So someone agrees with me and thinks that JayConn can do it. I hope so but he hasn't been in good form. I think he will do it this summer but he has to turn things around quick. Hoping for the best. He is a very explosive starter and he has good speed endurance. Hopefully it is just a matter of time.

Marek Niit from Arkansas just came in second place in 200m with a time of 20.38 but it's supposedly not wind legal.

Marek Niit takes 2nd place in the 200 meter national finals in a time of 20.38! Thiswould have been a new national record but there was too much wind. The winner ran away with the race though at 19.99! I was hoping for a little faster time out of Marek but to finish that high is still outstanding. I also need to give props to Brandon Byram who finished in 4th place. So our guys too 2 of the top 4 fastest 200 meters college sprinters in the U.S.

Arkansas' 4 x 400m team came in 5th place in the finals running an all white team - Ben Skidmore, Marek Niit, Travis Southard, and Neil Braddy.
Great showing!

Speaking of 4 by 400's, I've got to give some love to Supergirl, America's sweetheart, the cutie-who-can-scootie, Laura Roesler. She couldn't win it for Oregon's relay, but she nevertheless ran a 51.45 anchor. Now, bear in mind 1) an anchor actually runs more than 400 meters, because of where they get the baton, and 2) she's not a 400 runner! She's an 800 runner. She has simply got to have the best sprint speed of any 800 runner out there. Next year, she's going to put it all together and become the Robbie Andrews of the women's side.

Oregon's Laura Roesler is a beautiful young women! Her legs look strong, and, correct me if I'm wrong, but she needs to use her upper-body more to propel herself more strongly, right? I'm speaking of the 4x400 race that I watched, and she was the last leg. Oregon came in 3rd.

No, she couldn't really compete against the very large A&M African right now, I realize that.. that's not what I'm critiquing.

Well, it was tough, running against that gentleman from A and M...

The only two runners who clocked faster legs were both 400 national champions, I believe. Beard, the man, er, runner who ran her down is both a 400 champ and a senior. Laura smoked every other runner (and we have splits for all of the final two legs), even though she is only a freshman--and an 800 runner.

Jeremy Wariner won the Diamond League 400m in NY today (barely) - 45.13.
Not a great time for Wariner, but still beat solid competition.
Let's hope he can get back into true Wariner form soon.

By the way, blade runner, Oscar Pistorius from S. Africa came in 5th ahead of Kevin Borlee in 45.69.
Borlee ran 45.86.

Apparently Ivet Lalova is Simone Collio's girlfriend right now.
Maybe bad news for you, but good news for the rest of us.

This article talks about Jonathan Borlee's training and future plans (possibly switching to the 800). Imagine if the Borlees had to be added to all those young 800 runners--Andrews, Loxsom, Primm, Martin, Greer, Adam Kszczot, Martijn Scheepers, Johann Rogestedt, Austin Mudd, and Wheating. Every one of those guys has gold medal potential:

Unfortunately, the move would thin out the 400 ranks at a time when Wariner has become just another runner, and none of the young guys (Gehret, Braddy) have made the step to the next level. Steve Solomon is the best hope now.

The move from the 400m to 800m has almost never been done successfully.
I don't why it is talked about so much among track fans.
Borlee should know better.
This guy is on the brink of sub 45, and the 400m is a weak event right now.
He should stay where he is.

Only a few men( Courtney,Juanto and Everett) have had any success doing it as far as I know. It looks easy but body types, stamina and tactics come into play.

I agree that it would be a bad move for Borlee. I also don't think Christophe Lemaitre should ever give up the 100 no matter how many fast guys are out there. He is far too young and too talented to even consider it.

On another note. It seems like no one is impressed by Dariusz Kuc of Poland running a 10.18 and a 10.15 in the same day last weekend! That doesn't happen everyday unless your Lemaitre or Guliyev. We need to give this guy some props and keep a close eye on him. He ran a 10.17 as a 19 year old and then never reached his potential. Maybe now at 25 his body is finally maturing enough to allow him to run fast again. I'm very excited to see what he does the rest of the summer. Any other comments on Kuc from you guys?

I'm surprised by Kuc's performance. He ran 10.3s just a 2 wks ago.
And it seems like every year, he has one good performance, while all his other races are 10.3 or more.
So I am cautiously optimistic.
I hope this performance is indicative of what is to come for the rest of the season, and not just a one-off.

Hes only 25. Its weird how guys like Kuc and Shane Crawford kind of vanish for 3 years after promising starts and then come back. Im glad they havent pulled a shirvington though injuries did kill the guy.

I was very very happy for Shane, but then 2 wks later at the NCAA trials, he ran something like 10.4?.
It's weird.
And we may have seen the last of him now that his collegiate career is over.
At least he got in one sub-10.20. I'm happy for that.
So let's see what Kuc comes up with in his next race.

For sure. Shane wasn't a particularly special college runner. It would be absurd for him to go pro. We follow a lot of mediocre runners at the lower levels. It's fun to cheer for them, but they can't all go to the Olympics. In fact, a lot of the professionals we follow are only professionals because they have the good fortune of not being a citizen of the US, Jamaica, or Kenya.

I hope Kuc has a wonderful season. It's just that he hasn't delivered since we first mentioned him. To make matters less than certain (IMO) he ran these times in Poland so I'll wait for something a little more "international" in flavour.

It brings to mind Woronin's much touted 10.00 timed in his home city with a 2mps following wind. Nothing else he did approached 10.10 and each time I actually saw him live he seemed to post 10.40s/50s.

I want to see Darius run consistent sub 10.20s if he is to spark my imagination.

Another breakthrough to report. Just days after Lukas Verzbicas's thrilling four minute mile (only the second runner to do so since the 1960s), England's Charlie Grice ran the metric equivalent. 3:42.86 at the Woodside Grand Prix.

I've mentioned Grice before but now he is simply exploding onto the scene.

Van Zyl's jackpot will add to family herd
South African 400m hurdles record holder LJ van Zyl says he will use his prize money from the domestic athletics season to buy cattle for his family.

Van Zyl, the leading one-lap hurdler in the world this year, received a R200 000 cheque from sponsors Yellow Pages on Wednesday for setting a national record of 47.66 seconds in Pretoria in February.

"I plan on using the money to pay off my home bond and to buy some cows for my father's farm in Malteno [in the Eastern Cape]," Van Zyl said.

From what I've read, both of the Borlee Brothers are staying at 400 meters through the olympics. They only plan to move up in 2013 if they don't have descent success at their normal distance.

An article entitled "Bulgarian Sprinter Ivet Lalova Shows Great Form." You can say that again! I haven't seen a double entendre like that, since Walter Dix's victory over Tyson Gay inspired the legendary headline, "Tired Gay Succumbs to Dix." (Somehow that never gets old). The Lalova article is short, but the photo is well worth the visit. One cannot help but think that when she says that Novi Sad is "too beautiful and too hot" she could be referring to herself:
