It's far too early to know how it will pan out, but in OTAs Brooks Reed was moved inside and Bryan Braman was working with the starters at OLB. Braman is an animal on special teams, don't see why he can't play linebacker also. If he wins the starting job and Reed joins Cushing inside, that would give the Texans three White starting linebackers plus J. J. Watt. Braman would essentially be replacing Connor Barwin who signed with Philly. And Jared Crick's playing time should increase in his second season.

OLB Bryan Braman ready to be ‘next man up’

Head coach Gary Kubiak has his eyes on third-year outside linebacker Bryan Braman.

The possibility of Brooks Reed moving to inside linebacker leaves a potential starting spot open at outside, and Braman might be the right guy for the job.

“It’s been good,” Kubiak said of Braman’s progress after the second session of OTAs on Tuesday. “Obviously, he’s getting a chance to work with the starters right now. Usually when guys get put in those positions because of Brooks (Reed) moving or whatever, it doesn’t matter, but when guys get put in those situations, you’ll see them flourish and take off. “

Last year, Braman became first player in Texans history to block two punts in a single season, recovering both for touchdowns. The hard-hitting ‘wild man’ was named the Special Teams Player of the Game for the Week 15 win over the Colts. His heroics helped the Texans to an AFC South Division clinching win.

After gaining confidence and another year of experience in 2012, Braman is relishing the opportunity to prove he belongs with the starting front seven.

“I’m ecstatic,” he said. “Obviously some of the reason why they bring you in here, you gotta be ready to step up. They always say it’s ‘next man up,’ and I feel like it’s my time. Hopefully, I can step up and fill the spot.”

Braman believes the key to securing a starting role lies in understanding the Texans’ defensive scheme and giving “110 percent,” which started for him this offseason.

“I’ve been focusing on getting in better shape, making sure that I’m able to get bigger and stronger and obviously staying in my book,” he said. “Just studying and making sure that I’m confident in knowing what I’m supposed to be doing out there for the defense.”

Kubiak will continue to observe Braman and the rest of the defense for the remainder of OTAs, which conclude on June 6.

“It’s interesting to watch him right now,” Kubiak said. “He was good yesterday and I’ll go back and watch him today. Here’s an opportunity to say, ‘Bryan, can you start? Can you be a starter in this league?’ So we’re going to give him a chance throughout OTAs to see how far he can come.”

indeed! i was very excited about Braman's potential last season already, we spoke about him in Texans 2012 thread. he even got some good press, something unheard of for a white defensive player who isn't established yet and coaches seem to like what they see as well

Braman absolutely leveled some foos on special teams last yearlol. Houston is a team to watch I think they can hang with Denver and New England in the AFC they have a young fast defense.

Good find, Don. I remember when Braman violently tackled Marc Mariani without his helmet a few years back and ESPN actually gave him some since nice publicity…

Last season, I remember including his blocked punt/TD against the Colts in my weekly write-up…

Braman strikes me as a future “white enforcer,â€￾ ala Kyle Turley, Logan Mankins, Jack Lambert, and other white players who shatter their “boy scoutâ€￾ Caste.

Thanks for posting that article Don! And thanks for the visuals Thrashen...nice comparisons!

Good to see my Bryan Braman Topic thread(only 1 reply) posted nearly two years ago is not in vain. It was just a matter of time before this tremendous athlete contributes. He has a rare size-speed combo...raw player with insane upside & explosiveness(could high jump nearly 7 feet) from tiny West Texas A&M...a fan favorite with much respect!

Here is a good article how he has overcome a lot prior to the NFL + his legendary athletic accomplishments

Some bad news with a silver lining. TE Owen Daniel will be out 4-6 with a fibula fracture. While that certainly hurts the Texans, the positive news is that both backups are up-and-coming White players. Former Wisconsin Badger Garrett Graham will become the starter and he has huge potential. His backup will be rookie Ryan Griffin who was a standout player at UConn. I hope both of these guys capitalize on their opportunity.

