With the exception of a torn ACL which would have been worse, the Mike Trout thumb injury has officially ended any good cheer I had left for the summer which truth be told wasn't in high supply anyway. Trout, as noted here at caste was off to a terrific start, will be out roughly two months but there is a good chance he doesn't regain his form until next season. Talk about bummer to the nth degree. It takes all the air out of me. And I am not pleased that speedster deluxe SS Trea Turner is off to an awful start at the plate either. And CF David Dahl is nowhere to be seen. Mysterious back ailments? The top of the stolen bases charts is still being ruled by black guys like Hamilton and Gordon. Has the God of justice and balance left the building? Have we entered the black hole in the universe where all signs of joy have been eradicated? Granted there is still some white life out there in baseball this season but when white players start to evaporate from the sports scene I get this feeling of eerie emptiness and I start to despise everything about the sports world. Speaking of fed up whatever happened to member Beyond Fed Up or is the name itself self explanatory? I do wonder at times like these why I remain a sports fan. There may come a day.
Yep! Trout, Harper, and Kershaw were going to get me through the sports world this summer along with Spieth or Johnson in Golf. Has there been this many MLB STARS injured this early and often? Here's the injured list, but there may be more of note. Feel free to add:
1. Madison Bumgarner. He only hit 2 HR's on opening day. That's all!
2. Mitch Haniger, was leading the league in RUNS, OBP. and WAR when he went down.
3. Adam Eaton, was having a solid year for the white friendly Nationals.
4. Freddie Freeman, already a solid unsung player was really having a great year. Near or at the top of most offensive categories.
5. Mike Trout, quite possibly the greatest player of our time goes down.
Yes there is still some life with Harper and Kershaw, but Trout being out just stinks, because he was on track to break so many records and already had broken some. Now we'll just have to wait and see.
BTW, 9 of the top 10 NL BA. leaders are white and 16/17 of the top 20. The AL is a different story especially when Trout no longer qualifies only one white player in the AL top 10 BA. Tampa Bay's Cory Dickerson holds the number 1 spot for now and only 5 in the top 20.
