2014 NFL Draft

The Patriots seem to almost always have black drafts full of questionable picks. It's annoying.

Leonard Fan, I don't understand it either, especially as they seem to be quite a fair minded organisation with whites in free agency and in UDFA. For me i don't understand why they go all black or majority black year in year out.

The patriots clearly have a hole at inside linebacker where Spikes played and at outside linebacker/defensive end where after Jones and Ninkovich they lack quality depth where unfortunately Bequette does not seem to be able to take the next step like we hoped and Will Smith is a stop gap.

They have to take Borland or Murphy for me! Murphy looks like the long term replacement for Ninkovich.

Surely Bellichick can see the merits of white players, I don't understand why he does not draft more whites I don't believe in a conpsiracy to stop squads being too white friendly (a majority white roster) but i must admit it is perplexing looking at Patriot drafts.

I think they do it to avoid accusations of racism.

I have been reading articles and checking out message boards and all the "experts" and DWFs seem to think that the Vikings got a steal with Sewerwater and he is somehow the second coming. It's the RG3 hype on a smaller scale. Their is a reason that he fell, he doesn't have the arm strength or build to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball down the field and take hits in Norv Turner's offense. Bridgewater will be a checkdown QB. I am glad that he has to go up against Cutler,Rodgers and Stafford. He will not win a shootout against any of those QBs.

Everyone seems to be disparaging the Browns for drafting Manziel saying it was the owner's pick. If Manziel were black everyone would be doing a total 180 saying the Browns finally have their franchise QB and all that crap.

Indeed I would imagine that is the reason. Just a shame they can't take the plunge even a 27 out of 53 man squad could work wonders to wake up the nfl fanbase to how good white nfl players are. Imagine the Pats winning the superbowl with a majority white squad.

Tripp would also be a good fit in NE. It will be interesting if they move Mallet and draft a QB early in the 2nd. I am hoping Urban, Tripp, Murphy, Borland and Reily all get selected in round 2 or 3 tonight. We need an injection of young white defensive impact players.

Tripp would be good also like Tyler Starr he looks good stats through the roof and a fantastic three cone drill that the Pats value highly.

Keep seeing Reilly in the third round on walterfootball mock drafts along with Tripp Muprhy and Borland in two and three. CHris Borland to Miami at 50 to replace Ellerbe is the shout on Walterfootball.

He doesn't have the intelligence to be a pocket qb either. He had the lowest wonderlic score out of all the quarterbacks in the draft. The only thing he has going for him is his black skin. I'm actually hoping he wins the starting job. Minnesota has to play outdoors next season and the NFC north is the coldest division in football. So he's going to play like half of his games in very cold weather. I think he'll have a horrendous season.

Oh and one slight correction to what you said. If Manziel were black everyone would be saying the Texans finally have their franchise qb. There's no doubt he would have been called a once in a generation prospect and there's no way any team with the number one pick would have passed him up.

Lew very true about Manziel if he were black - he would of been the number 1 overall pick and a once in a decade talent - just like Clowney was labeled even though several DEs over the past 10-12 years have had similar measurables and come to the NFL and been pretty average/inconsistent.

It sounds like hatie smiff is changing his tune on Glennon, saying that he is the future for the Bucs. Hopefully this is true and the Bucs do not draft a QB today. There are also rumors that the Jets may draft a QB, now if this happened it would make my day as Geno Smiff would probably throw an instant temper-tantrum and his meltdown would be expedited :icon_lol:

When the Broncos drafted Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby, Mike Mayock went on about how Jared Abbrederis wore out Roby for 10 catches head to head. Of course, 5 WRs had already been selected and he listed his top 3 WRs still on the board, and Abbrederis was nowhere to be found... It reminded me of how Jordy Nelson dominated Aqib Talib in college, but Talib still went in the 1st round. Now Talib is making 9.5 million and Jordy makes 3.1 million.

It would be good but it's really just a drop in the bucket

Ponder was never given a chance and their was no plan to develop him with Leslie Frazier at the helm.

Ponder is a decent player who, unfortunately, has been hampered by injuries.

The Vikings drafted Bridgewater who doesn't quite fit Norv Turner's offense.

