Jenny Meadows really ran a nice race. Despite her size and injuries over the last few years, she won another medal. England has some really great athletes and they are having a very nice Euro Champs along with Russia and France as well.

What a 1500 Final. The spanish took 2 of the 3 medals with Germany getting the silver. It was very exciting. Happy to see the the home crowd see a few of their athletes win. They have not performed as good as what they had expected.

A rough comparison, but the African championships were (a) the finals (only ran once the day of the finals, not twice like in Europe), and (b) were run with a favorable wind (not negative, like in Europe):

Russian men serve in their late teens for about 2 years. A lot of them get out of it though with bribes or by showing that they have 'flat feet' (again, through a bribe, but this time to the doctor!).

Perhaps the Russian men don't believe in themselves as they have so few role models, whilst the women have been successful for so long that young female Russians believe in their abilities and go for it.

I want to say that considering the sports facilites in Russia (they are generally of a very low standard), the country sure pumps out a large number of elite athletes :)

This Euro championshis is great. Even better would be a Europe vs Africa head to head competition ;) (except long distances!)

poor old Craig topped off a sh*tty season with botched relay run. Mark Lewis Francis was to blame but to his credit he admitted it like a man and in the interview he apologised to Craig and Leon Baptiste who'd been waiting around for this event. Very sad day for all of them.

The upside was the French qualification with Lemaitre's training partner Personneaux running the 3rd leg

Now to watch Merlene at 50 running for Slovenia. I saw her interviewed last night and it was strange hearing her eastern european accent.

Oh no! German girls stuff the last change and are OUT. Sailer didn't even get the batton.

Slovenia finished 6th but Ottey didn't lose much ground really. I wish I'd run 11.67 at 50.

I couldn't believe how fast the 19 year old Russian finished the 400 yesterday. If the race was one metre longer he would have had the silver.

Remember this name......Vladimir Krasnov.....here's the next european record holder

Now the Brit girls stuff it up too... the poms are cursed

Dammit, that is a bummer with the German girls botching the relay. With the British men doing the same, France is now in prime position to win the men's 4x100, so CLM should earn gold #3. What a week it has been!Edited by: foobar75

I can't believe the interview with the GB Women. Laura Turner said she can't run a 10.9 because she is caucasian. If I heard that right, I just lost alot of respect for her. What a dumb thing to say. She blew it in the 100 finals. Not because she is white but because she wasn't mentally and physically prepared. Verena Sailer will go sub 11. Turner is a joke if she doesn't even believe in her mind that she can run faster.

she said I couldn't catch them ... I'm not a 10.9 runner

Unfortunately she's not a real 11.11 runner either. A good day that day, but a 11.30-11.40 sprinter I think Edited by: mastermulti

I heard her say she wasn't a 10.9 runner because she is caucasian. I'm 99% sure she said that. I agree she is not a 10.90's runner at the moment but you should never limit yourself. Who knows how fast she could run in the future? Even Sailer went faster than most people expected yesterday. She will still go faster in my opinion since she is only 24 years or age. I have always liked Laura Turner. The 4 x 100 Womens Relay was screwed up by bad baton changes. It wasn't Turners fault because she had too much ground to make up. The other girls were the reason they didn't qualify. That being said, I just didn't like her interview.

One thing that separates Lemaitre from so many other white sprinters is his supreme confidence. He believes he can do anything. No time or world record is out of reach. He has the youthful swagger that more white sprinters need. You have to believe before you acheive. I hate to say it but I'm not sure if Laura Turner still believes in her self. I hope I'm wrong.Edited by: white lightning

and now we have the required picture of the black father and White mother of Jessica Ennis ... it took longer than i expected to get it in, but they managed to find the time "somehow." *puke*

Interesting... I saw her some time ago, probably over a year ago, and I don't recall thinking that she was a negro.

Looking at her eyes/eye-brows, and realizing the significant levels of UK miscegenation, I did think that she might have been a mix... but more of the Middle Eastern variety. I mean, it's not exactly unheard of for a White man to be with an Arab woman, or even an Indian or Sri Lankan woman.

The family hope Jessica will also soon marry 25-year-old Andy Hill, her boyfriend of five years.

Ennis and her boyfriend Andy, a construction site manager, have just bought their first house. Andy is three years her elder, and though they were at school together, they never really spoke. "He says he used to see me running from school building to school building, timing myself,"Â￾ she cackles. "Honestly, I never did that."Â￾

Anyone know if this "Andy Hill" is a Whitey or something else?? I have a bad feeling...

Championship record for Antyukh in the women's 400 hurdles.
With an awesome display of hurdling on Friday, Russia's Natalya Antyukh galloped away from the field to lift European gold with the second fastest time in the world this year of 52.92, also a championship record.

"I'm shocked by myself,"Â￾ said the champion. "What a result! Incredible and unbelievable! Just a year ago I changed from 400m to the hurdles."Â￾

Firova leads Russian sweep in women's 400-meter final
Tatyana Firova made history in Barcelona's Olympic stadium on Friday evening, leading a Russian sweep of the medals in the women's 400mfor the first time ever at a European Athletics Championships.

Turner keeps his cool to land title in the 110-hurdles.
Great Britain's Andy Turner profited from a costly error at the seventh hurdle by Petr Svoboda on Fridayto strike 110m hurdles gold and better his finishing position by two places from the 2006 championships in Gothenburg.

