Although the 2013 Broncos are certainly neck-and-neck with New England as the NFL’s most “white friendlyâ€￾ offense (and overall franchise), their current roster only features 24 white players out of 86 total spots (or 28%). A positional breakdown is featured below…

QB: Manning, Osweiler, Dysert
RB: Hester
WR: Welker, Decker
TE: Dreessen, Tamme, Reed
OL: Beadles, Boren, Cornick, Garland, Koppen, Kuper, Walton
DL: Wolfe, Unrein
LB: Bradley
DB: Rasner
ST: Brewer, Colquitt, Doerr, Prater

Compare this to New England’s roster, which currently features 37 white players out of 87 total (or 43%). Also, New England features far more defensive players than Denver, who’ve failed to re-sign LB Mike Mohamed, SS Jim Leonhard, LB Keith Brooking, and DT Justin Bannan in the past two off-seasons…

The thing about Denver is they have such a low percentage of white players but most are starters. The final roster should be quite white, although if any whites are injured they are likely to be replaced by black backups, they are a few injuries away from being very black. I love them for what they did picking up Welker and Welker saying screw you to the pats for undervaluing him, so I want to see them do well.

The pats i'm undecided on, they tried to screw Welker over and thought he would play along, but since then they have brought in quite a few white replacements, including giving Tebow another chance.

The choice of who to root for come November 24th, and possibly in the AFC playoffs, for me will come down to White starters and White skill players. Denver's likely total starters will be Manning, Welker, Decker, Dreessen/Tamme, Beadles, Koppen and Wolfe. That's only 7 starters. If things go really well, Bradley could be starting, an extra White guy takes over on the offensive line and Hester gets some touches on offense. Even then it's simply 8 or 9 starters.

Also, I see DE Ben Garland on the roster. Of course his chances of surviving cuts are the same as Knowshon Moreno winning a sprinting contest.

On the other hand, New England will certainly start Brady, Amendola, Gronk (when healthy), Solder, Mankins, Wendell, Connolly, Vollmer and Ninkovich. Conservatively, 9 starters. Now bump that to 10 if Ballard starts in double tight end sets. Also, Edelman and Gregory will be in positional battles to start so 12 will be the optimistic number. Also, Bequette and Fletcher could be rotational players. I like what Denver is doing since Manning came into town but New England is still the "Castefootball Favorites" in my book.

Freethinker, Ben Garland was moved from DL to offensive guard during the off-season. Though I'd prefer he play defense (since the Broncos have a noticible dearth of white defensive players), it will probably increase his chances of making the 53-man roster. From the Denver Post…

With neither transaction nor announcement, the Broncos added an offensive lineman in recent days. He is Ben Garland, who had been a Broncos' defensive tackle. The former Air Force standout recently had his schedule rearranged so that he is now conditioning and meeting with the Broncos offensive linemen. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Garland will settle in at guard, according to the team. Garland has the agility and quickness needed for the position.

I agree that New England is still the “Caste Football Favorite,” particularly so if Edelman contributes/starts at WR, Ballard assumes Hernandez’s role at TE, and Devin McCoutry is moved back to cornerback as a result of Alfonso Dennard’s impending release (resulting in Gregory starting at safety). As you mentioned, a few injuries to Spikes, Hightower, Mayo, or Chandler Jones could result in Dane Fletcher, AJ Edds, Jeff Tarpinian, or Jake Bequette starting in their place. I’ve also heard talk that DE Trevor Scott (still a free agent) could also be re-signed if defensive depth is needed.

C Dan Koppen, the long-time New England Patriot, tore his ACL and is out for the season. He was the replacement for incumbent starter J. D. Walton who is also out for at least part of the regular season. This could be an ominous development for Peyton Manning, as right now the Broncos have two sumos and an hispanic as the top centers on their depth chart. Manning has always relied on a very brainy center (mainly Jeff Saturday) to keep up with his many calls and audibles at the line of scrimmage and to keep the line on the same page. The lack of a quality center will affect the Denver offense and make it likely that Manning will get hit more often, not what you want to see with a 37 year old.

That O-line is pittiful. I hope Peyton's been doing sprints in the offseason because he's going to need to be mobile.

Denver did recently sign the recently retired Ryan Lilja to play center. Though he's currently listed as the backup he stands a good chance of being the regular season starter.

But on the negative side, TE Julius Thomas has been getting a ton of favorable PR. And with Dreessen and Tamme both nicked up, it wouldn't be surprising if Thomas becomes the starter at some point in 2013.

Our Lads has Hester listed as the starting fullback, so that bumps the number of White starters up to 7. Hester may play a lot if the o-line turns out be as shaky as we fear it may be.

I haven't bought an issue of S.I. in a long time but I am headed to the store to go pick one up. That would make a great poster
or sports picture. Especially if they can win the Super Bowl. I hope they also play Jacob Hester alot. He deserves to run the ball
and not just be a blocking dummy. Go Broncos!

According to the headline of this article, Von Miller is merely having a "complicated" offseason.

Von Miller’s arrest at Denver gun club compounds complicated offseason

On Sunday, Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller was arrested at the Centennial Gun Club for failure to appear on a warrant. Arapahoe County undersheriff Dave Walcher told the Denver Post about the arrest, and the Post obtained records indicating that Miller posted a $1,000 bond in Arapahoe County court the same day. He failed to appear for a court hearing on a charge from last October when he was cited for careless driving, driving without a license and no proof of insurance, and the arrest warrant was issued in January.

“We have been aware of the matter involving Von Miller’s failure to appear in court for traffic violations,†the team said in a statement. “It was reported to the league earlier this week and is being handled through the legal system.â€

Miller has already been in trouble with the league this summer — on July 22, he was given a four-game suspension to start the 2013 season for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policies. According to reports, in 2011, Miller was put in the league’s substance abuse program after testing positive for marijuana, and he also tested positive for an undisclosed amphetamine that same year. Three positive tests can trigger a suspension.

The Broncos have placed Ryan Clady on IR and brought in massive bust Winston Justice to take his place. I was surprised to see that Justice started 12 games last year for the Colts, who jettisoned him anyway.

I found this up-to-date list of remaining free agents. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), it looks like most of the waiver wire tackles follow in that mold of cheeseburger-eating champion.
