for the kind words and the great tribute to Miroslav Klose! I'm a big fan of his, but I wasn't aware Germany never lost a match in which he scored; that's pretty cool!

You have to admit that was an amazing strike from Pavard...

Yes. That was a great goal from Pavard. Di Maria had a great strike as well earlier in the match.

Looks like Ronaldo is the GOAT after all?!

Internationally at least, that debate is settled. Messi disappeared today. Although Argentina's failure isn't shouldered just on him. Idiot Sampaoli started Messi up top as a striker, without Aguero or Higuain there instead, was ridiculous and handicapped Argentina for the 1st half. When Messi went wide, or dropped down, nobody was challenging France's CBs. A fitting end for Argentina's terrible World Cup.

I agree. Alexi Lalas is already homo-erotically talking about him here in the U.S. He was good today, but the media overrate him as usual. Having Giroud up top allows Mbappe to have the freedom to do what he's doing. Giroud is actually key to a lot of France's attack, and he makes the system work as the big target. As you mentioned and I mentioned earlier in my post, Argentina was not good. At least at the World Cup, he seemed to be a poor leader. His body language was awful, and quite frankly looked like Ozil more often than not when things went bad. As things stand, France, England, or Brazil winning would be the worst outcomes from our perspective.

France will play Uruguay or Portugal next round... hopefully the winner of that match are able to knock them off.

Uruguay starting 10 whites against Portugal's 7. After Croatia, Uruguay is our best team with a realistic chance of winning. I'm guessing due to Suarez's controversial incidents in the past, and the fact you can't really tell he's part black looking at the guy, the media don't exactly play up his African heritage, at least here in America.

Anyways, back to Uruguay. They haven't let up a goal yet this tournament, and Godin and Jimenez are a great CB pairing. If their attack is able to figure it out, Uruguay could become one of the favorites.

If CF members want a rooting preference for the remaining teams, it'd be:

1. Croatia, Sweden, Russia
2. Uruguay
3. Spain, Denmark
4. Portugal
5. Belgium

That is pretty much it. Five really good options, and two options to cheer for should the first five teams lose.

Griezmann (13') - 1-0

Di María (41') - 1-1

Mercado (48') - 1-2

Pavard (57') - 2-2

Mbappé (64') - 3-2

Mbappé (68') - 4-2

Agüero (90+3') - 4-3

Argentina's defence looks pretty shaky so far.

Messi disappeared today. Although Argentina's failure isn't shouldered just on him. I'm so angry on the neanderthals that make up the Argentinian defense. And let's not forget that clown of a goalkeeper either.

It looked like Sampaoli was just taking the piss out of all of us.How did this moron even make it to the position of the Argentinean NT coach?Who the **** is this Meza?

Why were neither of Higuan and Aguero on the pitch?Did he forget that Dybala was on the squad?

You have to admit that was an amazing strike from Pavard...

lexi Lalas is already homo-erotically talking about him here in the U.S.

We are done for,Jack and Endsieg.DWFs are calling him the best player on the French team as if Griezmann or Pavard never existed.Pavard's goal knocked the stuffing out of Argentina who didn't patch up a single attack for the next quarter of an hour, but everyone is going on and on about Mbappe this,Mbappe that:confundio1:.He's got the man of the match,he has a lock on the young player of the tournament on a lock(which the thug Pogba stole last time) and if France go really deep, expect him to be on the Player of the Tournament shortlist.Glad the Argentina fans are calling him what he is though:cool1:

Internationally at least, that debate is settled.

100%

Argentina was not good

They were never comfortable in this whole tournament.Read my rant on Sampaoli above. Its best if Messi,Higuain,Masceranho, and most importantly Otamendi, retire and then let the team be built around Dybala.

So let's make predictions for the next game?

I'm still going with Uruguay. If anyone knows how to keep Ronaldo quiet, its Diego Godin:rambo1:.
Pepe vs Suarez will be really entertaining too!:icon_popcorn:

ThePhilosopher, I don't know if you caught it, but I edited a thanks for your tribute to Klose in one of my previous posts.

Also, good analysis of Argentina. Sampaoli also seemed to start all of the teams mestizo players, making them more non-white then they should have been.

The stupid analysts also forgot the great ball by Giroud to set up Mbappe's second goal. You can bet if the roles were reversed, it would've been Mbappe's amazing pass that was talked about.

As for the next match, I'm thinking Uruguay. They've been really organized thus far at the tournament, and I expect their offense to click.

I'd end the list at 3 honestly.Portugal is too black, but the bright side is that Ronaldo will get all the credit, and Belgium is fairly white but the problem is that Lukaku will be praised for everything they do.

They haven't let up a goal yet this tournament, and Godin and Jimenez are a great CB pairing.

Forgot they are yet to concede. They are very solid and Godin and Jiminez as good a CB pairing you are going to see at this pairing, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and remember that they've only faced footballing lightweights like Saudi Arabia and Egypt and a average if competent Russia.

