McCaffrey only put up 10 reps on bench. Although he's not designated as a power back I was still anticipating a better # among his peers of similar size. Hoping expectations and pressure aren't creeping up on him. Need a good showing tomorrow..

Wait, 10 reps at 225? Was he injured or something? There are kickers and punters who have put up higher bench numbers. Heck, I'm 36 years old with a lifetime of exercise under my belt, but certainly not a world class athlete or anything even close to it. On a good day I can put up 10-12 reps at 225, and I'm close to CM's size. There must be some mistake.

RBs usually put up 20+ reps. LBs are in the 25+ range, TEs and lineman generally go high 20s and beyond. I can't believe he got only 10.

I hear ya.. He is typically a workout warrior and recognized as one of the most competitive and strongest players at Stanford. So I'm not exactly sure what happened but it appears to be atypical.

Well, sure enough, here's the video, this is very puzzling, it's a struggle from the first rep:

I hate to be negative, but that stinks!! I'm 50 been through Cancer and I can do 18-20 on a good day! I used to do 14 reps with 315lbs. My son could do 16-18,(225lbs.) as a 17 year old. Very disappointing!

That'll be all the ammo needed to ensure that he's not allowed to be a three-down back. Hate to say it, but unless he runs a spectacular 40, he needs to be drafted by New England, the only team that might use him properly.

That looked like when you are trying to use proper form. The combine allows poor form so either he couldn't handle the weight or he has an underlying injury. Just being explosive alone he should be able to do 12 slow reps.

I never understood why this is a major test for the combine as only linemen and fullbacks and tight ends push like this. A scat back like CM will block on decoy plays a few times a year.

Yes, I see lots of "half-reps" at the combine, the spotter will sometimes yell " lock it out" but they still count the illegit reps anyway. However, this is a weak performance by a RB, a position that requires a respectable amount of upper body strength.

McCaffrey can rebound from this bench disaster. He needs to run a 4.4 40 and do well in all the speed and agility drills, including the 10-yard split, vertical, and broad jumps. He should then focus exclusively on the bench over the next few weeks and perform on Stanford's pro day, with a goal of 16-18 reps.

I think too much stock is being put in the bench press results. The reps are only an indication of muscle endurance not strength. Over the years several running backs that never amounted to more than backup duty have benched over 20 + reps. Chicago Bears rb Jordan Howard, who got drafted in 5th around, but has played like a 1st, only benched 16 reps. Yes there is definitely room to improve physically without affecting his speed, but aside from this performance, the media & dwfs are now trying to portray CM as a crybaby for pointing out the obvious in relation to the caste system. The biggest thing CM will have to concern himself about is staying healthy. He's a major injury away from the media labeling him as injury prone. He needs to make sure he stretches well. I am crossing my fingers than CM stays healthy so guys like he and Zenner can pave the way for more white rbs in the league.

Easy bros! If you were McCaffrey, you don't do it perfect, that will lead you to Colts or Bucs. If he's that smart (COSIDA player of the year), only few teams can fit his style, and all of them are after 20th overall pick.

Let 40-yeard dash tells...

Christian just verticaled 37.5. That was SEVEN inches better than the explosive Dalvin Cook and ELEVEN inches higher than the explosive Leonard Fournette.
He also broad jumped 10,1. I think Cook was at 9,8, if I remember correctly. If so, CM beat him by 5 inches. Fournette chickened out of the BJ.

Don't get to caught up in the bench press numbers for CM. My guess is he has been working on his speed and 40 times leading up to the draft. I saw enough of him at Stanford to know he is more than strong and tough enough to be an RB. The combine leads to so many mistakes by the so called experts running NFL teams. Black runs a fast 40 but didn't produce in college...who cares?! He can run fast in a straight line so let's draft him because he has dat upside!!!! - That's it guys - that's all the combine is. It's a farce and the dumbest of the dumb are exposed every year with so many terrible draft picks made but the cycle repeats itself year after year after year.

