Your welcome. I'm enjoying the meet so far. Remember that the majority of the men and women running in the preliminary rounds of the 100 are the slowest competetors. Tommorow morning the big stars like Christophe Lemaitre will be running for the first time in the second round. They get to skip the first round. I was sad to see Steve Hooker of Australia not qualify for the pole vault. He just had a tough year with injuries. I was happy to see Nick Symonds win his opening heat in the 800 meters. We still have 5 more opening rounds left. Then the final two events of the moring session will be the shot put and the mens 100.

Christophe won his opening heat running a time of 10.14 into a negative 1.0 wind. What an impressive performance. He won by a good margin over Justin Gatlin! Very impressive indeed. Rytis, Niit and Kuc are still to come in the final heats.

Sakalauskas early dip cost him a semis place by mere thousandths. A better than .187 reaction would have seen him make it. Hope it is a learning experience for him - two areas for improvement.
On the other hand Angel Rodriguez got through.

I wasnt very impressed with Makusha, Kim Collins or Carter or Frater. Look out for Walter Dix. He might challenge Lemaitre for a medal.

By the way, I just saw an article about the drug testing, and it turns out that the blood tests are merely VOLUNTARY at the World Champs. So much for a level playing field. It will still be Christophe v. the roiders, after all.

What good is voluntary blood testing? What a joke. Give the athletes a chance and most will decline the offer.

Back to track. I'm very anxious to see one of my favorite sprinters, Ivet Lalova. It would be wonderful if she could shock some people and make the medal stand. We are less than a half hour away from the womens 100 meters heats. She is a beauty and damn can she run!

Well, the two Borlees both looked extremely impressive in their 400 heats. However, we can't seem to escape the drug issue. Convicted cheat LaShawn Merritt, looking bulked up and lean like a bodybuilder and sporting the biggest biceps in the field, ran a world best. Guys like him and Mullings are just shameless. They can't stop, even after being caught and serving suspensions. The only person with a chance of beating a roided up Merritt is the young Grenadan, who looks clean. The Borlees both look great, though, and it should come as no surprise if one of them turns up on the medal stand.

Incidentally, in yesterday's 800 heats, Symmonds and Borzakovski (mispelled) looked superb. The much-ballyhooed Sudanese-American Charles Jock was eliminated.

Yes indeed trackster. I enjoyed watching the 800 and the 400 heats today are also very fun. Despite Wariner and Gillick both being out with injuries, we had Rooney, Borlee Twins, and Oscar Pistorius. Not sure if the young russian made it by he ran a new p.b.

I'm ready for the womens 100! This should be fun!

Damn. Ivet Lalova looked great on and off the track. She won her heat in a very nice time of 11.10! I'm hoping that she will marry Simone Collio someday in the future and that they have many beautiful babies together. I only wish I were him. Haha. I really think she has a good chance of pushing for a possible medal. Jeter and Brown are virtually unbeatable but the bronze is up for grabs.

I think the energy crisis could be solved by shearing the hair off of Jeter..... She will be tough to beat, same with Stewart and Fraser-Price.

Jeter is Flo-Jo light, there's no doubt in my mind she's dirty. In fact, the great majority of the big-name US sprinters are roided up. Some are cheaters who have been caught/convicted, such as Gatlin, Rodgers, and Merritt. Then you got the likes of Jeter and Oliver with his comic-book deltoids, it should be obvious to anyone that they're on something. The only one who's clean in my opinion is Alysson Felix, who's had the same lean build from day one.

WL, where's Verena Sailer? I did not see her in the women's 100m heats. I hope Lalova can challenge for a medal, but I'm afraid the top 4 is already set. (Jeter, Pryce, Brown, Stewart).

My future wife(Verena Sailer) is out with an injury. Such a shame because she was really starting to come into her own last summer. I was so happy to see her win gold at the Euro Champs. Hopefully she will come back in a big way next year. Sailer like Lalova is gifted with very good speed and incredible looks. Don't give up on Lalova just yet. She has a great start and she is a competitor. Let's see how the semifinals go. Maybe one of the juicer ladies will false start. That would be nice.

my fear came true. Rodriguez and Kuc ran as men well beaten. So often the case...you don't boast sub 10.20s and run 10.50 in a big meet and come away with any credibility

But Blake went for it and 9.92(-1.4) was a great performance. I reckon Bolt knew he had to pull out all stops to be clear of Blake after the semis and ...............

Collins performed above expectations all the way through the meet, just pipped by Dix.
Lemaitre poor run, a full 3 metres down. A tenth worse than I think he was capable of in these conditions. Overstriding and battling away. 4th is better than was expected by most, but everyone's placings were a bit hollow.

I'm very proud of Christophe. Despite him finishing 4th, he still made us proud. Running out of lane 8 is probably what did him in. Lanes 1 and 8 are the worst lanes to be in. We should all still be happy for him. He finished 2nd to Bolt in the semi finals. The thing that kills me is how he got horrible starts in the semis and the finals. That is what kept him from a medal. If the race had gone a few more meters, he is on the medal stand.

He has to be crushed. Oh so close to a bronze medal but he finished as the 4th fastest man in the world. Pretty incredible for a 21 year old. Yes we all wanted more as did Christophe. Let's just be happy though that he did acheive his lower goal of making the final and finishing in the top 5 in the world. Way to go Christophe! Keep your head up. There will be medals in your future for sure!:smiley:

Congrats to CL for his 4th place finish! We still have another 5-10 years to see CL medal (hopefully in the Olympics) many times and I have NO doubt that he will!
