In addition to Danny Talbot, Andrew Robertson ran a 10.31 for England this last weekend. Craig Pickering ran a 10.15 but it was heavily wind aided. Still good to see him healthy and running.

JC doesn't have anyone to push him in that race. Given the way he's run so far this year, he should have been bumped into the main event. On the plus side, though, maybe JC can drag Christian Blum to a great time. This is looking like a fun meet, and if I have some down time, I may try to watch it on Universal.

You may try. Come on trackster. You need to watch it. You might just see JayConn suprise everyone. I'm not sure if he will do it tommorow but I believe it will happen soon in the summer season. I want to see Christophe break his p.b. but even that is a 50/50 shot at best. The middle distance races should be fun too.

Some notes from the Rome event:

1) THey didn't show the other 100, but Jay Conn won in, I think, 10.31. He had no one to push him to a better time. Blum finished mid-pack at a dreadful 10.62. That's not even a decent high school time in the US (Joe Fisher, for example, would smoke him).

2) The 400 hurdles was a fun event. Van Zyl and David Greene went 1-2.

3) LeMaitre really hung in there with Bolt and Powell, and along with those guys separated himself from the rest of the field, which was very world class. The times weren't incredible, but it was still an impressive competitive performance.

Results from Hengelo:

Pickering improved a little to 10.23 in heats, but then finished last in the finals, 10.38 against so-so competition. It was a glass half full/empty kind of day.

Meanwhile, Kszczot, the young Pole, won the 800, beating Lalang and many others in a high quality field--a huge win.

I'm not too worried about his second race. Craig doesn't have his legs under him yet as he is far from being fit due to the serious back injury. I'm just glad to see him running. Give him another month or two and he should be running a little faster as long as he remains healthy.

Van Zyl does it again today in Ostravaequaling hisp.b. and national record of 47.66! Wow that is an incredible time. He has to be among the favorites for the gold in the 400 Hurdles.Edited by: white lightning

Results from Ostrava:

1) As noted, Van Zyl continues to dominate, and the fact that he equaled his national record is significant, as he earlier ran it at altitude and today at sea level.
2) Connaughton 20.65 in the 200.
3) Jordan Boase a close third in the 400 at 45.34.
4) Jeff Risely ran a world leading 2:16.75 in the 1000m. He's the Aussie 1500m star who has been showing well since he started running races in the US and now Europe this year.
5) Adam Kszczot, the young Polish 800 runner who recently scored a huge international upset win, finished just a hair behind Risely in 2:16.99

Meanwhile, in the Ukraine Ramil Guliyev was a DNS in the 200.

Thanks for posting the results. A few you missed. Jared Connaughton also ran in the 100 shortly after in the B Race and ran a 10.37 so I'm guessing he is regressing. I had heard he suffered a injury a few weeks ago but haven't been able to confirm it. He seems like he is not running right. I seriously doubt he peaked in April. He has been sprinting too long to make a mistake like that so the injury could be true and he is trying to run through it.

Ramil Guliyev ran a 20.85 in the heats and then did not show in the final. Probably trying to be safe or at least I hope so. He had 3 races in 2 days and probably was a little sore due to his body not being accustomed to being in full race shape yet. Not too worried about this.

Pickering ran 3 races if you include the semi final and finals from two days ago and the finals today. So his 10.31 isn't the end of the world. He was clearly fatigued and had a horrible start.

Boase looked good. Glad to see him out there in the mix.

Jeff Risely is a stud. I love watching him run and now I will also keep an eye on Kszczot.

E. DeGregorio ran a 10.22 wind legal a couple of days ago so he is off to a great start. I wonder if Fabio Cerutti will ever return to form. Collio and Cerutti better get busy if they are going to have any chance of looking descent for the world champs.Edited by: white lightning

Just wanted to alert everyone that there's a great meet this Saturday, the Prefontaine, and it will be broadcast on NBC. Notably:

110 hurdles: Andy Turner and Liu Xiang take on bloated roider David Oliver.

400: Jeremy Wariner, hopefully recovered from his leg injury, runs, along with Kevin Borlee, and the blade runner, Oscar Pitorius. They have stiff competition.

