Here's a new name from Germany - Wendelin Wäcker.
If this is correct, this young guy just improved his 100m best from 10.70 to 10.20:
(0.0) 1 Wendelin Wäcker 10.20
I hope this isn't a typo.
Good to see Emile in action againSomeone commented on a German discussion board that this is a mistake and it was actually Emile Erasmus who ran 10.20.
Congrats to Xie. China now with 2 sub 10 sprinters and both in their prime. Xie is 24 and Bingtian Su is 28. These guys could very well possibly cruise down into the 9.8xx territory. These guys don't look roided up like a lot of sprinters and I've felt for the last few years that every sprinter needs to find their own particular sweet spot in terms of muscle mass and not getting too heavy. Some guys get significantly faster when they add a lot of muscle and other guys slow down. In any case, I feel that Asians performing well in sprints helps fight against the caste system, so I do root for these guys.XIE ZHENYE sets National record for China 9.97 legal wind, Taftian 10.15 5th, Lemaitre 10.17 6th at Meeting de Montreuil
He also wasn't "dragged" to the time as he didn't have visual contact with anybody as he was leading the field from the 40 meter mark on. I actually think he could run a low 9.9X or even a high 9.8X with the right conditions and being in the middle of the field with contenders for a medal at a major meet.Just watched the video....Xie ran 9.97 and won the race from Lane 1. Pretty impressive.
You would have to think America could have a few on their own. I think part of the problem is lack of money in track and field. People look at Bolt making 20 million a year but that's like looking at Mayweather's purses against Pacman and McGregor and saying elite boxers make this kind of money too. There are now 3 sub 10.00 Asians with more to come.
How many Caucasians would there be if we were not so psychologically beaten up? The Chinese are going to have a hell of relay team.
Tortu runs in Madrid on the 22nd against the two sub 10 Chinese athletes. Hopefully he gets a good start and the conditions are great. Hasan Taftian will be in the race too.
......I'm super excited to see Shubenkov back to his form of a few years ago. He is the only white hurdler to go under 13 seconds and he has done it a few times. He has also won a gold medal at the highest level. A true superstar.
Lemaitre actually impressed me. Despite the 6th place finish ran a good time of 10.17! Faster
than I expected. This should be a good confidence builder and hopefully he will start winning some races again very soon!
