Nice job starting this thread, we need more activity in this main forum. Actually, full schedule begins in two days. Two days ago wide receiver Andy Tanner had 4 catches for 75 yards @ Arizona in the Hall of Fame game. He was an undrafted player from Midwestern State in 2010, who probably will have a tough time sticking with a suddenly very caste New Orleans team, but he has a chance, according to some reports due to his impressive play, coupled with some injuries to some the "real athletes".

He was thought to be the token practice squad player since his arrival in New Orleans and with the wide receiver spot crowded, his chances of making it were slim.

However, this season is a different story. With one incumbent gone, Robert Meachem, it left a spot for the others to battle for. Also reports that wide receiver Devery Henderson has seen some inconsistent play in practices opens up another opportunity.

Interim head coach Joe Vitt has said on numerous occasions that no spot is guaranteed and that they will put the best player out on the field to help them win. Excellent news for Tanner as well as others scratching for a roster spot.

From what he’s shown so far in camp, Tanner is running routes very well and is able to put himself into scoring positions on numerous plays. He’s caught the eye of the coaching staff as well as the media.

He stood out in last seasons training camp, I was hoping he would make the 53 but he bounced on and off the practice squad. He looks much better than Lance Moore, Adrian Arrington etc. Devery Henderson was a one trick pony, just a deep threat, thats over with. Tanner should have a good shot at playing this year. After all, Brees is an elite qb and if he accomplished anything it would be because he has an elite qb in the media's minds. Brady, Manning, and Rodgers get to have White receivers and the media can claim the qb makes the receiver, (although Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Marvin Harrison didn't somehow benefit)

So it might be a hard chance to for him to make the squad, but easier since Brees is considered elite. I mean no receiver is considered a lock except Colston. Lance Moore is a slot receiver that offers no yac. Just read that 3 receivers were out with injury today, Henerson, Arrington and Toon (the 4th round pick that was expected to do ig things)

Trent Richardson has been universally hyped by the CM football media as the best running back prospect to be drafted since Adrian Peterson, and now he has a knee issue before even his first preseason game in the NFL.

Trent Richardson will travel to Pensacola (FL) on Thursday to have his left knee examined by Dr. James Andrews. It may be a simple checkup with the surgeon who originally performed Richardson's February 3 knee scope, or there may be more to it. We'll just have to wait and see. Richardson experienced soreness in the surgically repaired knee during recent practices, and the Browns have shut him down for the time being. Fantasy footballers should closely monitor this situation. Montario Hardesty is second on the running back depth chart in Cleveland.

slol, so thats what, 1 good knee between the two backs they drafted in the the first two rounds in the past few years? serves them right for not giving Hillis a contract. They could have gotten Weeden and a better receiver. The Hillis curse still lingers. Maybe why Charles hurt his knee, the Chiefs thought about getting Hillis during the contract dispute and his knee when out, jk.

It was obvious the guy had knee issues, he never carried a big load and had several knee scopes. His teammate Mark Ingram was supposed to be the next Emmit Smith and isn't even the best back on his own team, not even second best. Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory are better but can't stay healthy, Sproles has a different skillset ut can still pass block better.

When was the last time the SEC produced a top back? McFadden is good but can't finish a season so that makes Hillis the best. Besides him, it looks like Tim Tebow has had the 2nd most success on designed run plays.

Edit: I forgot Arian Foster, the UDFA, he has had the most success, but I think Hillis would do much better in that offense. Ben Tate has been a good backup.

A big part of the Richardson hype has been that he'll be a "workhorse back" or a "bellcow," with no evidence to back it up.

When Richardson is being talked about on BSPN or the NFL Network, they always show the same few highlights of him from Alabama. Makes me wonder how many big plays he really had, yet the talk about him being "the best back since Adrian Peterson" has been incessant. I don't watch the games of coal black SEC teams so maybe Richardson is potentially that good, but like Dwid writes, the "Hillis Curse" seems more appropriate so far.

It hasn't been a good week in Cleveland.
One day after a report surfaced claiming cornerback Joe Haden could be suspended, Browns fans had their worst fears realized about running back Trent Richardson's knee.
NFL.com and NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport and The Plain Dealer report Richardson will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee Thursday. The surgery was "tentatively" set when Richardson visited Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday. It is a definite now.

So, since Griffin is the "guaranteed starter", no matter what happens, does that mean that Cousins will get the majority of the preseason snaps? Isn't that how preseason football usually works?:dodgy:

I agree..football is on its way to becoming basketball on grass. The rule changes have tilted the game so much in favor of the passing game. The QB position is easier to play these days IMO.

Woodhead is looking to be back in his 2010 form, it just depends on how McDaniels is, he seems biased toward "his own" players, which means not White.

It wasn't hard to hear the glee with which the annoucers pointed out Tebow on Punt Coverage, though.
