The Browns are rebuilding yet again, but are using more of a “moneyball” approach, with the result that they have one of the Whiter rosters in the league to start the 2016 season (17 Whites). There are 6 White starters, but that number has the potential to grow on defense as the team is grooming some very talented young players at linebacker and on the line.

With no teams starting an all-White offensive line this year, Cleveland remains one of the few to still start four. LT Joe Thomas, now 31, is the best tackle in the league and one of the best ever. LG Joel Bitonio was drafted by the Browns in the second round in 2014. RG John Greco is a solid veteran, while young RT Austin Pasztor is a 6’7” 308 pound mauler out of Virginia.

Rookie Spencer Drango from Baylor is a backup tackle.

37-year-old veteran Josh McCown is waiting in the wings if/when Robert Griffin III fails as the Browns’ starting quarterback. But the heir apparent to Griffin should be Cody Kessler, drafted out of USC in the third round this spring.

TE Gary Barnidge, after being pigeon-holed previously as a non-athletic journeyman, went 79/1,043/9 in his first year as a starter, making a number of highlight reel catches. In the six seasons prior to 2015, Barnidge had a career total of 44 receptions.

Cleveland stunned DWFs by drafting Seth DeValve out of Princeton in the fourth round. He’s listed as the team’s third tight end, but at 6’3” and 245 lbs. has the athleticism to play wide receiver.

On defense, rookie OLB Joe Schobert was recently promoted to starter over Nate Orchard, who was drafted in the second round in 2015. That’s a daring move for an NFL team to make, which gives hope that the new regime in Cleveland will treat its White players fairly. Schobert was Cleveland’s first pick of the 4th round this spring.

Rookie DE Carl Nassib led the country in sacks last year at Penn State and from all reports has had a fantastic training camp. Still listed as a backup, it’ll be a major upset if he doesn’t start at some point in 2016, and an even bigger upset if he isn’t immediately an impact player.

Scooby Wright was perhaps the best college linebacker in the country but wasn’t drafted by the Browns until the 7th round, because of concerns about his “athleticism,” a time-honored label applied to most White LBs who are tackling machines in college and who almost always do well in the NFL when given a fair opportunity. Wright begins the season as a second string inside linebacker, as does Tank Carder, the fifth year man from Texas Christian.

Tackle Jamie Meder, in his second season from Ashland, has looked very good and should be part of the DL rotation.

Half of the practice squad is White – OL Anthony Fabiano (Harvard), OL Dan France (Michigan State), TE Connor Hamlett (Oregon State), QB Kevin Hogan (Stanford), and punter Michael Palardy (Tennessee).

Starters:
LT Joe Thomas
LG Joel Bitonio
RG John Greco
RT Austin Pasztor
TE Gary Barnidge
OLB Joe Schobert

Number of White players on 53 man roster: 17

Grade: D+

If/when the gremlin loses the starting job this year it will be a team I root for because they have 3 of my favorite players from the draft class on the team.

I hope Scooby ends up playing a lot and becomes a wrecking ball like he was in college

Moneyball is about finding maximum value in players - so they really should have picked up more of the many undervalued white football players...Glennon handing off to Gerhart and Hillis or throwing to Janis, Braverman, Hartline and Cooper.

Sadly I don't think Riley Cooper will ever play in the NFL again remember he said ******. Doesn't matter if a black guy discrimanates a white guy, if a white guy does it he's done.

Carl Nassib had a big first game last Sunday and just as I expected would happen this season, has now been promoted to starter:

Rookie defensive end Carl Nassib is listed as a starter heading into Week 2 after being labeled a backup on the depth chart before the season opener.

"Direct result of a performance," coach Hue Jackson explained. "We do not really give anybody nothing. You have to earn it, and he is playing well. He really is. He is doing some good things, and I think any player that plays the game the way we want them to play should be rewarded for that, so he is. He is one of the starters on our football team, and I always look forward to watching him play because he plays with a passion, energy and tenacity that I think you have to play this game with.”

