Another good score as NCSU just went up on Florida State 44-21, still early in the 4th Qtr. That would give FSU their 5th loss to 4 wins and, hopefully, prevent them from getting to a bowl game this year with the requisite 6 wins needed.
Hate to root against Northwestern, but for playoff purposes rooting for Notre Dame. Teams like Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan, are not to be confused with Iowa, but rather see some of them in the playoffs than the usual suspects.
Hard to find much to root for in this LSU/Bama game........but pulling for LSU and their White QB to shut down the Bama and Tugalova Heisman hype. With Florida and Kentucky going down, WV should move up and become one of the one loss teams to start making claims to be considered for the playoffs.
Notre Dame vs Northwestern in a very competetive game and fun to watch! I think most here
are pulling for Northwestern as they are alot more fair to our guys. Two first place teams and
no one wants to give any ground. If you like defense this is your game. I'm enjoying it!
Washington is dominating Stanford. Love is not Christian McCaffery and Shaw is figuring that out the hard way by trying to build the offense around him.
Toby Gerhart is now doing analysis for the PAC 12 network.
Notoriously grumpy me-- I was not thrilled with the week. There were a few dynamite things which everyone covered above but two losses in particular got my goad.
Typically I stay on two "main" games ( although I can poke around a couple of more games) so I veered away at times from Iowa to watch Michigan and West Virginia (when they were on offense) and UMASS which I picked up on a local feed. Lo and behold I still managed to miss Sills and Isabella's big plays. I saw the replays. And then I come to find out this morning from the Big Ten network highlights that The Great White Hope of Iowa got sizzled not once but twice on TDs. Happens to black CBs every minute of the day. Lets see if Riley Moss can withstand the hurricane that is coming his way? He has played well. Just an off game for him and his team.
Along with the Iowa loss I was equally pissed to see Utah go down in flames to caste riddled Arizona State. I thought both Iowa and Utah were ready to take another leap forward. I guess not.
For the playoffs my math is simple. I do not want two SEC teams or Oklahoma anywhere near the playoffs. That means Michigan, Notre Dame and Clemson need to win every game. Pencil in Alabama. Georgia is their only remaining threat. Ohio State just isn't playing well enough to deserve a shot so if Michigan loses to Ohio State my guess is the Big Ten will be out of the playoffs.
I too noticed Jo Jo Domann playing LB for Nebraska in a game against Ohio State that was tight but somehow listless. Frost is an offensive minded coach. But the history of the great Nebraska teams were built around defense.
Clemson's leading tacklers were back ups LB Chad Smith and S Nolan Smith. Nice to see Tanner Muse get a pick. Their coach seems like a fair minded guy.
As I predicted LSU got beat like a drum. LSU in particular is a team I cannot stomach. Every stinking year come draft time we have to hear about "otherworldly athleticism and speed" especially for their defensive players. What did they give up last night? Around 578 yards!!!! Give me a break. This is why NFL defenses suck. More interested in how guys work out in shorts than their actual play on the field. Good riddance. I am glad they are out for good.
At least West Virginia won. And Sills had a strong second game in a row which will help solidify his draft status. But in order for him to climb the board he needs to keep up the pace.
Max Borghi was electric the few times he touched the ball last night. Curious why don't they design plays to get him in space for crying out loud? He is nearly as quick as Britain Covey and has the jitterbug moves and speed to really make a splash. Just scratching the surface.
Stanford's comeback sadly fell short. WR Irwin had a decent game and made a terrific TD catch.TE Kaden Smith along with Travis Kelce clone Jace Sternberger are two TEs that will be drafted high when they become eligible for the draft.
Nice to see Nate Cottrell have a nice stat line-9-90-1 as mentioned above. I seemed to miss many of the big plays yesterday as I was watching Michigan beat the hell out of caste Penn State.
As noted above WR Andy Isabella is having an insane season and yesterday was the tops as he beat Victor Cruz's school record. Oh wait a minute Cruz played in the NFL. So what is the hang up about Isabella? I don't want to hear about small school crap. UMASS plays a tough division one schedule. No excuses this man has to be invited to the Combine and drafted.
One caution. Isabella was limping badly in the second half. It is more important for him to be healthy come draft time. He has nothing left to prove. If he is banged up we need him in tip top shape for the Combine. Priorities are obvious in this case. Hopefully it was something minor.
Onto next week which starts Tuesday. Ha. Thanks to 22, Red, Leo and others for the commentary.
One other thing to keep in mind for this upcoming draft and 2020. A lot of white defensive players especially LBs and Edge players are playing lights out this year. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to draft them and get the NFL back to real football which includes simple things like diagnosing plays and actually making tackles. In other words playing defense. I don't know what to call what we witness every Sunday these days.
Well I went to the TTU vs OU game last night and it was disappointing to say the least. If Alan Bowman didn’t get injured and only play half the game I bet we’d be talking about an upset right now. He was playing amazing the first half and was completing almost every pass (21 of 27 I believe and 2 TD’s) before he got injured and was replace by Jett Duffey who is not a thrower. OU was one of the blackest teams I’ve seen (only white players were a few offensive linemen and their 2 tight ends, absolutely none on defense). For TTU senior WR Zach Austin finally got his first TD this year, he’s a starter but probably plays less than 50% of the plays with the way TTU rotates their receivers. Justus Parker played well and due to injuries at linebacker Brayden Stringer got to play a ton alongside Tony Jones. TTU had 4 white defenders out there at times.
I think it was a decent week - Isabella had a monster game. The three top senior QBs had very good games - Grier, Lock and Finley which should help draft stock. Jr QBs Stidham and Herbert also had bounce back games. Auburn's issue has been relying on a non-existent run game all year rather than letting Stidham air it out. Is their coach going to actually let Stidham be the catalyst moving forward?
Alabama - LSU was a dud. Where are all of those affletic play makers for LSU? Alabama has one of the easiest schedules in college football. Year after year the SEC gets inflated. Alabama is a good team - no way around that but the SEC as a conference is very top heavy.
Andy Isabella gets a chance to show out against a good defense in their last game which is against Georgia, I’m interested to see what he can do against those 5 star guys that are supposedly the best players in college football. Him vs. Deandre Baker should be a good matchup and I hope he puts up 150+ yards and some TD’s.
