The one problem I have with Favre is, when one of the black starters got hurt in the game at outside wr, Don Beebe went in and had like 220 yards receiving on 11 catches. The black guy returned and then Beebe returned to being a situational slot receiver that didn't see the field as much. Favre should have lobbied for more playing time for Beebe. He got a few more targets but not as much as he should have gotten. He would have probably had well over 1,000 yards that season if he had the same role the entire season as he did in that one game.

Yes, that was a Monday Night Game** when Beebe went wild. Instead of that being a launching pad for Don to finally become a starter, Green Bay soonbrought in the "troubled' Andre Rison from Jacksonville after week 10and Favre openly praised Rison up-and-down and targetedhim much more than Beebe -- who soonbecame an afterthought and retired the next season because Favre made him so irrelevant.

This is in contrast to Troy Aikman, who I like much more than Favre. I remember how hard Aikman tried to get owner Jerry Jones to sign a young, unkown kid named Patrick Jeffers. Aikman told the media he thought Jeffers could not only play well for Dallas, but start. He would also always tell Madden and Summerall that he wished Caste-Clown Switzer would eventually "turn loose the Moose"....He meant actually giving his all-pro fullback, who came into the league as a power-tailback, more carries. I don't remember Favre ever suggesting a athletic freak like Travis Jervey should get more time at tailback. Perhaps I'm wrong, as that was a while back?

Overall, my biggest beef against Favre was when he flopped on the field in order to give Mark Gastineau's coveted sack record toMike Strahan, who is beloved by the media, but is reportedly just a miserable person -- treats everyone around him like garbage, particularly after rumors surfaced that he had a gay lover in Hollywood. That Favre dive against the Giants still tugs at me as classless and clueless.

Jeffers was already on the Cowboys and went to Carolina as a restricted free agent after the '98 season, where he blew up the second half of '99 with the Panthers, having perhaps the best run of games by a WR in NFL history. The next summer, Jeffers had his knee blown out on a meaningless 3 yard route in a preseason game by racist Steelers CB Chad Scott (don't know if it was deliberate but it was definitely fishy). Steve Buerlein, who had a career year in '99 with Carolina, was promptly consigned to the bench the next season, and the other part of the Panthers' White Triumverate in '99, TE Wesley Walls, was injured and held to 31 catches in '00.

Aikman did urge the Cowboys tore-sign Jeffers, as he flashed his considerable talent in limited use in '98, but it's not suprising Jerry Jones, being one of the primesupporters of the Caste System,let him leave.

As far as QBs lobbying for players to receive playing time, do we really know what Brett Favre (or any other QB for that matter) might or might not have said to his coaching staff? If a quarterback doesn't come out and make public proclamations about players, does that therefore mean he may never have done so in private, where it should be done?Favre obviously didn't lobby against Bill Schroeder and Schroeder had the best three season run of any White receiver of the past 25 years except for Ed McCaffrey and Wes Welker. And anywayis it part of the job description of quarterbacks tolobby forpersonnel decisions? I think most coaches and GMs would disagree.

Don Beebe should have been a starter with Buffalo, where he spent most of his career. Attributing the fact that he didn't start in Green Bay -- when Caste zealot Mike Holmgren was the almighty head coach -- to Brett Favre is really stretching it. Edited by: Don Wassall

It was like old times tonight for the Texans, with Matt Schaub being continually flattened rather than David Carr. It was disappointing to see them go with three sumos, and on top of it letting thecement-footedDuane Brown get beat all game without giving him any help. Meantime, Jon Gruden kept predicting imminent big plays by Mario Williams, but the Colts' o-line was far superior to Houston's when it came to pass protection.

Also, is Michael Hart taller than Woodhead? He looks pretty short, yet not one reference to his size from the announcers. Comparing that with the non-stop references to Woodhead's size, we can see the double standards.

Hart is small, and so is Donald Brown. They both look like midgets compared to Manning and the offensive linemen. Anyway, both were injured during the game, joining their fellow "superior athlete" Joseph Addaiin the league's huge infirmary. Brown's been injured almost constantly since he was drafted in the first round in '09. The Colts were reduced to running Edgerrin James' cousin by the end of the game. Peyton Hillis at present has 460 yards rushed in 7 games (9 more games left). It's gonna be close, whether he reaches 1,000 yards rushed or not won't hurt since he's already the NFL first designated white RB in ages. 900+ yards is already a huge stepping stone for him, but 1,000 will be icing on the cake. He's only 24, and a force to reckon with. Keep it up, Hillis!

Hillis just has to average 65 yards a game to make it there. With this bye week he should be 100 percent healthy, so hoping for a few 150 yard games to make sure he goes well over the mark.