But I agree,Spain(like every tournament) and Uruguay look are best options. And I won't even talk about Croatia so as to not jinx them.

I didn't see that till you mentioned it now.And I'm glad you got something out of that tribute.

Giroud did brilliantly, but the Argentinean defense was at sixes and sevens really. It looked amateurish at times to be honest, and Mbappe had a bit to do both times to be fair, especially on the first goal. But I'm angry at how everyone else's and especially Pavard's contribution is already forgotten.

Argentina were beginning to dominate and like I said, his goal just shifted all the momentum in such a way that France began to boss around instead and Argentina didn't get close to creating a chance for the next 15 minutes and France began to run riot, thanks to the utter lack of cohesion in the Argentinean defense in no small part.

As for the next match, I'm thinking Uruguay. They've been really organized thus far at the tournament, and I expect their offense to click.

Exactly my thoughts.Suarez is no Ronaldo, but he has a better supporting cast.Plus the momentum is on their side,as Portugal was lucky not to be knocked out, because that Iranian should have scored from that one on one.

Reports in Turkey that Mesut Özil will RETIRE from the German National team.

This made my day.
Could be true considering that he will be 33 next time around and he always looks like he is constipated.I'm sure that I've never really seen a "top" player who is as constantly fatigued at the 70th minute as Ozil is.

Good riddance, for Ozil is a turkroach who supports an islamist who openly talks about white genocide:

Özil and Gündigan meet with Turkish president Erdogan
That's good to hear, I never understood the hype around him...

I agree with ThePhilosopher on Argentine incompetence. And who the heck was that clown who caused the melee with Pogba after Argentina's third goal? They needed to get on with the match as they'd only a minute or so left yet this clown gives the French an excuse to waste what time was left. Talk about self-defeating..

A Cavani brace sees Uruguay through to the QFs!! Both goals were moments of brilliance from the striker. I hope Cavani is ok after needing to be subbed off because of that injury. But Uruguay were fairly good at the back, with just a couple of shaky moments from Muslera.

It could be a shame if this is the end of Ronaldo and Messi in international uniforms. Quite a contrast between the two today. Ronaldo was constantly trying to spur on and motivate his team, while Messi was walking around with his head down or in his hands during the match. Still, it could be the end of an era today, although I hope not. Ronaldo is in great shape, and hopefully he makes it to 2022. If he's willing and able, I'm sure Portugal will pick him.

Thank goodness!! Now Germany can actually put somebody useful in that spot. Hopefully Khedira follows suit.

I believe that was Otamendi. What a buffoon. As as been said a bunch of times, Argentina were simply incompetent in every phase of the game, from the lineups to the tactics to the players.

I believe that was Otamendi.

It was him all day, bumbling from one error into another. He was so bad I would have taken Titus Bramble or even Papy Djilobodji over him.

Argentina were simply incompetent in every phase of the game, from the lineups to the tactics to the players.

The buck stops with Sampaoli and its scary that he isn't stepping down and rumors say that the AFA can't afford the 20m compensation that they would have to pay to fire him

A Cavani brace sees Uruguay through to the QFs!!

Uruguay 1 - 0 Portugal: Edinson Cavani (7')
Uruguay 1 - 1 Portugal: Pepe (55')
Uruguay 2 - 1 Portugal: Edinson Cavani (62')

It could be a shame if this is the end of Ronaldo and Messi in international uniforms.

Ronaldo is in great shape, and hopefully he makes it to 2022. If he's willing and able, I'm sure Portugal will pick him.

I think Messi is done for, specially considering the frustration that is evident in all parties invloved.International trophy simply hasn't worked out for him.Ronaldo has a Euro medal, while Messi just has a World Cup runners up one.

Plus Argentina has simply too much attacking talent waiting in the wings.Even putting aside Higuain and Aguero, they have young players like Dybala and Icardi who would walk into the starting lineup of most teams.

Ronaldo on the other hand will mostly still be there I think,as Portugal don't have the talent to replace him.Personally,I would play a 35 year old lethargic Ronaldo in my team as a central striker,as his aerial/heading ability and finishing are that good.I can't remember the last time Portugal actually had a competent striker, while they always have quality wingers and another decent one will surely emerge to take Ronaldo's place.

Thanks to JL and the Philosopher for their excellent detailed insights. Both were spot on with their prediction regarding Uruguay. Cavani was brilliant but he hobbled off with a calf injury. Good grief hope he is fully healthy for the quarterfinal.

Cannot express my disappointment over Argentina and more importantly Messi unable to muster much of anything.

Again I agree with all the analysis regarding Argentina. Yes their coach Sampaoli is a WORLD CLASS BUFFOON!! Thanks for the heads up about younger talents like Dybala and Icardi.

Who would have predicted both Messi and Ronaldo would not factor in at all yesterday? Right Philosopher Messi needs to facilitate and attack but having him up top considerably reduces his touches.

