I didn't see any one posting about Daphne Schippers winning National Indoor title 60m in 7.09 on the weekend! On a disgusting note mudshark Melissa Bishop is now posting pictures of her pregnancy on twitter, guess she has no issues bringing a half breed into the world...

seems Marybeth Sant has switched to Colorado State and is running indoor and out door this year. Hopefully being on home turf will help her. She recently ran a 7.50 60m not her fasted but a good building block!

I never knew why she left the track team at Oregon, but she had injuries and a medical condition which forced her out of the sport.

I guess he is the sprinter in the first lane. I wasn't sure who that was. Coleman set a world record in the final pending ratification......
Some notable collegiate performances this weekend so far:
Trey Cunnningham, former HS sensation, won the ACC 60m Hurdles as a freshman, 7.70
Steve Solomon 46.16 in the finals after 45.44 in the heats.
Shae Anderson, of Oregon, 52.83 and Zach Shinnick of USC 45.96. Both Freshman, both 2nd place in the 400m at Mt Pacific Championships.
Kate Hall 21-9½ for 1st place in the Long Jump at the SEC Championships. Also 4th fastest qualifier for the 60m finals tomorrow.

Adam Gemeli ran a 6.59 today. Good to see him run indoors which he doesn't do too often. Very fast time.

Kristoffer Hari ran a 6.74 yesterday for Arkansas in the SEC Indoor Championships 60m. he didn't qualify for the final, but this is obviously confirmation that he is running collegiately for the Razorbacks.

Thanks Jimmy. I've been waiting to see him compete. I posted a while back that he had went to school there but then never heard anything until you posted this today. The coaching he will receive at Arkansas can only help him to continue to progress as as a sprinter. He will also good a good education which you can always use if his athletics career doesn't take off. That being said I like his chances. Kristoffer Hari has never really done much indoor sprinting in his young career. Very little so the times will come down the road. I'm more excited to see what he can do outdoors this spring.

it was good Steve Solomon performed well to secure his C'wealth Games entry. He's had some chronic hamstring and some lower back problems so AA didn't insist he come home for the trials.
Apparently aircraft travel is no good at all for those problems.
His 45.44 equates to 44.97 outdoors so he's running into some form at last with 6 weeks to peak and his Duke coach told him not to push it too hard in the final to protect himself.
It must be said that's his first time running on a banked track

Schippers was lethargic last night in Glasgow - 7.29 heat, 7.22 final and well out of the placings.

Is it me or has track and field athletes of non-western African decent really made a leap in abilities and #'s the last five to ten years. Trae Williams, the young hurdler Cunningham, Teeters, Kilty, Purola,Robertson, Bromsby, Tortu, Artuso, 400 meter Shinnick and a slew of young 100 meter guys especially in the US like Cole Henderson, Blake Smith and many young 60 meter guys? Not to mention Gemilli, Yamagata, Kiryu, our Turkish hero and now Bingtian Su. We may not be dominating events but the participation levels and strong #'s seems to have jumped exponentially recently.
This will be the year of Samuel Purola from Finland. 14 months from now he is going to be a real threat to medal in the Olympics. I am not worried about Christian Coleman dominating the 100 meters when he goes pro as he is to light and can't carry that weight and speed past 70 meters. He is a 9.89 guy at best. Purola will be our guy. God willing.

I agree that Samuel Purola has amazing potential but I think he needs 3 or 4 years training to get to the highest level or close to it. His body is going to change so much and that will make it hard for him but damn does he ever have insane talent
As for right now both Jan Volko and F. Tortu are the most exciting sprinters to keep a close eye on.
Volko has lowered his 60 p.b. down to 6.57. He might just go sub 10 this summer and he has great talent
over 200 meters too. Jan Volko is only 20 years of age so he is only going to get better.
Tortu like Volko shows promise over both the 100 and 200 meters. Nothing other than an injury can stop this
Italian stallion. Both of these young sprinters are fearless and are as mentally strong as most elite sprinters
at such a young age. Confidence is very important in sprinting. I think that has hurt Lemaitre over his career. You
have to believe before you achieve.
The European Champs are gonna be amazing!

with Bolt(PED) retired, who is capable of sub 9.80 100m? Yohan (PED) Blake? Coleman(juicing?) is fast and weighs 160 or so, De Grasse is 150lbs and both can go sub 9.9(De Grasse is clean but is part negro) Tortu, Hortelano and a few others may go sub 10 given good circumstances on the day. I still think Jack Hale has potential to go sub 10 in the next few years, just gotta get him out of the limelight for awhile as he has way too much pressure on him at this time in my opinion. I doubt we will see Lemaitre go sub 10 again...

I am hoping Teeters can break 10, although if he did I don't think we would see much faster than a 9.99 out of him at this point. Ramil Guliyev might our best bet for a white 9.8x at the current moment, depending on how he looks when the outdoor season starts. Lemaitre actually is a darkhorse of mine for some 9.9x's this year. So far he has dipped under 6.6 in the 60m and that's a good sign from him. Kilty is another guy that could possibly get it together for some sub 10's but I don't see a sub 9.9 out of him and he is slower this year in the 60m than he's been the past few years. I think Bingtian Su can run sub 9.9 this year and Zhenye Xie can probably run sub 10. I'll be rooting for Emile Erasmus as well of course to have a big year! I feel the jury is still out on Hortelano and Tortu is very young so I'm anxious to see what they both do. All in all this year has the potential to be one of the best ever...time will tell.
EDIT: I forgot to mention Blake Smith. Don't know anything about him, but he's run a 6.52, a 6.54 and a 6.58 this year which is very impressive. No idea if he will run outdoor but I would imagine he could get close to 10 flat or dip under if the conditions are good.

Daphne Scippers finishes 5th in 60m in 7.10, she was never a factor in the final. Ahurae wins in 6.97 for a world lead. She looks much bigger this year.... Swoboda never made it out of the semis..
Hasan blocked Laura Muir in the final 10m with her right elbow as Muir was starting to pass her for second place and a silver medal....nothing done by the officials which is a joke as it was blatant. Muslim privilege?

I have a hunch Schippers has done her bit for track and field now. Does she really want to proceed for much longer? She's been in the world limelight since her teen years and now, 26 come this June, does she has anything else to keep her focussed in the sport?

I don't know about that as her start has always been weak compared to the elite 4 or 5 runners she is always battling for the medals at major meets. She is very tall for a female sprinter and looks like she is starting on a bicycle and only in the last half of the race is she catching up to the field.
The 60 meter dash is really a training session for her for the 100 in the outdoor season.

I doubt she is winding down at all, she has fire in her belly to compete, the only thing that could side track her is injury or having a baby with her partner. I think she is just starting to catch up to her muscular body as she matures. She brought on a new coach last year and has focused alot on strength, the speed will come...

The men's 60 exactly as I would have scripted it. Coleman clearly winning but pushed hard by Su Bingtian and Baker with Su pipping Baker by .02.
Great race with even 2nd place equalling Greene's championship record.
Volko and Taftian did well as did the other Chinese athlete (who is their 200m record holder) but the first 3 are a level up ATM

I was really impressed by Hassan Taftian running the at 6.53 in the final. Even Volko for his young age showed true grit and
with both of these guys making the final I can't complain. Richard Kilty won a few but now it's the new guys. The two chineese sprinters really impressed me. It's gonna be a great summer.
Happy to see Pavlak win again. He is the king of the indoor 400 and has been for a long time.
