Rice should be a better ball club in 2011. Taylor McHargue will be the starting QB and Sam McGuffie looks to have a breakout year. Rice looks to start 15 whites in 2011 w\many more getting playing time.

Rice has built their program the right way, lets hope they canget some wins this year and make a bowl game.

QB 16 Taylor McHargue 6-1 215 So

WR-Z

WR-A

89 Vance McDonald 6-5 260 Jr. *Former TE will be a focal point in the passing game.

Rice's white starter history is as follows, 2005 14, 2006 8, 2007 10,
2008 11, 2009 10, 2010 12. Those are real solid numbers for a team in the border south area. I also like how Rice achieved its 15 starters for this year, with only 3 whites on the o-line, and white players scattered throughout the positions outside of CB.

Any clue what they are going to do with Eddington? I hope he doesn't cut into Sam's carries. I hear they are calling Sam a slot receiver/runningback after the spring game. Last year Eddington ran the wildcat but this spring Taylor really showed skills as a passer so I don't think they are going to run that. Its hard to tell from the spring game though, the BOOSTERS called the plays and the quarterbacks weren't allowed to audible. Hopefully whoever is in charge realizes that Sam is a threat to hit a homerun every play. I think his ypc would go up if he got more carries. Eddington had one big play and fans on the message boards seem to be talking about his potential.

Cook the qb from last year converted to wide receiver and could potentially start as well.

Snow it looks like the job is McGuffie's. Sam has gotten noticeably bigger and has maintained that raw athleticism.

I hope Rice's O-Line can establish themselves so McGuffie will have some huge holes to run through. Rice will be a fun team to watch with all their big receivers(McDonald, Wilson, Kitchens, and Gillette). Solomon has potential to go pro and I hope he has a stellar year to help Rice out and his own draft stock. He had 10.5 sacks 2 years ago. Travis Bradshaw is a tackling machine! Heading into this year he is 9th all time on Rice's tackling list(286!!).

RB Andy Erickson will be returning kicks for the Owls! Rice has a ton on Caucassian playmakers, I hope they can mesh and pull out a few surprise wins.

I would love to see Rice upset Purdue and Baylor!

This looks to be a Rice team worth watching and rooting for if they can get their act together (including coaching).

Rice will be playing against a lot of mostly black teams like Southern Miss, Baylor, Memphis, Marshall and Houston. Hopefully they can teach some lessons to these other coaches about the benefits of a team that "looks more like America".

Andy Erickson will NOT be returning kicks for Rice this year. He has transferred to Texas State and Coach Bailiff has still not given him his release. Off. lineman Cade Shaw has also transferred to Texas A&M Kingsville. Look for more transfers in the future.

Coach Bailiff hasn't granted the release yet so I'm wondering if he will try and talk Erickson into returning to the team? You have any info on why he and others from the team are transferring? I wonder if it has anything to do with Rice switching him from RB to WR..

Travis Bradshaw suffers career-ending injury

The starting free-safety, and best defensive player IMO for the Owls, Travis Bradshaw suffered an undisclosed injury that effectively ends his career. Here's more from the Houston news source.

With Bradshaw gone, the new starter according to the Owls official website is afflete Xavier Webb, so Rice is now reduced to 14 white starters.

That is sad news, FootballDad. We don't need to lose any White starters in college football, especially DBs.

Damn tough loss for Bradshaw. Do you think he will be granted a medical redshirt so that he will be able to play in 2012?

From what I've read, Bradshaw has had a series of concussions and stingers over the years. My guess is that he had another bad concussion, or they detected something in his upper spinal column (perhaps a narrowing) and advised him to stop playing.

He's not playing anymore. The article said Bradshaw's injury was career ending.

Lol that's what I get for just skimming through the page.. Really is unfortunate for Travis he would have broken Rice's all time tackle record this year..

The Toronto Blue Jays Jays have reached an agreement with N.F.L. prospect Luke Willson, but the talented Rice tight end says he's leaning towards playing pro football.

DE Scott Solomon has 8.5 sacks on the year and 24 career sacks! We all know Vinny Curry of Marshall will get drafted and it will be a reach. As for Solomon and his damned white skin, he might not even get a combine invite and will most likely have to go the UDFA route..

Wow....just wow....we all had such great expectations for McGuffie. He goes from being the leading freshman rusher in Michigan history.....starting in the Big House as an 18 year old freshman to this....2 carries for four yards in the Rice spring game. I guess he never got over the concussions...what a shame.

2 carries in a spring game is nothing to worry about, he will probably still have a big role in the offense. However they will probably be moving him more to a slot wr/rb, a Percy Harvin role. He hasn't had concussion problems for a while, its been other nagging injuries, and for some reason, he just doesn't have the vision/patience to run on traditional plays. He can do the zone read, jet sweep, thats about it. Im just hoping he can be healthy by the time the regular season comes by and is able to put up 1k from scrimmage, probably half receiving half rushing.
