I'd thought I'd get the thread for next week's PGA Championship started a little early for anyone who would want to discuss it. Today, when I was watching some coverage of the Bridgestone Tournament, I got to listen to loads of Tiger worship. He may be blowing the field away this week, including one of the best rounds of his career Friday. Apparently to the announcers however, Tiger's already in the driver's seat for next week at Oak Hill. So we shouldn't even have to tune into the PGA at all, as Tiger shall surely be miles ahead of the wimpy field by midway through his first round. :crazy:

The way I see it, however, is a bit different than those Tiger Worshiping announcers, who desperately want him to break through and win a major. Tiger has been playing these small tournaments very well, especially at Bridgestone (where he's won 7-8 times or something like that), so I'm not too concerned about his play this weekend. Should be a fun event next week!

I've been watching some of CBS Sports' classic coverage of the Final Round 2005 PGA Championship, where Phil Mickelson won the event by a shot over Steve Elkington and Thomas Bjorn. One thing that hasn't changed since then; the media was even more nuts for Tiger Woods back in 2005. It's truly nauseating watching the announcers openly cheering for this guy. He's 5 shots back of the leaders right now, but they media still is praying for and desperately wanting Woods to come back and win. Woods just missed a birdie on the 16th Hole, and the announcer said something like: "Dang, if Tiger birdied 16, and eagled 17 and 18, he would've been at -5 and right with Mickelson." Woods seemed to have just as much priority as the leaders in Mickelson and Elkington, as each of his shots were shown, without delay. God forbid that they would show Goosen, Singh, Perez, Bjorn, or Love III, who were just a couple shots back at the time, for more than a couple of seconds at a time. For awhile, I thought the announcers were about to weep when Woods was officialy out of it. They were cheering every shot and every put that Tiger had taken.

This is just a small snippet of what we can expect should Tiger win a major, or even be in the lead on Sunday. It's been refreshing to have Woods out of contention for the most part by the middle of the final round, so the media at least finally shuts up about him.

I agree, Don. Most DWFs though, it seems have already "forgiven" Tiger for his womanizing activity. They've said he's done his time, and he deserves to win again. DWFs are back into full Tiger mania, not caring at all about what he's done. They want a victory to "shut up his haters." I guess they aren't called DWFs for nothing. I wonder what they'd be saying if a white golfer did the same things Tiger had done?

There's some good news today though through all of the mindless Tiger Media, and crazed DWF support: Jim Furyk has played some great golf today, and is the leader at -6 right now. A host of other white golfers, including Paul Casey, David Hearn, and Matt Kuchar. Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Rory McElroy, Zach Johnson, and others still have to tee off yet this afternoon.

Also, a recent development, we didn't even need bigunreal to post before Tiger had some bad luck: Woods had started off at -2, and the announcers were ready to proclaim him the favorite, until he missed about a 3 foot birdie putt. Woods proceeded to bogey the next hole, and now double bogeyed 18!! This puts him at +1 for the tournament, 7 back of Furyk.

The 10-second attention span of the star-struck DWF’s has certainly expired and Tiger’s repulsive personality is rarely ever mentioned by anyone. Yesterday, Football Dad posted a link to a video of DWF’s, many of them young, swarming “His Royal Surliness” for autographs at Oak Hill to the point at which injuries occurred. What sort of “parent” would allow their child to exalt such a rotten, ostentatious, dispassionate little black cretin? A rhetorical inquiry, of course...

After five unfortunate victories this season, Tiger has been playing undeniably well this year and with the exception of the U.S. Open (where he finished 12-13 strokes back) he has contended in every major championship. He’ll typically secure the outright lead (or threaten within 2-3 strokes of the leader) during majors, only to fade on Saturday while white golfers surge. Here is an ominous fact concerning Woods’ chances at Oak Hill…

Woods has four previous wins in the PGA Championship—1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007—and in each of those years, he won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational as well.

I’ll be rooting for my favorite white golfers (Mickelson, Stenson, Kaymer, Bjorn, Westwood, Mahan, etc) and hoping that the PGA Tour’s resident brown turd gets humiliated and flushed back into the sewer, joining his PED-injecting, watermelon-headed, beastiality-craving boyfriend, Lindsey...

That would be great! Here's to seeing that tomorrow! McIlroy is now playing great as well, with three birdies in his first five holes. Mickelson has been struggling a bit; hopefully, he'll get it together before too long. If there's enough players in between Tiger and the lead, it will make it that much harder for him to come back.