They would have been better off drafting Derek Carr or Tom Savage, both of whom have a higher upside than Bridgewater.

What a crazed evening. It looked like Cleveland blew it I kept saying what the hell are they doing but somehow they got Johnny Football later in the round--I feared he would land in no mans land Arizona or Tampa Bay or even worse as one person here pointed out landing in Dallas and holding a clipboard for 4 years. Instead the beat up town where Lebron gave the finger to rises out of the ashes like a fairy tale and gets the one guy everyone was talking about--btw I have always been a Jon Gruden fan. This is a perfect fit. A super traditional down and out franchise with rabid fans--did you see the whole city of Cleveland is jumping for joy---the excitement when Johnny Football will bring to this city and the NFL all I can say is I can't wait Sheer joy for a change. Can you imagine the excitement in Cleveland home games?

Cleveland made an excellent choice with Manziel. He'll energize the fan base as well as turn the team around on the field.

Manziel has all the makings of an NFL superstar.

The Patriots have been close to a majority White roster, and they have been the Whitest or close to the Whitest team for five or six years now even as they have been the most successful franchise over that same period, but unfortunately it has changed perceptions very little.

The DWFs' beliefs have been so well programmed by the media that it would take lots of not just majority White teams but predominantly White ones doing well over a period of years before their eyes would begin to open, if then. The worship of blacks by a large segment of whites is incredibly deep and unshakeable.

I suppose being a fan for only a few years i have too much optimism Don lol!

I assume Don you don't think we will get to the magic number of white players drafted? What was the number in the mid 1990s, Have i seen 75 mentioned from back then? 25% is 64 and even that looks hard now with only 5 in the first 32. 59 including 4 kickers last year maybe hard to even match last years poor total.

My experience is that every year the number of Whites drafted is disappointingly low, and that some players we followed for years and expected to get drafted, don't. I think it was Truthteller who documented the first round of 1989 as the last time a large number of White players were taken.

The second, third and fourth rounds are key as to whether the numbers improve at all this year. Players taken in the fifth, and particularly the sixth and seventh rounds are perceived as underdogs and longshots and often don't make the team.

Don, as I've noted many times, the 1989 draft was last draft that was fairly white friendly. What changed after that, who knows? Did it have something to do with the super liberal Paul Tagliabue becoming the commissioner in 1990?

1989 saw 12 whites (out of 28) picked in round one. Dallas and Phoenix also forfeited future 1st round picks in the 1989 Supplemental draft to select QB's (Walsh & Rosenbach). A whole bunch of whites were picked in rounds two and three (link below) in '89. My guess is over 43% of the players picked in the top 3 rounds were white in 1989.

In 1990 it changed rapidly. Just two whites (George & Brostek) in round one and only a handful in each of the next two rounds. Things have never changed much since then. I would say in most drafts since 1989, whites make up less than 20% of the players drafted in the top 3 rounds. That's real bad and serious cause for concern because that's were most of the NFL starters are found.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon could face a season-long suspension after a second failed drug test months ago, this time for marijuana, sources told "Outside the Lines" on Friday.

Mettenberger,McCarron,Garroppolo,Murray, Fales,Smith, Gilbert, Carr, Martinez, Browning,Shaw Lynch. All Qbs worthy of draft selections.. Martinez and Lynch have potential at other positions.

Hoping this 2nd round is better but won't hold my breath. Off the top of my head seeing Roby,Smith,Easley, and Juwuan Johnson as 1st rounders was a joke.

Joel Bitonio is a left tackle who tests out very well athletically. Teams needing a tackle should target him in the second round.

It will be interesting to see if inferior black tackle prospects such as Kouandijo and Morgan are taken ahead of him.

Unfortunate for Manziel, but good for Jordan Cameron. It's ridiculous that players with multiple DUI's are still playing, but a year suspension for weed?! When is this country going to grow up and quit telling people which ways they can or can't get high.

I was listening to some dumbass analyst on the radio today predicting Bitonio will end up with the Blackhawks, but used the old "arm length" concern as to why he won't play tackle at the next level. Amazing how this particular criteria has been used to blacken arguably the most important position on the O-line.