I cannot stomach France and they are a poster child for the caste system. The gifted white players on their squad will be overshadowed by the black "glory boys." It will be a disaster if they win the WC. I think they are touch overrated. I think both Brazil and Spain can beat them.

I was in a standing room bar watching both matches yesterday. I will leave you with this nugget. During the second match it was hard to discern who people were rooting for but in the first match it was unmistakable. Apart from a few people nearly EVERYONE in the bar was rooting for Messi and Argentina. Apart from the rooting for the "home" team part of sports ( where white fans routinely root for home team "black" athletes), if white fans are given a choice of who to root for in neutral events they will lean heavily towards whiter teams (players) and root against the blacker teams(players).

When Argentina went up 2-1 the entire bar EXPLODED.

Spain have been disappointing in this tournament thus far. The Russians have been playing for penalties from the moment they equalised in the first half.

Spain controlled the ball the entire match but if you don't ram it in the net you could lose to a defensive oriented team. And I thought Spain got fouled late in the box with a clear shove. That said Russia's "defensive scheme" did not allow Spain many good looks.

Next up is a very interesting matchup with Croatia and Denmark.

Nice to see Croatia equalize immediately after the weird looking negro thing on Denmark scored a fluke goal.

Two very quick goals.

Tied 1-1.

Croatia was caught early, but impressively came back with the equalizer.

Homosexual-sounding UK commentator is rooting for Denmark, praising the black players, making negative comments about Croatian players.

I missed most of Spain v Russia, but managed to catch most of the extra-time and penalties. Spain looked bereft of ideas and clapped out, I think they'll now have a big clear out of the old guard. They've served Spain well over the last decade, but all good things come to an end.

Congratulations to Russia, It's always good to see the hosts go far...

Strongest team in the world so far,by some distance.Godin-Jiminez and Suarez-Cavani won't be matched by any other corresponding pair in this tournament.Muslera is a weak spot though and their midfield while competent, may not be the best.

No mate, this is the real kind of insight this forum needs, and thanks a lot for this anecdote.

Spain never showed any fire or urgency and deserved what they had coming.I was screaming at the TV because they were playing tiki taka well upto the 75th minute, and I knew that Russia would have maximum advantage going into the penalties.I Can't wait for tiki taka to die.

That said Russia's "defensive scheme" did not allow Spain many good looks

This is being overlooked going by the MSM chatter.Russia were truly immense. They have the home advantage,so who knows?

Here's the Akinfeev penalty save which made the difference, and its one of the best you will ever see at a World Cup:

https://streamja.com/emV9

Here are the goals so far in the Croatia-Denmark game:

Croatia 0-1 Denmark - Mathias Jorgensen 1'
M. Mandžukić goal (Croatia [1]-1 Denmark) 4'

Its too tight to call, but Croatia is obviously better from the caste perspective so I want them to go through.

It was just football wankery with no pace, precision or real creativity:

Spain made 1137 passes in 120 minutes which is new official world record.

Just the same old probing and cutbacks and stuff.Funny thing was they went most direct after Diego Costa was subbed off.Germany and Spain really need to bring back the striker as the focus of their teams.

And you're right they need a massive overhaul.Isco,Nacho,Koke,De Gea,Bellerin,Saul,Carvajal should be the core of the next team.Silva,Iniesta,Busquets,Pique,Reina should be avoided like the plague and Costa,Ramos should be asked to prove themselves all over again.

Homosexual-sounding UK commentator is rooting for Denmark, praising the black players, making negative comments about Croatian players.

Our commentator mentioned that Spain had completed over 1000 passes as if that was supposed to mean something beyond boring us to death. They rarely ever looked dangerous. Even their goal was a bit of a fluke.

Croatia v Denmark has been much more entertaining.

This is as keen and succinct analysis you will find anywhere in the world. Philosopher you should be a TV analyst.

I didn't like Spain's style of play back in 2010 when they won the WC and I still don't like it.

And I reiterate that I am heartbroken Italy is not in this World Cup.

You didn't quote your post properly,so I've tried to fix that.

On topic, you give me too much credit. There are and have been posters here who could not only predict scorelines, but also scorers and the phase of play which would lead to the goal, with some accuracy.

Regarding tiki taka,Mourniho showed everyone how to beat tiki taka way back in 2010 with his limited Inter side.I still fondly remember those days and mourn the fact that Diego Milito didn't win the following Ballon Dor which he deserved. It was on its last legs in the 2010 World Cup and Netherlands almost beat them that day too.

Its ridiculous that this system persists at the grandest stages of football.Look at how Real how shown that the style is well past its sell by date with 3 consecutive Champions league wins.

And I reiterate that I am heartbroken Italy is not in this World Cup.

Oh what wouldn't I give to watch De Rossi,Chiellini and Barzagli bully opposition strikers?Buffon deserved a better send off for sure.:llorona:

And back to the current match,I think Denmark have the edge if it goes to penalties.Schmeichel looks the better keeper.
