Unlike the 100m, no Asian sprinters made it through to the semis.

its going to be Bolt vs De Grasse....the Canadian guy basically walked the last 50 meters and ran 20.09...Lemaitre ran hard in a shitty lane, but I cant see less than 20.10 as his best in the semi

Okay, I watched all of the heats. Here's how I'd handicap our guys:
1. Hortelano--ran the best time and won his heat despite easing up. He's got a shot for a medal.
2. Guliyev--I'm being optimistic that the first half of his race won't be duplicated. His second half was spectacular. Longshot at medal.
3. LeMaitre--with him, lane draw is especially important. He looked pretty good, but he can't do much better if he draws another inside lane. Pray for lane 5 or higher. Very long shot at medal.
4. Gemili--looked good, but worked awfully hard for that time. Might not have a sub-20 in him this year. Decent shot a making the final.
5. Talbot--good speed endurance. Won't medal. Longshot at final.
6. Herrera--chances about the same as Talbots.
7. The Greek--didn't have the best heat, but has shown the ability to uncork a fast one in the past.
8. Galvan--well, he made the semis and should be proud. No realistic shot at making the final.

Christophe ran 10.61 in first part (because the bend) and 9.67 in second part (very very good, it was 9.85 and 9.90 in DL in London and Monaco) !

10.61, it's very very bad for him, he can run 10.35 -10.40 in first part (with good lane) and he can run 9.60 in second part (christophe said he ran not in 100%)

i think Christophe can run sub 20 in semi final with good lane !

RCSMAN, not doubting your numbers break down of Lemaitre's race, you say he "CAN" run sub 20 in the semi's I say he "HAS" to run sub 20 in the semi's to make the final, no matter what lane he ends up with. I think if he puts it all together for the semi race he might do it but he has to show racing form of 3-4 years ago to do so.

I think Hortelano is the sleeper in the 200, he basically coasted last 5-10 m and still ran 20.12. None of the announcers on multiple stations and most of the competitors didn't pay any attention to him until the end of the race today. His sprinting form shows a lot of relaxation, excellent speed endurance and "I" think he can go sub 20 in the semi's.

Football Dad....does Allen serve our purpose any better as he is a mulatto. How about Talbot, he is mixed race but looks white. How about Sydney McLaughlin she is a mulatto, looks white more than she looks black. Where does one draw the line? Not looking for a flame war but I am fairly new here and would like some feedback...

Like Don says, there is no line. The main purpose of the site is to promote white athletes (or perceived white athletes) to chink the armor of the caste system that promotes black athletic supremacy.

If anyone, like mastermulti, just wishes to praise the performances regardless of race, there is nothing wrong with that. Van Niekerk's performance was one for the ages, he deserves every bit of praise. Usain Bolt's and Simone Biles performances have been individually outstanding as well, I just think that they get enough praise elsewhere, they don't need it from us

Yikes, lane 8 for Christophe in the semis. It takes a special mindset to do well out of lane 8. From a purely mechanical standpoint, it is the best lane to develop speed in the curve as it is the "straightest" lane, but as we all know, and many of us has experienced, sprinting is half mindset.

I agree. I think what Van Niekirk did was amazing. Personally, I'll be cheering for Allen. He's definitely mostly white, and has green eyes. They showed his dad, and you can barely tell he's part black. The only people who are gonna know about Allen's small % of black heritage are the diehard forum reading Ducks fans. As long as there's no interview where he plays it up, or the announcers play it up, I'll be cheering for him. I'd say all "mainstream" fans will think he's 100% white. I'd say Allen would be a good thing.

I actually thought Sydney Mclaughlin was white lol I thought she was of Scottish/Irish/ southern Italy decent...I have an Italian cousin who looks very similar even to the curly hair and light brown skin colour and hazel eyes..

Anyone check out Sage Watson from Canada in the 400m hurdles..she is looking strong, I hope she makes it to the finals...She will have to run sub 54 to do so but I think she is capable of doing so.

I have said this before but maybe Allen's mother had an affair with a white guy. That picture on the left pretty much says it to me.

Watching the 200 heats where Bruno Hortelano runs down Yohan Blake it is pretty obvious Blake eased up the last 3 or 4 meters. Just saying.

Perception is most people's reality.
That's why there's a caste system in sports.
The perception is that black are always great athletes, and white are lesser athletes.
That perception becomes people's reality even if it's not true.
So similarly, if people perceive Devon Allen as white, he is white. And that helps distort the perception that all great athletes are black.
That is also why I will root for Asian athletes too. If they do well, the caste perception gets distorted a bit more.

a heads up for our young Australian girl Ella Nelson who ran past Jenna Prandini in the 2nd semi. She hasn't competed since Marck due to an injured hamstring and ran a 22.50 personal best here to miss the final by 1/1ooth. We may now have a sprinter of some calibre. She's just 22 but has heart and a nice fluent style.
Looks to be Thompson, Schippers and Bowie for the medals to me, in no particular order

Nice to see Lalova qualify for the finals. I agree Nelson looked quite good, looking forward to her developing in the next couple of years. Lukenkemper looks like she has the legs as well, she ran well for a young girl who is still getting stronger. In the HJ good to see a white man win in 2.38m well done Drouin. lol and they say "white men can't jump" I say bulldung to that....