As much as I hype the 40 I only do it because I am sick of white football players being labeled slow. None of these stats matter. NONE!!!! Watch highlights and players abilities on the field. That is what is most important. MC broke Barry Sander's all time all purpose yardage record by 500 yards. He needed two more games but he also did it not getting injured and with 2 fumbles lost with all of those touches. Leonard Fournette is talented but he is slow and a little tight. CM is the best back in this draft or any draft the last 10 years and the second best back to play in college ever. EVER! If he was black I would not type this on this site but still have the same feelings. Grrrrrrr.

Of course, another run still to come, but McCaffrey easily beat Kamara in the first 40. That means, so far, McCaffrey is the most athletic of the top runners in the draft, based on vertical, broad jump, and 40.

And I am absolutely confident that he will kill the cone tests. He's better at moving side to side than straight line.

Who cares!!!!!!!!! MC is an elite athlete. The combine is a joke. Most people in the world are insane. They need stats in their head to try and make sense of a world they don't understand. Look at baseball idiots. And I like baseball but you will never catch me with a scorecard. It is irrelevant. Wake up. MC will be a first round draft pick. Probably KC. Chad Hansen and Cooper Kupp Sould be as well but won't because of bad stereotypes. Grrrrr.

The best thing the 40 does is illustrate the double standard at play. Plenty of black RBs just ran in the 4.5-4.7 range and their is no question of their affleticism. Anything 4.5 or below is considered slow for a white player but that does not apply to black players.

Here are some examples of black privilege playing a role in some of this year's combine participants getting a free ride in college.

Chris Carson - 4.58 - was a combine invite based on his supposed big play ability because his production was not great - ah yes date upside.
Cory Clement - 4.68 - another mediocre black RB who benefited playing behind a dominant majority white offensive line. Chryst really can't find any white RBs? c'mon
James Conner - 4.66 - cancer survivor so I give him that for being able to bounce back and play in 2016. Other than that he is a pure power back and if he were white he would of been a FB
Kareem Hunt - 4.62 - every draft ******'s fav small school sleeper ran a 4.62, played in the MAC yet we can't get a white guy who can ran faster to play RB for a MAC team
Dare Ogunbowale - 4.65 - see Cory Clement.
Samaje Perine - 4.66 - Stoops negrophiliac tendencies allowed this guy to become an RB. Stoops won't recruit one white RB from Oklahoma who could run just as a fast though
Devine Redding - 4.74 - got to carry the ball a ton for a lower tier big ten school but no midwestern white RBs have run the ball for Indiana in a long time
Russell Shell - 4.75 - slow 40 time did not stop him from playing a ton of snaps at WVU which is located in one of the whitest states in the country.
Jahad Thomas 4.63 - Temple may actually become a better team if they did not solely focus on skin color. Plenty of white RBs in PA were faster than him.

I also expect John Lynch to go in full cuck mode this draft. I don't think Lynch wants to do anything to upset the caste system in anyway even though he himself was a victim of it. So many of these former white players suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.

McCaffrey has been dominating everyone in the drills. I mean he OWNS them. First was some test of cutting ability where he reacted so immediately to the "tackler" that it looked like he had extra sensory perception. Then came a drill where they had to cut around cones and McCaffrey stayed within about a centimeter of every cone. Then came the catching drills. Good lord. Dalvin Cook dropped his first short pass. Leonard Fournette bobbled his. Fournette went on to bobble his wheel route also (no hands). Speedster Logan keeps dropping passes. Meanwhile, McCaffrey has taken over the show. He snags everything that comes near him.

Of course, I'm not a scout and so I don't really know what the experts see, but to my eyes, he's showing more playing ability than anyone else. Combine that with his 40 time and his excellent leaps, and I can't see how there's any doubt about him.

McCaffrey looked fantastic in the field workout, not to mention top performer in 40, Broad & Vertical.

Scouts seem to agree with what I saw. Here's a guy, JJ McClesky, 8 yr NFL vet who teaches movement, tweeting on McCaffrey:

! No waisted motion and very explosive! Speed kill but footwork get you paid! #Efficient

NFL has also tweeted a simulcam of CM outrunning Fournette, Cook, and Kamara. I can't figure out how to copy and post it, but it's a good video.