Thrashen, I did see that video. That's absolutely ridiculous to see that. It's a complete disgrace. And I also found your post on Lindsey Vonn very true and amusing at the same time.

Just a quick update from the PGA. While his Royal Highness sits at +1, a ton of golfers are now under par, with Adam Scott in the lead at -6. Scott has been playing great the last couple of years; even when he doesn't win a major, he's always in the hunt for one. Martin Kaymer has been a great surprise today, shooting -4 to this point in his round. Jim Furyk played great. Phil Mickelson has been playing better; fighting back with 4 birdies after starting +3.

I could go on and on with the white golfers playing well so far today; the aforementioned Furyk, Scott, Kaymer, Mickelson; one could also throw Justin Rose, Paul Casey, Matt Kuchar, Rory McIlroy, Zach Johnson, David Hearn, Lee Westwood, and Miguel Jimenez are all playing well thus far. It should be a great Sunday if the results so far are any indication. The big bonus is: Tiger is at +1, 7 back of Scott, and there are 40 players under par right now; that's a LOT of players for Woods to outplay, especially since a ton of these guys have major experience, and many have beaten him head to head in the last few years.

I don't think we need Bigunreal anymore, because I believe Woods has found his bad luck charm by way of his current mudshark, Lindsay Vonn Afrika (tm Thrashen). However, it will always be helpful to have him on call and ready to intervene, in case Woods makes a run on Friday or Saturday.

There are too many talented White golfers playing well and we could be in for a treat over the weekend. The Woods nut-huggers in the media were devastated after their hero faltered, but as always, even if he's 40th or 60th, it will be all about "Tiger" today and tomorrow. Only if he's completely out of contention do we get a Tigee-free Sunday during a major.

His Lordship shot even par today, thanks to a bogey on the last hole! Tiger's out of it now. Also, props to Jason Dufner! He just broke the course record at Oak Hill, and tied the major record for lowest score with a 63 today! He's now the leader at -9; Jim Furyk has a chance to match his -9, as he still has a couple of holes left to play. Matt Kuchar is also at -7 along with Furyk and Adam Scott, who continues his amazing play in majors. Steve Stricker and Justin Rose have been playing good as well this weekend.

Wow! This surely can not go unpunished! I just checked ESPN's article, and although the first part is about Dufner, Woods of course gets his own section. Kidding aside, I find this very amazing as well.

Usually the titles on ESPN and FoxSports read like something like this(just an example title):

Two Swedes, Henrick Stenson (-7) and Jonas Blixt (-6), are in third and fourth place. No Swede has ever won a major. Then it's Steve Stricker and Adam Scott at -5, followed by Rory McIlroy and the ubiquitous Lee Westwood at -3. McIlroy has gone -7 over his last 36 holes after a poor start.

Furyk is 43, the same age as British Open winner Phil Mickelson. He lost the U.S. Open last year on the final two holes and pretty much disappeared since then until now. Would be nice to see him win a second major as it may be his last chance. However I'll be rooting for Adam Scott and then Rory and Westwood, though they are both six shots back. Scott is right in the hunt in just about every major now and winning his second this year would be great. At any rate it should be a riveting final round, along with another day of mourning by Rich Lerner :kev: and friends at the Golf Channel with their beloved Tiger way out of it.

I would like to see Rory win his 3rd major at age 24! I want to see someone, anyone come and challenge Tiger's 14 majors someday and sit second behind Jack. However, if Rory can't make the charge and win, i'll be pulling for Adam Scott as well.

With an absolutely perfect shot into 16, it looks like Jason Dufner is putting a real stranglehold on the PGA now. Furyk made his putt to remain 2 back, but it's going to be hard for Furyk to do anything on these last two holes, two of the hardest on the course.

The good news is that another year has passed and Woods has gone 0/4 in majors. He will be 38 next year, another year older, and that much removed from his prime and fast approaching that age limit where very few golfers have won majors. Add to this the fact that there are many more young White golfers in their primes, with a great deal of parity in the sport, ready to contend for years to come. I doubt these men are afraid of the so-called Tiger mystique, which is fast becoming a distant memory.

In my opinion, realistically he has a 2-3 year window in which he may win 1 or 2 majors, but I highly doubt he can win 5 of the next 10 and break Nicklaus' record. For our sake, I hope he never wins another big one.
