The Oregon Ducks had 6 whites starting in 2007, 9 in 2008, 10 in 2009,10 in 2010 and 9 last season. They are projected to have 10 this season if Bennett wins the QB competition.

Here are some key reserves to look out for. At WR Justin Hoffman and Will Murphy. On defense DT Issaac Remington, Ryan Hagen, JUCO Transfer Stezon Bair could all make an impact. DE Jared Ebert and Sam Kamp both show up as back-ups for Oregon.

Oregon should be very fun to watch this year. Bennett was really fun to watch last year as he played great in relief of Darron Thomas. I hope this isn't a situation like a couple of years ago where Thomas beat out Nate Costa for the starting QB job. But Bennett is a lot more talented than Costa, and I think he should hold on to the job.

Like Leonardfan said, Oregon has a lot of white D-Line depth, and combined with Alonso and Boyett, Oregon's D should be pretty white this year.

according to the Oregon website, stellar playmaking free safety John Boyett recorded a 3.91 short shuttle and 6.84 three cone drill during on-campus testing. damn! pretty impressive numbers for a safety, and the fastest for any defensive back on the team.

with agility like that and measuring only 5-foot-10, 200-pounds, one "wonders" why Boyett was never considered to play cornerback ...

but as it is, he's certainly one of the elite safeties in the nation. here's hoping for a phenomenal senior campaign for this dominant defensive back.

I'm certain that the coaches and other observers would tell you that Boyett doesn't have "loose hips", which is a magical quality that cannot be measured and is only possessed by melanin-sufficient players.

Kelly has picked Mariota as his starter over the experienced Bennett.

Is there any doubt that Kelly already knew he wanted Mariota in the Spring, but he kept Bennett dangling on the hook to keep him from transferring? This is what Caste coaches do.

That is so bogus - Bennett was better than Thomas last year. The only silver lining is that Bennett was not a Pro QB prospect and Oregon's gimmick offense does not produce pro style QBs. With that said Mariota will hopefully fall flat on his face so Bennett takes over.

Oregon quarterback Bryan Bennett says 'I don't know' when asked if he's leaving Ducks program

Oregon quarterback Bryan Bennett, who lost the starting job Friday to Marcus Mariota, is debating his future with the team.

Sources told The Oregonian that he did not practice with the team Tuesday. Reporters encountered Bennett about 1 p.m. as he prepared to enter the Casanova Center, site of the Ducks' football offices. Asked if he was going to transfer, the redshirt sophomore from Encino, Calif., said "I don't know" and continued walking toward the building. He was reportedly set to meet with head coach Chip Kelly to discuss his future with the team.

Kelly, also on Saturday in his first comments on the quarterback decision, said, "If someone’s disappointed, that’s their problem. You don’t look at it as a disappointment; you look at it as a challenge. That’s the way we’ve always looked at it because, again, it’s competition every day.

Bennett earned the job. Kelly screwed him out of it as well as screwing him out of a transfer. Bennett should leave.

"He would have played a role in our fortunes in the coming years, but in the end, I think it was his desire to play quarterback that led to him to seek an opportunity for more playing time elsewhere. We wish him nothing but success in the future, and he will be missed."
Bennett, who visited Southeastern Louisiana last weekend, was expected to enroll Tuesday, the website reported. He is eligible to play immediately.
Bennett threw for 580 yards and nine touchdowns with three interceptions while backing up Marcus Mariota and Darron Thomas. He also rushed for 365 yards and six touchdowns

he seems like a real nice guy but I think Southeastern is just going to waste his talent. Although I could be wrong, there are some new coaches. Then again, its the Southland conference, if you have real talent it stands out regardless of coaching, like Tommy Connors. They might turn out to be more friendly to Whites than the last regime, they are jizzing in their pants over him choosing Southeastern. I know someone from that school has a contact out in the Pacific Northwest but how the hell did they manage to sell him on that ****hole? SOUTHEASTERN of all places. It surely isn't the town, but of course I am sure they took him to New Orleans during his visit. The good parts.

These sanctions seem to be little more than window dressing, although I must admit I don't remember a big deal being made of the infractions themselves.

As expected, the penalties levied by the COI for Oregon's payment and use of improper scouting services and the use of an extra coach while recruiting do not include a bowl ban of any sort.
Instead, the Ducks will lose a single scholarship over two seasons, the first of which was imposed by the school last year, and be on probation for three seasons, the first of which was self-imposed last year.
The penalties are at best a slap on the wrist for the Oregon football program, and reaction has been mixed across the country as to whether the punishment fits the crime, in part because the Ducks have averaged only 83 scholarship players of the 85 maximum over the last four seasons.
The penalties enforced are very similar to those proposed by Oregon in the summary disposition process late last year, and the biggest difference appears to be an added year of probation tied to Oregon's "repeat violator" status.
"I will say to them that I've not met an institution that wants to go through the infractions and enforcement process," COI member Greg Sankey said on a teleconference Wednesday. "The committee made it's decision based on the information presented to it, not on other speculation and evaluation."
Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens echoed Sankey at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
“No one wants to be in this position," Mullens said. "So I don’t think anybody’s happy. We’re pleased to be at the end of the process.”
In addition to the scholarship reduction, former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly received an 18 month show-cause penalty, meaning that any institution that wishes to hire Kelly over the next 18 months must in essence convince the NCAA to allow it without penalty.
Further, the team can only host 37 official visitors as opposed to 50, and cannot use any paid recruiting services for the next three seasons as well – the first time the NCAA has imposed a ban on the use of recruiting services, according to Sankey.
