The Montana Grizzlies are playing this Friday against highly-ranked Northern Iowa at 8 pm eastern time. Game is on ESPN or ESPN2 and ESPN3 on the 'net. Should be a good game. The Griz are really back to form this year with a really tough D and excellent O. It's really fun to watch them run the ball with 3 really good RB's. One is an Asian kid out of Washington. Another is a white kid, highly rated, big bruiser, fast, out of CA (I think), and a black kid named Canada. All are really good and compliment each other. Each have been given plenty of business this year which makes me very happy. My favorite is the white kid because he really punishes the D as he piles up the yards. The white QB is out of OR and has really blossomed this year. Quick, elusive, great runner and passer. Does not take a sack--throws the ball away before the defenders can tackle him for a big loss. Accurate passer and can really scoot when he has to. He's taken 10 sacks or less this year so far. Smart, too. The defense is anchored by a linebacker named McSurdy. He's a real beast and rattles the fillings of all his victims. The D also has a black corner who is slated to go really high in the upcoming NFL draft--1st or 2nd round. He's only got 1 interception this year, but that's because no one wants to throw in his direction. The last several games, the Griz D has completely shut down the opposing O with great play.

And once again, the Griz have managed to recruit a fabulous punter/kicker. This guy calmly boots 50 yard field goals and routinely traps the other team inside the 10 yard line with his rugby style punts. He can also boom traditional punts as well. Kid can get a 1st down as well if they need him to run on a faked punt or kick. Griz special teams are out of this world with him on the team. Name is McNight, and you're likely to see him on Sunday in the next year or to. That makes at least 2 kids on this year's crop of Griz that will likely be playing in the NFL.

The upcoming game is in Missoula. It will be cold, and a night game to boot. This will highly favor the Griz as N. Iowa plays many of their games in a dome. The Griz destroyed Montana State a few weeks ago on a cold wintry day, and I believe the tough Northern kids on the Griz handled the icy weather much better than all the Texans playing on the MSU bobcat team. Just my theory. Look for another really good game by the Griz as they seem to be peeking at the right time.

I've been told by my brother that the Griz are the most successful (most wins) NCAA men's football team from 1980 to the present. If you want a friendly team to cheer for, the Griz are IT.

Go Griz!!

qj,

Good FCS post. I will keep an eye on Montana!

I watched part of the Wofford, N. Iowa game and was disappointed Wofford self-destructed in the 4th quarter.

I think Montana will beat N. Iowa.

Thanks.

Watched just a little of the N. Iowa game. The Panthers kicked off and the W. guy caught the ball in the endzone and went into total dummy mode. He didn't take a knee and just walked around in the endzone with his head up his arse. Panther player grabs the ball away from the W. player and scores a Touchdown! Ha Ha!! But hey, that dummy return guy is mega "affletic."

The beyond dumb mistake by the W. return guy proved to be the difference in the game.

According to the 2010 Census:
State of Iowa = 2.9% Black

Accoding to their team website:
Northern Iowa football roster = 48% Black

Sounds like some Iowa high schoolers are being seriously discriminated against by this Public institution of higher learning.

Riddlewire,

I agree! As I am becoming involved in the recruiting process in my state, I will be asking questions about these kinds of statistics!

Montana 21, N.Iowa 10 Halftime.

Well, the Griz really mauled the Panthers tonight. The Northern Iowa team has relied heavily on its QB's legs and his affleticism. Griz D really corralled and then shut him down tonight. The Panther QB did not even make it through the whole game and limped off the field for good in utter defeat in the middle of the 4th quarter. Once again, the Griz completely shut down the opposing O in the 2nd half, and McKnight's lights out punting had them bottled up inside the 10 yard line on multiple occasions, just like I thought he would. Meanwhile, the Griz O was pumping on all 8 cylinders again with the fabulous QB Johnson taking the lead. I actually thought he ran better and was much shiftier than the opposing, highly rated QB. Johnson is also a much, much better passer and can actually carry the team with his arm. However, the Griz running game is also dominating. Dominating defense, good passing game and killer running attack. Man, the Griz really have an excellent chance of winning it all this year.

Tomorrow, the Montana State Bobcats will be taking on undefeated Sam Houston State down in the big state of Texas. Should be a really good game because the Bobcats have several imports from Texas, and these kids surely will be playing all out in front of their friends and family. I'm not such a big MSU fan, but they do have a fair number of Montana kids on their team, including some kids who grew in the same area I used live in my younger days in rural Montana. It's fun to hear their names every so often in the course of a game. The Bobcats also have a real stud of a running back named Kirk. He's a big white kid who really punishes the opposition and can really run. "Just give the ball to Kirk!" is a very good strategy. MSU has a black QB, and I think he's really good, too. Has a good arm and is accurate. He's as cool as a cucumber and runs really well, too. However, I do think Johnson of the Griz is better at this point as Johnson has really blossomed this year. I really don't know much about Sam Houston State other than they are undefeated. The Bearkats may be undefeated, but I'm pretty sure the Big Sky teams are better than the teams Sam Houston have played this year. So, it would not surprise me in the least that the Bobcats really take out the Bearkats tomorrow. We'll see. The game starts at 12:00 eastern on BSPN.

If the Bobcats win, the Griz will get to play them next week at home in Missoula, so "Let's go Bobcats!"

Watched the MSU game a bit at the gym "athletic" qb overthrew every pass and Kirk had one good run out of three. Kirk just before the half made a mistake in the last drive that was very basic, he did not take it to the sideline with a stiff arm. Good run in second half, they finally put a tackle back in the FB position and he threw a good block and Kirk threw a great stiff arm. Other than that I noticed the qb sailing the ball and the only catches were ones by the number 1 receiver who IMO will be a pick for Sunday.

Bearkats looked really good and ran all over the Bobcats. The MSU QB, McGhee, looked pretty awful, and he seemed to key in on MSU's #1 (black) receiver. McGhee clearly has regressed from last year while Johnson from the Griz has become much better. Kirk didn't do much as well. But, it looked like the Bearkats were simply much better that the Bobcats. Looks like the Griz will have their hands full next Fri-Sat as they have to play the Bearkats down in Texas. I think they are both fairly evenly matched. As such, I'd have to give Sam Houston the edge as they are at home. Really liked the Bearkats, and some white players made really big contributions to win the game. White guy ran back a kickoff to really put a dagger into the heart of the Bobcats. White QB from the Bearkats had a long touchdown run and a white receiver had a nice touchdown catch. So, it looked like the Bearkats were much friendlier to white players than the Bobcats, so I did not mind seeing them win today, although I wish the Griz could play at home next weekend. The Bobcats, on the other hand, seem to be much more adherent to the caste system.

The "Historically Black Colleges & Universities" have their own bowl game.

They also have their own All Star game.
And I'm looking forward to it.

I can't wait to see these two bruthas face off against each other in the HBCU All Star Bowl this Saturday.
