It should be noted that the Astros' Charlie Morton threw 10 1/3 innings in this World Series and only surrendered 2 earned runs - an ERA of 1.74. He was the winning pitcher for game 7. ...an impressive performance.
I'm most impressed with the Astros' pitching - they held the Dodgers to a .200 batting average in the series (only 46 hits in 230 at-bats). This was the key to the whole series.
The Dodgers' Yu Darvish threw 3 1/3 innings in the series while giving up 8 earned runs for an ERA of 21.60 - simply dreadful. Darvish gets the most blame in my opinion. Fun fact: George Springer was 3 for 4 against Darvish with 2 2B and 1 HR - his only out was a line-out.
The Dodgers' Alex Wood threw 7 2/3 innings in the series and gave up only 1 earned run for an ERA of 1.17. Wood would have been a better choice to start game 7 as he had 3 days rest and was lights-out as the game 4 starter. Too bad we couldn't have seen a Wood/Kershaw beginning to game 7.
Hindsight is 20/20, but it would have made more sense for Roberts to approach the series with a 3 man rotation of 1) Kershaw 2) Hill 3) Wood with Kershaw starting games 1, 4, and 7. Darvish should have been used as long relief or as a bridge before Maeda/Morrow/Jansen. After Darvish had his first poor performance in game 4 Roberts should have switched into the 3 man rotation.
