Here are the projected white players starting for Tennessee this year. Since 2005, the Vols have started 4, 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 2, and 4 whites. In a truly shocking development, expect that number to more than double to 10 this year!!!! The Vols have done a complete 180 on offense, with 4 whites projected to start on the OL, in addition to WR Josh Smith, who has been turning a bunch of heads in fall camp so far; even head coach Butch Jones singled him out for praise! By some reports, Smith has been the best WR in fall camp! On defense, WLB Dillon Bates (the son of former Vols and Dallas Cowboys safety Bill Bates) looks to start out of the gate as a true freshman! The Tennessee coaches have been raving about him, and thus far, he’s lived up to the hype. TE Ethan Wolfe has had a good camp, and will be on the field in two TE sets. The two tackles, Coleman Thomas and Jacob Gilliam, appear to be locking down their jobs as well. Backups to look for are: QB Nathan Peterman, TEs Daniel Helm and Brendan Downs, LT Brett Kendrick, LG/C Dylan Wiesman, and RG Austin Sanders. I’d also imagine we could see WR Cody Blanc at some point as well. A lot of this is based on info I’ve read coming out of Vols camp, so the situation is still very fluid, and I’ll update the post accordingly. But for now, go Vols!! I can definitely cheer for this team.
