Brennan Boesch had 5 hits, 2 of them HRs and 5 RBI! Andy Dirks added a HR, as Detroit knocked-off the Texas Rangers.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Mariners, 3-1. Paul Konerko hit his 13th HR. The AL Central is getting interesting.

I can't find the ESPN article referenced here, but I really don't care to read what ESPN thinks about the situation, anyway.
Ozzie Guillen's son tweeted his annoyance that the White Sox drafted an 'afflete' instead of a baseball player. I guess the Latinos recognize the existence of a caste system, too. When it's working against them...

Jim Northrup an outfielder for some good 1960 era Detroit Tiger teams passed way a couple of days ago. I was a big fan of his as a kid, you know the old fashioned kind of kid fan, collected his cards, copied his batting stance, wanted to play center field like him, got his autograph, that outdated stuff.

In the detroit news on-line papers article about his passing there was a link to a series of you-tube interviews with him from a couple of yers ago. He was an old irascible SOB, grumpy, and he ignored most of the questions that the interviewer asked him.

But the guy asking questions kept going on and on about what was it like to play in Detroit in 1967-68 with all of the "race" stuff going on. Typical MSM crap, they have to cover the "holy" moments of the collapse of America. I know what the guy was shopping for as an answer. Either a complete surrender to PC with some remarks about the poor oppressed blacks or even better an ill-timed honest remark about what pieces of sh*t those black rioters were. To his credit Northrup ignored answering the questions each time, either from well learned caution or lucky Alzheimer confusion.

Anyway I'm thnkful for Jim Northrup, his triple in game 7 of the 1968 World Series was the key hit in the defeat of Bob Gibson. If Gibson had won that game it would have been 3 game seven World Series wins and about 9 straight victories in post season play. The hype for that ill tempered gas bag (Gibson) would be even more then it is now, they probably would have re-named the Cy Young Award after him. RIP Jimmy!

For the White Sox, Sergio Santos nearly blew another save, but luckily he didn't, and Phil Humber got his 6th win.

Jon Lester got his 9th win and Atlanta's Tommy Hanson got his 8th W.

I well remember Jim Northrup and the Detroit Tigers of that era.

The Cards are in a 3 game slump, getting swept by the Brewers and losing the division lead. I hope it doesn't continue.

The Brewers have been playing out of their minds. The Cards' pitchers had some bad performances at the same time.
Holliday returns Thursday. McClellan comes off the 15-day DL on Wednesday. Tony knows how to manage the marathon. The Cards will be alright.

I remember Jim Northrup too. RIP TheTigers had a lot of really good White players during that era.

The media's great black hope early last season, Jason Heyward, was hitting just .214 with apuny 14 RBIs in 140 at bats before going on the DL in May. Heyward declared that he wasn't going to play again until his injured shoulder had "completely recovered," which led Chipper Jones to say, "There are a bunch of his teammates that are out there playing with discomfort and not healthy."

Teams pull non-white players out of line-ups to keep them from looking as bad as they are,two good examples in Pittsburgh are,Pitcher James MacDonald,or "J-Mac"as he is lovingly called by announcers, and Pedro Alvarez, third baseman, proudly called "El-Toro"in the broadcast booth.

Paul Konerko has been a full-on beast.. what amazing production thus far!! He could make a push toward 40 HRs.

Back to Jim Northrup for a moment. I live in farm country, where, among other things, I see signs for test plots for seeds (DeKalb, etc.) and various duPont pesticides in season. Well, another seed maker is Northrup King. Whenever I see a NK test plot, I think of Jim Northrup. :) RIP, Jim.

Jose Reyes is having a classic contract year for the Mets. Obviously, as soon as he gets a big contract from whoever gives him the money, he'll go right back into his lazy ways. He may be hispanic, but he's still black.

Brian McCann is incredible, and way-better than his opponent in the upcoming All-Star game, that being Russell Martin.. representing the AL.

The worship for the Yankees' is utterly abhorrent, and it will distort the "All-Star game!"

Yesterday, Whites were very good offensively. McCann hit his 16th HR. Jim Thome hit a HR, and is now 4 away from his 600th.

Boesch hit his 13th HR. Berkman hit his 25th HR. Jeff Francoeur is still playing solidly.

I can't wait to see Big Jim hit number 600, who will be the first and only White slugger to reach that mark since Babe Ruth. Unlike McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero, and Bonds, no one has ever accused Thome of juicing.

I was just watching the Braves-Reds game and Bobby V criticized Jason Heyward's mechanics and approach at the plate. Gosh, from what I heard about the "Say Jay Kid" last year, I thought it was guaranteed that he was going to be at least as good as Willie Mays.

--J.J. Hardy is having a nice season.

--Josh Willingham continues to play well, especially considering that he's on the Oakland quagmire..

--Hunter Pence has been fantastic since arriving in Philly.

--Joey Votto has been hitting more HRs lately (compared to earlier in the season).

no kidding, with the SI cover and much praise, this overhyped/oft injured scrub is looking like a affirmative action hire.

Unheralded Freddie Freeman is having a better rookie year than Heyward did last year for the Braves. Yet he receives none of the hype. It will be interesting to compare these two players careers moving forward.

Good day for Whites yesterday!

Josh Willingham hit HR #21 to save the A's.

Brian McCann, off the DL, hit HR #20 yesterday. Congrats to this exceptional player.

Joey Votto continued his HR-binge, hitting #21 in a Cinci win.

Casey McGehee had 3 hits and 2 RBI, as Milwaukee continues to steamroll through the NL Central. They have been clicking WITHOUT (one-trick pony) Ricky Weeks, who has been on the DL, thus making Milwaukee a much more watchable and enjoyable team/story of 2011. They also have Zack Greinke who has been clicking lately.

Josh Hamilton hit #16 in a win, as Texas maintains a solid division lead over the Angels! In the postseason, I think Texas could knock-out some of the "big boys" again.. Go Texas!