Besides Moss, the talk this week is all about Shanahan's decision to bench Grossman in the last two minutes of the game. The bigger story should be; did the starting left tackle do a purposeful o'la on Kyle Vandenbosh resulting in a sack of Grossman and fumble. I looked on the game highlights and it looks like the brotha at left tackle purposefully released Vandenbosh and we all know why he might have done it.

Kaptain Poop, I didn't see the game, but that'd be par for the course, letting the defender sack the White guy. Won't help though McNaab is done. If you saw it, so did the coaches.

very disappointing MNF. no catches for Walter, he's been relegated to number 3 receiver, 1 catch for Owen, no cathces for Blair or David Anderson... Colts are not as much fun without Collie and Clark!

To me, the key Caste breaking story line this season will be Hillis's chase for 1000 yards. He is on a solid pace to do it, especially as we head into inclimate fall and winter weather.
Only issue is that because the Browns are not likely to threat for a playoff spot, they may go more "experimental" and get away from their game strengths: grind out running game, some play action pass, defense, keep it simple, etc.

We'll see. Although I have faith in Mangini because I think deep down inside he is a fan of Peyton Hillis and wants him to succeed. Of course, this will benefit him too. I hope Mangini is a pragmatist the rest of the year and does not cave to the brothas subtle complaining and worse, Caste God Holmgrem from upstairs.

If Peyton continues his pace and then they take him out in the 4th quarters of close games or if he hardly gets any carries in December, then we know the jig is on.

Either way, Hillis is opening doors and his best years are ahead of him.

Woodhead too is going to make some big waves as the Pats look to push for the Super Bowl. Casual fans and caste twirps will no doubt know who Danny Woodhead is by January.

Other then this, it is time for Colts to start Blair White and stop f'n around. Clark and Collie are out, Garcon is way too flakey and Wayne loves to bitch all the time (yes Wayne is still starting material though).
Colts play 3 WR sets all the time. Manning needs to start Blair White. Yes, Manning. Manning runs the team and is basically the coach of the offense. Everyone knows this.

Hey, maybe he can call Matt Jones or John Matthews. You think?

I saw on Rotoworld this morning that Walter is now the No. 3 receiver. I was pretty pissed about it but many of us knew it would eventually happen.

Well said. I apologize for my continuous denigration of Favre's off-field character flaws. I realize that this website really isn't the proper outlet.

As for MNF"¦the Colts are unexciting without the ultra-dynamic combination of Collie and Clark. At least Pat Angerer was finally moved outside and Tamme was successful in his first start.

Kevin Walter's production with the Texans has always been tremendously inconsistent. Most games, his statistical shortcomings are a result of Schaub's constant targeting of Andre Johnson. As Jimmy said, that wasn't necessarily the case against the Colts.

The MNF game, despite being having a relatively high potential for white receiving greatness, was actually pretty boring.

One thing I noticed is that Gruden called Kevin Walter "Mike Walter" several times. Yet neither of the other announcers dared correct him. Hell maybe they didn't know whiteys name as well? Another thing is that Schaub did NOT give Walter any catchable balls. He was either skipping balls in or inaccurate everytime he looked Kevin's way.

We'll see if Walter has been demoted behind Jacoby Jones or not. Rotoworld (and other media writers and outlets) have been proclaiming Jones the starter ahead of Walter since Jones was a rookie and he's now in his fourth season. Schaub and Walter just missed hooking up a few times, but it wasn't like Jones did anything of note in the game. Walter's all-around game is solid in every area while Jones is a typical black receiver, flashy but undependable. It was just a bad passing performance by the Texans, thanks to Schaub havingno time to throw most of the time.

Seems like Deion Branch isn't pulling that extra db away from Welker in the backfield like Moss used to. He'sdone basically nothing since Randy left town. I wonder what Belichick's eventually gonna do to address that?

Welker is tied for 7th in the AFC with 40 catches, which pro-rates out to a season total of 91. A bit of a down year for Wes, but stillgreat production for just about any other receiver in the league, especially considering the serious knee injury he came back from so quickly. By next season he should be back at or near his perch as the league leader in receptions.

Other leaders -- Collie is still 5th in the AFC in receptions; in the NFC Amendola is tied for 4th (with 45), Witten is 8th, and Cooley is 9th.

Mariani is 4th in kickoff returns in the AFC and 5th in punt returns. Leonhard is 3rd among punt returners, Nick Miller is 8th. Amendola is 6th among NFC punt returners and Camarillo is 10th.

A healthier Hillis should get back among the AFC rushing leaders coming off the bye. It's a shame Collie went down for a while, but this season is seeingthe best mixture of White runners, receivers and kick returners the NFL hashad in a while. Still a very very long way to go to approach even a modicum of fairness, but a definite uptick in the right direction to go along with more White linebackers and more White safeties this season.