Some DWFs are flipping out in Houston. Matt Schaub may get the full-on hate treatment during the team's next home game.

(KFFL)A source close to law enforcement told a local Houston radio show that police were contacted by the NFL after fans approached Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub at his home and berated him for his recent poor play. No arrests were made. "A fan went to his house and told him off," the source said. The fans left on their own accord before police could respond.

Matt Schaub is a solid starting quarterback. If he was black the fans would love him.

Because he's white and not a hall of famer many of the delusional white fans hate him.

Disgruntled, benched, "supa" safety Ed Reed has been given the heave-ho by the Texans. With guys like this on their D, no wonder they have been struggling. I guess playing deep center-field and hoping for overthrows to turn into interceptions doesn't work so well in the Texans' system.

Oh, from the article, they are looking at bringing in Jawanza Starling from the Giants P squad to take Reed's place. Jawanza? That's as bad as Jatashun from my avatar.

Not only was Reed playing dreadfully this season (16 tackles, or one game of production for Eric Weddle), but the little malcontent also insulted the Texans’ coaching staff (saying the team has been “outcoached” this season), which proved to be the final straw. At 35 years old, Reed is only seven years older than I am, but he looks like a 50 year old homeless Negro...

CAPTION: Reed Radiates Negro "Virility"

Naturally, teams like the Jets are already supposedly fighting for the services of this wildly-overrated, never-tackling, cherry-picking has-been.

I'm surprised that Don hasn't piped in yet. I know that Reed is one of his all-time favorite players to dis.

Football Dad, as you know I've always touted Ed Reed as a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer. Upwards of 40 tackles a season, the ability to stand around 15 yards behind receivers and occasionally look useful by intercepting an overthrow, being healthy for 2 or sometimes even 3 games in a 16 game season, his charismatic use of a language that somewhat resembles English, what's not to admire?

And just to prove that the insanity of the negro-worshipping sports media knows no bounds, there was more than one article that touts Reed as the greatest safety of all time. Sometimes, you read that garbage and just have to laugh it off instead of getting upset.

hahah you guys are killing me with the Ed Reed posts . What a joke he is. The saddest part is that I bet if you were to ask some DWF to name their top 5 safeties TODAY Ed Reed's name would probably come up on the list of at least half of them.

I see derelicts, that you'd be hard pressed to pick Reed out of a lineup from, all the time panhandling in the lovely NYC subways and streets. I'm sure most of them could have been "playmakaz" with "dat upside" like Reed....if only for that crack addiction and case of schizophrenia holding them back.

There's a report that Gary Kubiak was fired today. Although the Texans regressed demographically this season (and dramatically on the field of play), Kubiak was one of the relatively White friendliest head coaches during the past decade. Pre-Kubiak the expansion Texans were a dreadful coal black team. We'll have to see what direction the organization goes post-Kubiak and whether they keep black GM Rick Smith, who drafted J. J. Watt, Cushing, et al.

Yes it seems Kubiak has been given the axe. It's hard to believe how fast this team went backwards. Injuries were part of it but the regression of Matt Schaub was especially disappointing. If I remember correctly the Texans were one player away from a majority White defense last year. That in many ways is more stunning then the offense of the Patriots. Unfortunately it did not last and now is probably done for good.

It all fell apart when they let Kevin Walters go. Actually it seems as if that loss in New England last year during the season let the air out of the team and they weren't the same after that. I remember how hyped we were here at CF for that match up. It probably set a post 1960's record for percentage of White guys on the field when the Pats offense faced the Texans defense. Houston got mauled that game and in their playoff match up.

It's a shame Kubiak was fired. He seemed like a pretty fair coach - the black GM was responsible for blackening that o-line, signing ed reed and the general poor play of the secondary he assembled. I was hoping Kubiak would be given another year and Houston would draft Manziel.

Hopefully Kubiak gets hired somewhere else as he is a noted QB guru. I am not hopeful the Texans will be getting any whiter and will probably end up drafting Bridgewater making them a team I will not cheer for even if they have all those white starts on defense.
