This is a typical reaction, if it turns out to be the case, by Jerry Jones -- point the finger of blame at the White quarterback who's done as well as can be expected when the real problem is the overhyped underachieving affletes who keep dragging the team down year after year.

Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw believes the Cowboys will look for competition for Tony Romo next offseason if he doesn't play at a Pro Bowl level in 2012. Cowlishaw was answering a chat question and is a columnist, not a reporter, but his comments are worth noting. Romo is about to turn 32-years-old and has yet to get an impatient Jerry Jones over the top. Kyle Orton was signed to a three-year deal this offseason, but Cowlishaw is correct in his prognosis that Orton is not a real threat to Romo. Considering that Romo's contract is due to expire after the 2013 season, it's not far-fetched to believe Dallas will target a quarterback early on in next year's draft.

He isn't an elite qb, but there are quite a few teams that would love to scoop him up if they had the chance. Id put him in the mid range, there are teams who don't even have a qb that should be starting in the NFL. If you look at Whites, they last much longer, 32 isn't old. Id say he has at least 4 more years of play without dropping off, maybe 5.

Interesting that this is coming form Jason Garret. Didn't Garret have something to do with Wes Welker making the team in Miami. If I remember correctly, Nick Saban was trying to purge Welker from the team but Garret talked him out of it.

Yeah, it doesn't matter what receiver position he played in college, or his production and measurables. White guys are only slot receivers! Also, I love this quote from Garrett:

"He’s in the mix." Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. "He’s a guy that we like physically; we like him intangibly; he’s got some position versatility and flexibility and we feel like he can be a special teams contributor."

Why of course! He can always be a WSTD!

I haven’t noticed any of the familiar blather concerning Danny Coale that’s usually associated with receivers of European descent. Not much talk about a possession, move the chains type player who will have to make an impact on special teams and so on.

I've noticed that too about Coale. He's getting more respect to this point in the NFL than he ever got at Virginia Tech. Since for reasons I've never quite understood, the Cowboys are a very influential franchise, their drafting of safety Matt Johnson and Danny Coale in back to back rounds can only be seen as quite a change from Jerry Jones' m.o. since buying the team in 1989.

One thing for sure, the appearance of more and more White receivers in the NFL, even if usually only categorized as "Wes Welker type" slot receivers, is a positive. White receivers are more "accepted" now than they've been since the 1970s and White slot receivers are now expected to do well. And 2012 could also see Jordy Nelson, Eric Decker, Brian Hartline, Kevin Walter, and possibly Austin Collie, all starting outside.

Rookie Danny Coale Suffers Foot Injury

Posted by nickeatman at 5/22/2012 2:21 PM CDT on dallascowboys.com
The first day of OTA practices saw a setback from a player looking to compete at the receiver position.

Fifth-round pick Danny Coale suffered a foot injury towards the end of practice. He was seen leaving the Cowboys’ MRI center Tuesday afternoon with a heavy-wrap around his foot and crutches.

The Cowboys were still waiting results of the MRI to figure out his timetable for return.

Whether or not Coale can make it back for the rest of the OTAs, the June 12-14 minicamp or even the start of training camp in late July, any kind of injury at this stage will be a big setback for a rookie trying to work his way into the mix.

Coale has a legitimate chance to compete for one of the primary backup spots at receiver behind starters Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. The Cowboys were hoping Coale could battle with incumbents Kevin Ogletree, Andre Holmes, Raymond Radway and Dwayne Harris for the third, fourth and fifth receiver spots.

Rookie wide receiver Danny Coale is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday to repair a broken bone in his left foot. The fifth-round pick from Virginia Tech suffered the injury on Tuesday at the end of the OTA practice.

Coale’s surgery will make it close for him to return in time for the start of training camp, which begins on July 25 with the rookies and quarterbacks only at Valley Ranch. That would be valuable time for Coale to participate and get extra reps as one of the few rookie receivers.

S Matt Johnson
– The rookie safety is actually still in school at Eastern Washington. With EWU using the quarters system, classes don’t end until mid June. Johnson is expected to miss all of the OTAs but should be here in time for the minicamp.

WR Danny Coale – In his second week after having surgery to repair a broken bone in his left foot, Coale is hopeful to be back on the field for the start of minicamp. That would likely be best-case scenario, especially since the first week of camp is strictly for rookies and quarterbacks. Coale is expected to compete for the third, fourth or fifth-receiver positions.