Although he was listed as a backup, Nassib started Sunday's 29-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with the Browns opening in their nickel package. He also led all defensive linemen in playing time (54 of 77 snaps, 70 percent).

The third-round draft pick from Penn State finished with three tackles, a sack and a pass defensed in his NFL regular-season debut. He was one of three rookies to record a sack in Week 1, and he's been nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week award.

With all 3 of the his 100-yard games last season coming with McCown at the helm, Barnidge should instantly benefit from the Robert Gremlin's latest injury...

With the additions of Carl Nassib and McCown to the Browns starting lineup, they are a far more palatable club to root for.

Carl Nassib broke his hand yesterday against Baltimore and will need surgery. He might be able to play with a cast after missing some time, but that still stinks.

Rumors circulating that the Browns plan to cut Scooby Wright and sign him to their practice squad. Let's hope someone else snatches him up and he doesn't clear waivers.

Hogan has been promoted and Charlie Whitehurst released. Interested to see what Hogan can do if given the opportunity.

And now this blurb from weenie world:

Kevin Hogan - QB - Browns
Browns promoted QB Kevin Hogan from the practice squad.

DT Gabe Wright has also been promoted to the 53-man roster. The No. 152 overall pick of the draft by the Chiefs, Hogan was waived at final cuts. A "winner" type, Hogan has unimposing physical tools, but is all the clichés — hard worker, high-IQ, gym rat — you could ever want a quarterback to be. He's not that much different from Browns draft pick and current starter Cody Kessler. The Browns would rather take a shot on developing Hogan than suffering through Charlie Whitehurst. Along with Terrelle Pryor, Hogan should back up Kessler against the Titans.

They couldn't be more wrong as Hogan is actually a hell of an athlete. I need to figure out how to start attacking these blurbs on twitter or elsewhere. I am sick of it.

Hogan is now atop the qb depth chart in Cleveland. I hope he improves upon his debut as he absorbs more of the playbook. The Browns qb issues this year have been pretty astounding. I think Kessler will be the guy once he is healthy but perhaps Hogan with a solid showing can show promise as the backup qb down the road and maybe start somewhere else down the road. Again Manziel is the biggest loser here squandering such a great oppourtunity for himself.

The Browns are now 0-12 and have a real shot at going 0-16.

The Browns have been mismanaged to the ground by affirmative action front office hire Sashi Brown. Brown has no football background and hired a baseball man to assist him. Brown is incompetent.

In a colossally stupid move he passed on franchise quarterback Carson Wentz in the draft. Browns fans will think about that for years to come.

I don't understand why Hue Jackson keeps jerking Kessler and putting in McCown. Obviously, this season is lost, let the rookie gain some confidence and experience.

My bad. Apparently this week Kessler suffered a concussion and wasn't pulled.

Don't worry, I'm guessing the Browns will have the number one pick in next year's draft. I'm guessing Kessler's fate will be like that of Mike Glennon as DeShaun Watson will be anointed the starting QB before even taking a snap.

The so called moneyball approach originated in baseball, a sport where statistics can more accurately predict success than in football. Even so, as far as I know, this approach never produced a championship.

This approach may have influenced the Browns to pass on Carson Wentz, a franchise quarterback. This was a huge blunder.

The Browns are run by Sashi Brown, an incompetent AA hire. They might go 0-16 this year because of him.

Not only that, if they truly were using moneyball, their next few drafts will surely be the whitest. Picking up undervalued players who have put up good statistics and you can spend a load of late round draft picks on? Literally screams drafting of white players.

RG3, aka Gremlin, RGKnee, etc has been chosen to start this week against the Bungles. I'm sure the media will be watching this one with baited breath hoping that one of their magical race favorites can come through. If the Browns win it will be a solid nod in the direction of the conspiracy theories championed by one of our favorite lost posters, BigUnreal.
