One outside the box bit of good news in a grasping at straws kind of way was back up Clemson safety Tanner Muse had a spectacular interception TD return. He is a redshirt freshman and might get into the rotation next year. Serious athlete was considered a five tool baseball prospect but stuck with football. He has the size and the speed to make some big noise. In high school he ran a 4.32 40 yard dash and you can see that speed on his nifty return.
Carolina Speed is correct to point out listed 40 yard dash high school speeds have to be taken with a huge grain of salt. But once in a while the times jibe. I remember WR Ryan Swope had a 4.3 plus time listed out of high school but like Muse the talking heads completely ignored it once they started playing in college. If they were black it would have been the
main talking point. I also should add it is a rarity to see white players listed with 4.3 speed coming out of high school. Even 4.4 listings are often hard to come by for whites. For black players you see quite a lot of 4.3 and 4.4 listings. And often those times are
inflated.
I remember that 4.32 being listed when Tanner committed to Clemson which is one reason I followed his career like a hawk. Fellow CF member booth alluded to his 4.3 listed time as well yesterday.
What is not
unusual is the CF scouting "reports" being way ahead of the curve when it comes to promising white players which is why I couldn't resist posting this. Ha. By the way I am sure I am not the only member who remembers that Muse return which I believe was posted here back then. It was
spectacular!
