2011 College Football Team Write-Ups

Hey Everyone,

Its getting close to that time of the year. The last few years we have had a solid contribution from several posters covering all the Division 1A teams and some from the lower levels.

Lets make this the thread where we all decide on which teams we will cover.

One thing to remember is that the closer to season the more accurate the projections are. I'm wondering if we should hold off until July or August, when the season is almost upon us.

Good point. I had to edit the projections multiple times for almost all of the teams I did. There were huge changes.

Having worked on these since the summer of '05, I've learned that the publications we use to list probable starters are usually off by 1 or 2 compared to who is on the field during the actual season, even if it is the team website. To be the most accurate with our write-ups, it would be best to wait until the season starts to do them. Being patient enough to wait until that time to do them makes that problematic since many of us are huge fans of the game and want to post whenever we want to. Another problem with waiting, the way we currently do them, is the time it takes to get all 120 team previews completed. That is dependent on how many of us do previews and how many we do. If we had 8 men previewing 15 teams each (a very optimistic estimate), it would take less than 10 hours of research for each man. If this was the case, we could do them all inside of two weeks, easy.

Seeing as how we are spread out all over creation and have different ideas about which teams we want to do and when we want to do them, this isn't workable, imho. Some people who say (in May) that they are going to preview a team wait until September to do it, and some people who post previews don't look at threads like these or forget which team someone said they would do and as a result we get duplicate threads. I personally think the best way to do it is to not post about which teams you are going to research, just research them and then post the preview. If we get duplicates, the moderators can delete the second one. That's just my take on it though. There isn't a perfect way to do this, but each year we manage to get it done and I'm glad to see more and more posters helping each year. That makes it much more fun for all of us.

I didn't mean to jump the gun, I usually wait until the two publications are released sometime in June and work off those. I know we have started around this time in the past.

I already got Indiana and Minnesota, celtic. You can do Minnesota though, I don't really care, but I'd still like to do Indiana.

I think I'll wait to do my previews yet, until more of them come out. I updated the starters in my previews a ton last year since I did them so early, but I may start soon.Edited by: Jack Lambert

What is everyone using to do the write ups? I saw the athlon sports college football preview on the news stands today, I usually buy that and phil steele's college preview together along with checking team depth charts. I hope to start working on my write ups in the next few days.

Those mags are useful, along with the college football news website. As we get closer to the season, some teams will post info on their websites too. I used to use a combo of all three when I was doing most of them by myself.