We should give full credit to Turner, though, for keeping his cool amid the tension to land a richly title in 13.28 after many years of hard work on the circuit without previous reward.

in addition to recapping the race, the Lemaitre story answers my earlier question about the last White man to double at the Euro Championships. Lemaitre strikes again for 100-200 double
On the busiest week of his athletics career France's rising star Christophe Lemaitre bagged his second gold medal at the European Athletics Championships barely 46 hours after his 100m title bywinning the 200m final. In doing so Lemaitre, the youngest athlete of Friday's final, became the second Frenchman to snatch gold over 200m in the history of the championships, no less than 44 years after his predecessor Roger Bambuck took honours when it was still hand timing.

...

As a double 100 and 200m champion Lemaitre takes the baton from Portugal's Francis Obikwelu who managed that feat in Göteborg 2006 and became the first European-born sprinter to make the 100-200 double since Italy's Pietro Mennea back in 1978.

Sailer grabs Germany's first gold
In a race every bit as pulsating as the men's final of the previous day, Germany's Verena Sailer carried off the biggest prize of her career, snatching gold in a personal best 11.10, winning by by the slender margin of 0.01 from France's Veronique Mang who also set new figures of 11.11.

"Wow, I'm European champion,"Â￾ said an ecstatic Sailer. "I can't believe it. The race was amazing."
...

At 24, Sailer already had the experience behind her to take the championships in her stride. It was three years ago in Debrecen, Hungary, that she laid the foundation for an international senior career when she took the U23 European crown.

Then in the winter of 2009, she celebrated an excellent bronze in the 60m at the European indoor championships in Torino in 7.22 (7.17PB semi-final). That bronze represented her first senior medal in a major championships and was a springboard for greater things later that summer.

On the final day of the Berlin world championships, Sailer anchored the German quartet to a resounding bronze in front of 60,000 spectators for her second major medal in six months.

A personal best in 2009 of 11.18 promised good things for 2010 and a wind-aided 11.11 win in Wattenscheid suggested that maybe the world's elite might have to start worrying ...
Shustov wins gold for Russia in the men's high jump.

Radevica nets gold for Latvia in the women's long jump.

Lewandowki and Ksczot took the gold and bronze medals for Poland in the mens 800 final. What a race it was. Rimmer of England took the silver.

The womens 200 final and the 100 hurdles final are coming up very soon.

unfortunately, i didn't get to see either the women's 200 or 100-hurdles, but Ireland's Derval O'Rourke sets a nation record in the women's 100-hurdles to take silver behind Turkey's Nevin Yanit. Germany's Carolin Nytra takes the bronze. there were a lot of White women flying across the hurdles in the final. you can see the official results here.
in the women's 200, White women from the former USSR take 2-3-4. official results here.

'Tadpole' yet to collect big prize

Unquestionably the best looking of the ten contenders for the BBC's Sports Personality Of The Year - all but one of the others are men - you could be forgiven for thinking that former psychology student Jessica Ennis is also among the richest.

Alas, that is not the case, but Jessica - who won the heptathlon gold medal at the athletics World Championships in Berlin earlier this year - gives a misleading impression of wealth because, three months after her big victory, she has still not collected the £36,000 prize money.

'It's been such a busy time,' says Jessica. 'To be honest, I simply forgot about it. You have to fill out a form and I forgot. I must chase that up!'

Jessica, 23 - who is known as 'Tadpole' because of her diminutive stature - also shrugs off suggestions that she was much admired in Berlin by the world's fastest man, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, insisting that her construction-site manager boyfriend Andy Hill doesn't mind the rumours.

'Some men can be a bit jealous with their girlfriends, but Andy's very good,' she says. 'He knows I have to go away, sometimes for three or four weeks, surrounded by nice athletes who are half-naked!'

Sounds like she's talking about a pet dog or something!! WOW. Andy's on his leash while she goes away, and maybe cheats on him...

Another pic in which I think she looks Turk/Arab:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/09/08/jess-i-want-golden-ring-115875-21656369/

Jessica - winner in Berlin last month and tipped for gold in London in 2012 - said: "We've been together for five years and I can't imagine not being with him. I hope one day, when he can afford it, he'll buy me a nice expensive ring and we'll get married."

I would never allow myself to be treated like that. Why the need for something "expensive?" This makes me sick.

France, and their two White sprinters, takes the gold in the men's 4x100. meanwhile, all-White Italy runs a national record and actually had the lead with 30 meters to go, but they get nipped and must settle for silver. all-White Germany takes the bronze.

Lemaitre's amazing week comes to a close with his third gold medal.
smiley32.gif

in the women's 4x100, Ukraine were incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

theall-White quartetrun a World-leading time of 42.29 to take the gold. and the final leg by Yelizaveta Bryzhina was smoking fast. Ukraine were actually trailing the French by about 4 meters when she received the baton, but she sucked down the French anchor and sailed away to victory. wow! Poland takes the bronze, while Russia settles for a disappointing fourth place.

Russia's women's 4x400 is simply the best. they ran away from the field and set a world-leading time of 3:21.26.

the all-White German quartet took home the silver, and Great Britain took bronze with two White ladies (Nicola Sanders and Lee McConnell). it's nice to see Sanders fight through all those injuries of the last year to contribute. she ran a smoking fast leg in the semifinals.

now on to the men's 4x400 ... the Belgians are the favorite going in, with the two Borlee brothers.

Martyn Rooney ran a smoking final leg, as well, to help Great Britain take the silver. and Belgium are upset and have to settle for bronze.

the future is incredibly bright for our guys in the 400-meters. the 19-year old Krasnov has got an incredibly bright future. this kid has a tremendous closing kick like Lemaitre does in the 200.

move over Jeremy Wariner. witha bit moreexperience and strength/physical maturation, i suspect that Vladimir Krasnov will the THE MAN in the world 400-meter scene. you heard it here first!

but now i hate that the Euro Championships are over ... what a great week for White athletes it has been.
