White Dominated Defense

After 11 games, the Houston Texans have 35 sacks. Out of that total, 23 or 66% (2/3) of the team sacks, have come from White players. Connor Barwin (8.5), Brooks Reed (6), J.J. Watt (4.5), Brian Cushing (3) & Shaun Cody (1) make up, what is an amazing total in the modern caste NFL. Since Mario Williams' injury, it has been a virtual White-out in the sacks department on a week to week basis.

Almost all media coverage of the Texans defense starts off with an announcer declaring in starry-eyed wonder, "And they're doing it without Mario Williams." Rookie Brooks Reed is easily out-producing what Williams was doing before he got hurt. Houston's is the most enjoyable defense for me to watch in a long time.

If the Rams had a good offense, instead of loading up on lousy sumos on the line and going through an unbelievably long line of mediocre receivers who keep getting hurt even more often than do their cornerbacks, they also would have one of the best defenses in the league, but they are forced to stay on the field too long because of the poor offense. Losing Amendola was a big blow, and their highly drafted black rookie TE who looked good in preseason games has been a bust.

It's now confirmed that Leinart is done for the season. Hopefully Yates can be good enough for the Texans to make a run in the playoffs.

The Texans have confirmed that Matt Leinart's injury is a broken collarbone, and that he will undergo season-ending surgery.



Coach Gary Kubiak said Leinart should go under-the-knife some time in the next week. The news at least temporarily begins the T.J. Yates era in Houston, though Kubiak confirmed the Texans will sign another veteran to back up Yates and Kellen Clemens. Sage Rosenfels, who is still under contract with the Dolphins, is the most likely candidate. Yates should start in Week 13 after keeping his head above water in yesterday's win, but there are likely no guarantees beyond this week. Yates is not a fantasy option in two-QB leagues.

The Texans became the latest team to cut Derrick Mason, and according to the NFL Network they are calling up Jeff Maehle from the PS to take his place.

If Maehl in fact gets the call that at least partially makes up for Briesel going down for at least a few weeks.

I was going to make a post last night about the possibility of Maehl being called up. Unfortunately the Texans just signed Jacoby Jones to a contract. (Jones got $10.5 million for 3 years. Almost comparable to Jordy Nelsons $13.3 for 3 years.)

I think Yates has a good shot at being a successful starter. Depending on how he performs he might have a shot at the starting job. He had to put up with all of Uncle Butch's corrupt doings at UNC and still performed quite well.

It would be great if Schaub got "recycled" like Green and Bledsoe and gave another team a competent good white QB.

Jack, thanks for posting those numbers about Houston. I'm glad they are as White as they are and I hope they, and other teams, will soon follow in once again allowing a majority White roster, and a starting 22 that is at least half White. Keep hope alive!

Remember, that Yates was also booed at a Tar Heel's basketball game when they showed him on the big screen. So he's been hated for awhile. It would be nice to see him succeed.

I'll give Texans GM Rick Smith (black) credit for not being as rabidly pro black as most GMS in the league (although he still operates with the typical NFL affirmative action/ quotas mantra to some degree). His drafting/ signing white ballers like Kevin Walter, Jeff Maehl, James Casey, J.J Watt, Connor Barwin, Brooks Reed and Brian Cushing along with drafting/signing talented black players like Arian Foster, Ben Tate, Andre Johnson, Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Johnathan Joseph has paid off. It would be nice if the Texans or one of the few other fairer teams in the league would bring in Cory McCaffrey/ Joe Martinek this draft year to compete for a starting job as a scatback/ Powerback- H-back (in the case of the Texans it would probably be for depth at first, with how well the rushing attack is going currently).

The Texans look like what a lot of teams looked like in the 1980's. Whites more evenly balanced throughout the field, on offense and defense, but blacks still dominant in the running back position, but white contributors as WR and tight end.

Here's a priceless example of the NFL's Caste System at work. Undersized and slow, yet was drafted in the second round in 2011 at a position Whites have been forbidden to play. From Weenieworld:

Texans CB Brandon Harris struggled to get on the field as a rookie due to a "lack of speed." Harris had no role in Houston's secondary, and coaches felt he didn't run downfield fast enough to contribute on kick and punt coverage. Undersized with a 4.53 forty time, Harris probably won't be viewed as future starter by the Texans. He may get a chance to play behind Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, and nickel back Brice McCain in 2012, replacing free agent Jason Allen.

Good news for Brooks Reed

The franchise tag deadline came and went Monday, and the Texans opted against using their tag on former No. 1 overall pick Mario Williams. This means one of the league's premier pass rushers likely will hit the open market when free agency begins March 13. Where will Williams end up in 2012?

Texans informed RT Eric Winston of his release.

The shocking move clears $5.5 million in base salary. Winston hasn't missed a start since his 2006 rookie season, and has been a key cog in the Texans' highly productive zone-blocking scheme. Despite the release, Winston won't have trouble exceeding what the Texans were going to pay him on an incredibly thin offensive tackle market. Only 28 years old, Winston should appeal to other zone-blocking clubs like the Redskins. Pro Football Focus graded Winston as a top-six right tackle last season. He was 11th overall in PFF's rankings.

Williams might sign with the Bills. Supposedly Buffalo has the most cap room for a signing. I know it's professional football but why would have a player want to leave a team that is on the cusp of being a potential league champion. Also the Bills are quite a few pieces away from being a league champion.