800: Could be another doozy. Nick Symmonds and possibly Andrew Wheating against a stacked field including world #2 Kaki. Tyler Mulder and Lachlan Renshaw also run.

Bowerman Mile: The big news would be if Wheating ran. Otherwise, pull for Nick Willis against a deep, talented field of Kenyans and Ethiopians. Russell Brown is probably outclassed. Personally, I'd prefer to see Wheating here than in the 800.

International Mile: Hopefully, Gregson proves he's recovered from his injuries and takes it against this tough field. Will Lee, Evan Jager, and others will also be running.

2 mile: this field is so unbelievably stacked that they plan on having it paced for a world record. I'll be excited to watch Galen Rupp and Matt Tegenkamp, as well as Britain's Chris Thompson, and Australia's Collis Birmingham. Stay with the Kenyans, guys! Also, young Lukas Verzbicas is running. He won't win, but he'll be shooting for the high school record.

10K: Rupp is also listed in the 10K. Not sure which he'll run.

This could be a great meet.

Thanks for the heads up my friend. I am really looking forward to this meet. Even though I prefer the sprints(former sprinter), I love track and field period. I also have really started to enjoy the 800 and 1500 alot more along with the mile. America finally has some serious talent and it just keeps getting better. It seems like Alan Webb inspired the current movement despite him not reaching the levels we had hoped for. I still hope he can turn it around some day too. Webb reminds me of Pickering as injuries have killed his confidence. I still hope for the best for both of them.

Andy Turner has already run a 13.28 which is a good time for this early in the season. Coming off his 110 meter hurdles gold at the Euro Champs should give him confidence to break his p.b. this year. Liu Xiang is also a pleasure to watch and I loved seeing him win a few weeks ago against the ped David Oliver.

NIck Symmonds also runs good at home along with Wheating. Let's see some fireworks.

Some overlooked news from this season -
Hannes Dreyer of South Africa ran a 10.17 with 2.1w in South African back in March.
He has since run wind legal times of 10.27 and 10.28.
He has also run 20.86 and 20.88 (-1.8w) for 200m.

Alexander Menkov, 20 yrs old from Russia, jumped 8.16m last week in Africa.
Jordan Boase ran 45.65 at the same meet.

jacknyc or wl or mastermulti can you answer me a question? Why do athletes especially sprinters from South Africa and Australia always post great early season times and then just fade when world competitions come around in August? Is it the early season? I remember Morne Nagel running a 10.15 100 meters years ago in March or April and then just vanished.

Because they are in the southern hemisphere, they peak at during the end of their summer, which is March.
March is the equivalent of our September.
It's a bit of a curse for them that they peak at the time the rest of the world is just getting started.
By the way, Morne Nagel is now Hannes Dreyer's coach.Edited by: jacknyc

yep, wot 'e sed (as spoken in a David Beckham accent)!

our guys have to post qualifiers and compete in our national championships during our athletic season which ends in late March. There is a small window of opportunity which allows them to go overseas to chase the qualifiers but that is expensive and disruptive.Generally they need to run the times here in March.

I wouldn't think our current crop of sprinters would be encouraged to go overseas to try to qualify (we don't have anyone outstanding at present). Rouge-Serrett isn't bad but a hardly championship final contender

Thanks guys. I dont know if this is important but if you go to the 2009-2010 indoor track results Morne Nagel is actually listed as running something like a 6.68 60 meters. I thought he had retired years ago. Its nice to see him running again despite the marginal time.

Dafne Schippers from the Netherlands ran 22.90 last week while competing in the hepthalon.
That is a fantastic time.
I think she's been mentioned here before.
She's an outstanding sprinter and jumper, and all around athlete.
She is 18 yrs. old, turning 19 soon.

Update on the Pre-Fontaine:

Looks like Rupp is out of the 2 mile and into (Friday's) 10K. Chris Solinsky also appears to be switching to the 10k. Look for the US record to go down. And if one of these guys actually wins the race it would be huge.

Wheating seems to be leaning 800, rather than Bowerman mile. Personally, I think he's picking the wrong distance, but we'll see.

5th fastest time in Europe.
She's not just a good heptathlete sprinter; she's a very good sprinter period!
