A very nice 2nd and 3rd finish in the 100 meters finals of the European Under 23 Champs today! Michael Tummi(Italy) and Andrew Robertson(England) took the silver and bronze medals running into a very strong head wind! Tummi only lost by 2/100ths of a second. He just might be the next star of Italian Sprinting. He had the fastest times throughout and just missed out on a gold medal. Glad to see Robertson continue to improve.

Kszczot won the 800 meters gold medal for Poland. This kid is the real deal. Here is an article.

tummi and matteo galvan train together, tummi did well too at the italian champs (2nd i think, maybe third)
i think the future will be bright for italy in the sprints, cerutti and colio can retire, no problem

The future is looking good for Italy. Tummi looked fantastic despite a poor start in the final. Had the race gone another few meters, he would have won. Here is the site to watch all of these races. I was expecting Talbot to run away with this event but he hasn't even won a heat yet. He might just be saving himself for something special in the final though. Tsakonos of Greece has been outstanding running the fastest time in the semis with a 20.56! I have also been impressed with Pavel Maslak who is the hometown favorite. He also break his p.b. already and he has done it while coasting over the last 10-20 meters. He is only 20 years of age and a very bright prospect. Then you have Linnik of Bulgaria who is a very tall, gifted sprinter. I'm anxious to see the finals of the mens and the womens looks equally entertaining! We have alot of young sprinter to follow in the coming years! Exciting times indeed!

Those are actually the results from the final. The Greek won, and in a pretty snappy time for such a bad wind. He's younger than Alaka, too.

Happy to see him win. Still haven't seen the race yet but I'm going to go watch it right now. That link I posted above shows all of the races.

I also happy to see 20 year old Maslak take the bronze medal! We have some talent on the rise in the 200 meters!

Here's an impressive stat. Double amputee Oscar "the blade runner" Pistorius ran, I think, a 45.04 yesterday. That's faster than the best Borlee time for the year. Having seen him run, I know that Oscar always has to accomplish these times despite incredibly slow starts. Here's the race. Even his competitors were overjoyed for him:

In the meanwhile, Morgan Uceny remains UNDEFEATED in Europe. After winning the US championships, she has dominated the Diamond League 1500s, and yesterday she won a very, very fast 800 in Italy. Uceny is a physical marvel, and, unless she has peaked too soon, I don't think there's anyone who can beat her any more. I just hope she can stay at this level through the Worlds:

Outrageous 5000m race in Monaco. Track fans were salivating to see what Solinski and Rupp could do against the world best. They never found out. Instead, the ******* Merga, already notorious for pushing at the Pre-Fontaine, apparently knocked both of them out of the race. The video kept cutting away, but the announcers said Rupp had fallen hard and then Solinski was shoved into the infield where there were a bunch of bushes to get tangled in. Of course, there were only bushes in one area, so it's as if Merga had timed his attack. Unreal. Absolutely infuriating.

Pleasant surprises from the Russian championships:

Savinova set a world lead in the women's 800.

Anastasiya Kapachinskaya set a world lead in the women's 400, well ahead of the ballyhooed Alyson Felix.

Marcell Deak-Nagy of Hungary broke his own National Jr. record yesterday, this time dipping under the 46 seconds, to 45.74.
Looks like he may be a contender in years to come.

Marcell Deak-Nagy, the 19 yr old youngster from Hungary, won the gold medal at the University Games in China. His time was 45.50.
This guy is going to join the Borlees as the top 400m runners in Europe.

Well, this wasn't a great season for us, but it as heck just ended with a BANG. Galen Rupp just massacred the AMERICAN RECORD in the 10,000m. Yeah! 26.48!!!! And here I thought the season was over already...

Galen Rupp is incredible. There is so much depth in american mid and distance running now. Exciting times. Now if we could only get some of our people to get involved in the sprints.