Matt Johnson - DB - Cowboys

Cowboys signed fourth-round SS Matt Johnson to a four-year contract.

Ineligible to practice until Eastern Washington's classes ended, Johnson took the field Thursday for the first time since rookie minicamp. A big-hitter and playmaker with 17 interceptions and plus athleticism in college, Johnson has a chance to make a run at the starting job if he picks up the playbook quickly.

is it rotoworld??? damn, that blurb must have slipped past their censorship, probably assumed he is black.

Wow, that's something coming from them! That'd be awesome if he could get that starting job!

At a shade under 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, Dallas Cowboys undrafted rookie wide receiver Cole Beasley drew comparisons to New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker during organized team activities and minicamp.
Lombardi: All eyes on Romo
michael_lomardi-110726_65.jpg
When Jerry Jones talked about the Cowboys' window closing, he sent a message to Tony Romo, Michael Lombardi writes. More ...

One would think that being compared to a player who has averaged 110 receptions per season over the past five years, and who is scheduled to earn $9.515 million in base salary this season, would be taken as a compliment by a rookie who received a $1,500 signing bonus in May. But while Beasley appreciates that Welker helped opened the door for him to the NFL, he considers himself to be a bit more versatile than the four-time Pro Bowl selection.
"I get tired of it a little bit because I feel like I have a little bit more speed than Wes Welker does," Beasley said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan’s RAGE radio show (via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News). "He’s got a little bigger frame than me but I feel like I’ve got a little more versatility to my game than he does.
"I do have similarities with him but I feel like I can play a little bit more outside (than Welker does), as well as inside."
Other distinctions between Beasley and Welker are that the latter is guaranteed a spot on an NFL roster this season and has a return specialist background. Beasley might have Welker beat in the confidence department, adding that he would have caught the ball Welker dropped in the fourth quarter of the Patriots' loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.
"Oh yeah,â€￾ Beasley said. "You got to catch that one."

Cowboys QB Tony Romo on WR Dez Bryant: 'I have his back'

Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant was arrested last week after, among other things, pushing his mother and reportedly threatening to kill her. Not exactly the manner in which you want to usher in training camp, which kicks off July 29 for the Cowboys.

But whatever happens to Bryant, the team's No. 1 receiver (at least according to the depth chart) he has the full support of quarterback Tony Romo.

"The one thing I know is that Dez knows I have his back," Romo told ESPN's Ed Werder Friday. "Dez knows I'll be there for him. Dez knows that I'm going to stick up for him."

Romo, who is no stranger to the media spotlight (comparatively benign reasons), cautions against jumping to conclusions in light of Bryant's most recent legal entanglement.

"None of us are directly involved in what's going on in his life," Romo said. "So everyone, the speculation, the articles and things that are written are just people that are guessing. And they're going to have their opinions based on it but no one knows exactly the way that Dez grew up, the way that things have shaped his life and his difficulties."

Fair enough, but given that Bryant has a history of finding trouble (last summer, it got to the point that one-time mentor Deion Sanders threw up his hands and admitted that the Cowboys' wideout "needs help"), it might be in his best interest to avoid any situation that has the slightest possibility of escalating to involve the police.

Romo should take his "own message" to heart.

As for Bryant's latest run-in, Romo was both reflective and realistic.

"Stuff happens and we all wish that certain things wouldn't, and I know that he's going to try to make sure in the future those things don't happen again," Romo said. "But friends and your teammates don't leave you during those moments. They come back and they tell you that we're here for you. Our football team is a close-knit team, and these moments should show that."

Dadgum "Bl0wny H0m0" had best "have the backs" of his OL (who protect his sorry hide) versus that thug who'll certainly run afoul of the law again.

Have any of these situations ever worked out? I can't recall any situations where sports club held a players hand and "life coached" him. The only instance where the guy seemed to turn it around was Bob Probert(hockey player). All the rest the guys skills were in rapid decline and was out of sports within a few seasons and was social road kill within a few years...

From WeenieWorld:

Undrafted rookie WR Cole Beasley has quit the Cowboys for personal reasons.

Beasley turned heads during minicamps and OTAs and didn't embarrass himself to start off camp, so the organization has to be disappointed. They are trying to talk Beasley into coming back. If Beasley simply doesn't want to play the game anymore, the talks will likely be fruitless. He was a UDFA out of SMU.

Would someone please explain to me how a player who has impressed everyone suddenly just decides to quit? Did someone urge him to, because he just didn't have the "right stuff?"

How convenient.

Most likely the same thing that happened to Tyler Shoemaker at TB happened to Beasley at Dallas too...an extremely hostile anti-White thug/gangsta culture. They were both more than likely threatened or made to feel so unwelcome that, no matter how talented they knew they were, it was not a place they wanted to go to on a daily basis to be abused.

It's even tougher on smaller white players like WRs because they can't deal with ******* blacks like a white OL or DL/LB can(size wise).

Also, with many teams there are lots of white O-lineman, and often they are considered the leaders of the O-line units. There are of course only a few cases where white WR's could find strength in numbers (the Colts a few years ago, the Patriots sporadically). I wonder about Beasley's experience at SMU. There, even at a somewhat white friendly school (by Texas/South standards) he was probably in a white minority among the WR's.

I just Googled this guy and there have been a bunch of positive (glowing?) articles about his play heading into preseason games. The fact that the Caste Cowboys are fervently attempting to talk an undrafted white WR only "listed" at 5' 8" into not leaving the team tells a lot. In this Cowboys.com article from 3 days ago, it seemed like he was resolute about making the team and coaches were thrilled to have him.

P.S. Checkout what some chump DWF, who's likely 43 years old (screen name danfoutsbeard69) wrote at Pro Football Talk. He's scared of white WR's, because they might take the place of the "real athletes". Even though the Chargers record has plummeted as their roster has gotten much darker since 2007, we find out the real problem is they are too white...Also, I wonder how many hrs. per day danfoutsbeard(19)69 and his butt-buddy (polarbear71) spend checking out interracial gay porn sites, looking for nude photos of their ebony heroes? By the way, if he's gonna mention Walters, why doesn't he mentioned Danny Amendola, who was cut by Dallas after have a sparkling pre-season just a few years ago?

Well said polarbear71, the Wes Welker comparison is thrown around so easily. Last season the Chargers wasted a roster spot on Bryan Walters cause he was compared to Welker, he did show some of it during the preseason, and the Chargers cut Welker originally as an UFA. They kept Walters instead of Laurent Robinson only to cut him after he flamed out. We saw what Robinson did with the Cowboys(usually against the 3rd CB since Austin and Bryant are the 1 & 2 options). The Chargers could of used him when Malcolm Floyd was injured, I hope no teams make the same mistake of keeping a crappy receiver just cause hes fast, short, and white in hopes of finding the next Wes Welker.

do you have the link to where they said that? Yeah Amendola is a perfect way to shut him up. He has been the most consistent receiver for the Rams. People are acting like his size is small at 175, which is what DeSean Jackson weighs at a few inches taller, so less muscle.

I will laugh when theyh see that Robinson's production was a fluke. He got 5 seasons to prove himself and still never cracked 1k but is treated like an elite receiver because he might have scored a bunch of fantasy points.

By the way it should. be mentioned during those 5 years, 2 were with the Rams, where he couldn't beat out Amendola in 09 and 10. White receivers usually don't have the luxury of taking so long to perform or suck during practice, but blacks can make a few good plays and kept on the roster, getting paid for nothing really. Every team has a guy. The Saints have Adrian Arrington who is supposedly going to break out any year now, all based on one great game he had against Florida in 2007, the dbs were good but freshman and made many mistakes that year which is why UF lost a few games during Tebow's Heisman season.

Jaguars | Want more from Laurent Robinson : Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey has not been impressed with WR Laurent Robinson early on in training camp. Mularkey wants Robinson to make more plays in practice

Impressive start by a "real receiver". Matt Jones had had less than 100 yards receiving in his 4th year, playing 12 games, he had to make the switch to wr and had a crappy qb, dink and dunk.

Also, I wonder if it has occured to them that their tight end Jason Witten led the team in receiving yards.

I also what are the odds of a White receiver having one great season playing in FCS (1400 yards) and then less than 900 the other two, managing to get drafted in the 3rd round, allowed 5 years to develop (he did bounce around but apparently there was still "upside"), have one good season, less than 900 yards but 11 tds and then wind up getting a 32 million dollar contract for that with another team....

I would love to make those dwfs look stupid.

I hope Cole comes back because he has a shot, they are weak at wr.
