I felt very bad for Spieth, but Willett was a worthy young Champion. He and his wife, Nicole (who just gave birth to his first child), seem very close, as could be seen by their phone conversation in the clubhouse after Willett had won the tournament. Very nice to see a young white couple win $10,000,000 dollars...

Unlike during Tiger's dominant years, there are literally dozens of world-class golfers, both young and old, from nearly every continent, who can "get hot" and win any tournament. Despite the deep field, the iron-willed Jordan Spieth will surely bounce back quicly and will surely win many more majors in the future.

Thrashen, you bought up a great point that most DWFs seem to not recognize: There were four other good golfers throughout the Woods era who could've challenged him: Mickelson, Els, Goosen, and Singh. Now there were some decent ones like Furyk, but for the most part, it was mostly Mickelson as the one big name sole challenger to Woods. I don't think Tiger would be doing what he is doing today: In addition to Phil (who's been playing good this year, notwithstanding Augusta), there's so many young guns like Spieth, Rory, Day, Fowler, Justin Thomas, Matsuyama, Patrick Reed, in addition to vets like Dustin Johnson, Willett, Oosthuizen, Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, Zach Johnson, Justin Rose, etc. There's no way Tiger would be doing what he's today; he was a great player during his time, but I don't think he would've won nearly as many tournaments and majors as he did with today's deep field.
