NBC is airing an hour long documentary on Jack Nicklaus's win at the 1962 U.S. Open at 2 ET, leading up to the network's coverage of the final round. That was Nicklaus's first major win; he was just 22 at the time and he won it at Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, basically Arnold Palmer's home course. Arnie was the undisputed king of golf at the time so Jack's win signaled his rise as Palmer's challenger and eventual better.

Woods is now +4 after 3 holes. As Flounder said in Animal House: "This is great!"

I wonder how much longer NBC will continue to cover every one of Tiger's shots rather than focusing on the actual contenders.

Beau Hossler makes a great putt on the first hole, and all Johnny Miller can say is, "He played a mediocre hole up till then." Someone ought to grab that mean-spirited old fart by the scruff of the neck and smack him around. I'm disgusted by his bitter antics.

Incredible back-to-back shots by Furyk and McDowell to save par on 12th. It's been a very enjoyable day of golf and we appear to be headed for a heck of a finish.

Another no name newbie wins a major. Web Simpson. It's hard to get excited about these guys as they seem to come and go with little impact. At least he's an american. I would have preferred Furyk or McDowell but it was a great tournament because Tiger faded out of contention. Another Woods failure and this time it was after he went into the weekend leading. I think it's clear whatever edge he had is gone.

Nice to see Webb Simpson win the U.S. Open in only his second try! Seems like a nice man and a good role model for younger White golfers. :thumb:

I've just seen two perfect examples of what I'm talking about. Woods hits an awful drive, way off to the right, but it miraculously falls down, in a smooth area, with a perfect line between the trees. The announcers noted his good luck as if this were somehow surprising. Meanwhile, Furyk hits a drive that is only slightly off the fairway, and it becomes, in the words of the announcers, "buried to the roots."

Yes, Woods is unquestionably a great golfer. But it's just as undeniable that he continues to enjoy incredible luck in terms of bounces and lies. You have to be talented to win, but it certainly is easier when you also happen to be lucky.

If Woods is so lucky, why didn't he win this tournament in which he started out fairly well?

Webb Simpson had a breakout season in 2011. As Col. Reb noted, he is a good role model, openly Christian also. Of course very very few pro golfers aren't good role models.

Jim Furyk ran out of gas at the end. Being 42 undoubtedly factored into it, same with Ernie Els who is the same age. Could turn out to be the last time either will have a good chance at winning a major.

I don't expect any White golfer or golfers to rise up and dominate anywhere close to the way Tiger Woods did. For about 25 years now, after Tom Watson faded, there have been no dominant White golfers with parity being the rule. This U.S. Open was a great example of that with several out of nowhere players being in contention, including a 17 year old and a player ranked 831st in the world coming into it.

Greg Norman came close to dominating but was ill-fated, and Nick Faldo had a nice run for a while. Phil Mickelson has been as good as it gets over the past generation and it will be difficult for any golfer to put together the kind of career Phil has. Woods was a freak, and thankfully his dominance has been over for four years now and counting.

On a final note, Johnny Miller needs to retire from broadcasting golf tournaments. He loves to denigrate golfers for every imperfect shot they make, but he himself was an embarrassment in the booth during this tournament.

On a final note, Johnny Miller needs to retire from broadcasting golf tournaments. He loves to denigrate golfers for every imperfect shot they make, but he himself was an embarrassment in the booth during this tournament.

Naturally, the same year that Tiger rose to prominence (1997) was the very year that Miller retired from golf and became a commentator / analyst for NBC. The sexual temptation for Woods' secret admirer (Johnny Girl) to blather love-sick words of tribute to his crush from the booth must have been too great for Miller to overcome. Through thick and thin, through his imperial reign to his humiliating scandal, Miller has always displayed imperturbable-love for Woods. From constantly “predicting” Woods’ victories early in tournaments, to his ever-glowing praise (which became borderline-psychotic 4-5 years ago) for Woods in the booth, to his unadulterated glee for every Tiger win, to his utter joy whenever Woods’ mud-wrestling, skeletal blonde “wife,” Elin, was show cheering on her black “husband” amongst the Negro-loving rabble. As an analyst, Miller hasn’t known the PGA tour without his ******* God King atop the leaderboard, with his cartoonish name perpetually-present upon the malodorous breath of all the good little Cultural Marxists.

Yes, Don, Johnny Miller is essentially golf’s equivalent of Dan Dierdorf. Both are portly, pumpkin-headed former athletes from decades ago that have transformed themselves into angry, wiggerish, immature, egomaniacal, wildly-critical, malicious, white-abhorring Jew-puppets. And for what? Both were already millionaires when they began their broadcasting careers. Both were respected family men…Miller has six white children (he's Mormon) and Dierdorf had five white children, one of which died as an infant. Diedorf, of course, has hundreds of Negroes to venerate whilst analyzing the NFL (and, as we all well know, he does so with a psycho-sexual zeal), whereas Miller has but one in PGA...and he's gotten significant milage out of that.

Two LameStreamMedia dingle-berries happily clinging to the taint of the Jew-***-Fem Machine…

I'm always glad when my premature, pessimistic predictions don't come true. I need to do this more often, using reverse psychology.

Woods has been a very lucky golfer for most of his career. Of course, he's immensely talented, but he is also very lucky. If you play as poorly as he did the last two rounds, then no amount of luck is going to save you. You still have to hit the ball well, to make the luck mean something.

I really wanted Padric Harrington to win this. It would have been his fourth major, which seems to be the maximum any white golfer wins now. He looked like the next superstar a few years ago, but has virtually disappeared since then. Hopefully, this is a sign that he's returning to form.

But no nitpicking- the main thing is Woods didn't win.
