A great wire-to-wire victory for golf’s youngest star! Jordon Spieth manages to simultaneously represent several of the most detested groups in modern America…a white, Christian southerner with a German surname (“Spieth†is a very popular last name in Southern Germany, which makes sense, because Jordan's parents were born in eastern PA).
Rose and Mickelson kept grinding despite the daunting deficient, Poulter made a nice run at the end, Casey/Johnson/Hoffman played great, and Rory nearly missed the cut on Friday if he hadn’t turned it around on the back nine.
Unlike during the ever-torturous “Tiger Years,†Spieth will have top notch competition like: McIlroy, Mickelson, Watson, Z. Johnson, D. Johnson, Schwartzel, Oosthuizen, Westwood, Mahan, Poulter, Stenson, Donald, Kaymer, Day, Scott, Rose, Fowler, Garcia, Snedeker, Els, Walker, etc., any of whom could shine on any given tournament. Like professional boxing over the past 15-20 years, golf is now a “world sport†that features top athletes from the U.S., Northern Ireland, Ireland, Australia, England, South Africa, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, etc. Spieth and McIlroy, the future stars of the sport, will have a much more difficult time maintaining their dominance than Woods.
Speaking of Tiger, it seems the prediction I made prior to the tournament (see below), unfortunately, came to fruition…

While I’m not nervous that Tiger to contend for the win, I think he could finish somewhere in the top 10-20. I think he makes the cut and becomes a “big comeback story†this weekend. I hope I’m wrong, but the guy seems to be playing well in practice rounds, happy, confident, loose, and he really has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Let’s be honest, Woods was fantastic for the first three rounds of the Masters, especially given his putrid play thus far in 2015, his two month layoff, and the normally Tigerphillic corporate media inferring that he’s washed-up and has the “yips.†His 18[SUP]th[/SUP] place finish wasn’t expected and in my opinion, he’s still a minor threat in any major tournament and I’m not comfortable until each Major Championship has been decided.
Woods was seen tossing clubs and was caught by CBS microphones cursing loudly on multiple occasions after poor shots. Contrast Woods’ endless boorishness with the class act such as Phil Mickelson, who I heard uttering disappointed phrases such as
“darn it!†after errant shots.
For once, Tiger wasn’t plagued by a back injury, but he allegedly
“dislocated his wrist bone†after hitting a tree root with an iron…
