Quick note for Marybeth Sant, she ran 11.60 100m +2.4 wind at the Mines Natures Bakery Invite in Colorado, she has run 7.43 60m indoor as well this year, not blistering times for this girl but it good to see her back competing.

Rubbish conditions and pretty crap times - Blake will be beaten by the Zharnell Hughes I reckon in the Games. I think the Brits should win the relay too.
Kilty ran first leg and got away from Trae Williams a good metre or perhaps a little more on the first leg. Good thing form Aussie point of view was Browning (10.46) being within 1.3 metres of Blake (10.34) in the individual 100. I don't hold out too much hope for any medal in that event though.
Elaine Thompson fastest 100 time in heat one in a very ordinary 11.72. Dina Asher-Smith heat 2 ran 11.31. I'd love to see her take down Thompson

Hey guys. We are just a few daya away from the 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletics which starts on Monday. The mens 100 meters will be one of the first races. Excited too see how the Aussies respond in international competition on home soil. Hoping for hot temps, with a slightwind at their backs.
I would love to see both Rohan Browning and Trae Wiliams post new personal bests or at least come close to them.
On the English side it will be interesting to see how Richard Kilty and Adam Gemeli open up for the start of a long summer season. Kilty is a father now so I'm hoping the extra incentive will help push him past that magical sub 10 this year.

1hr 20 till the women's 100 heats, 2 hrs till the mens 100 heats. Then add 3 hours till semis time.
Weather is 26/27C.
Wind will be trending about 18/19 kph (12mph) and from slightly south of due east (legal wind of 2mps is 7.2 kph so it is windy) but they run south to north and have a large grandstand to buffer the wind so don't know how it'll play out

Browning got the same time as the eighth finalist qualifier but was thousandths behind in the semi with the biggest opposing wind - that's Track.
Williams was 2/100ths further down and 3rd person from the final. So the two 20 year olds did well.
Clarke was 3rd in his heat against a 2.3 wind. Unfortunately winds make a difference from race to race, sometimes positive and sometimes negative in the one comp - but it's only times that count.
All ran fast enough to lose very little ground in a relay if they get everything right

All three Australian sprinters ran great. I was especially proud of Rohan Browning. The future is bright
mate. I have no doubt that Australia Track & Field is on the way up sprinting wise. At least on the mens side.

apart from Gemili, the Aussies were the only guys of non African descent. That's the way it is these days.
In the decathlon the top 6 shot put points getters were of African descent. Our guys need to muscle up.

and both south Africans beat Blake. Simbine 10.03, Bruitjies 10.17 Blake 10.19 so nothing special with very moderate wind.

maybe his PEDS hadn't kicked in as well as he had hoped, both SA's look like users as well. Too bad about Gemili, he seems to be injured quite often.

congrats to the Aussie HJ Brandon Starc Commonwealth Games gold medal 2.32m and Kathryn Mitchell Gold in Javelin 68.92m for a new Aussie record! Fingers crossed for Canadian 400m hurdler Sage Watson as she has made the 400mh finals.

I think the scientists have cracked the code of the designer PED protocol that the magical Yamaicans were taking. It's back to flat 10's and also ran status at major meets for most of the Yamaicans.....

whitest looking Jamaican I recall seeing. Her mother was white American and her biological father a mixed race Jamaican reggae musician. Her mother took her back to the States to grow up and married a caucasian American.

having just mentioned Celeste, she just ran a 13.19 to get nearly 1100 points and jump straight to the lead in the heptathlon.
A 0.3 PB and 0.7 best this season. Hope she keeps this standard up.

2 Australian girls into the 100 hurdles final even though Sally's missing.
The under-performing Michelle Jenneke actually broke into the 12s for the first time in a few years. Briana Beahan did an equal PB 13.02 so both look to be confident and in good form.
Medalling will be a long shot though against the Jamaicans and Nigerian

gave herself as much time as she could to recover from an achilles problem, even marched in the opening ceremony but couldn't recover.
That's why she finished badly in the World Indoors hurdles and her 100 relay leg as a Com Games warm up here a few weeks ago.

the problem with the Com Games is the patchiness of quality from one event to another. Several events today had 13 or 14 competiors for 12 to go into the final.
In the womens 800 the Aussie girls ran 2.00+, 2.00+ and 2.01.1 yet NONE progressed to the final. We've never had that depth but still not good enough.

On the plus side, the 16 year old Keely Small ran an Aussie Under 17 record with that 2.00.81.
Second fastest ever world 16 year old (to a GDR girl in 1987) and fastest under 18 time in the world this year by 3.2 seconds.
I hope she stays fit and interested in the sport

on an interesting note, Brandon is the brother of one of Australia's top international test cricket fast bowlers, Mitchell Starc.
Brandon is 188 cms while Mitch is 1.97 cms.
I pondered what could Brandon jump with his brother's height?

on interesting in side note 2 of my daughters competed in track as youngsters with both our Canadian women heptathletes, although back then it was sprints, throws and hurdles. Makes a person wonder how they would have done if the had decided to continue on in track and field.
