Caste Football Looks at the 2010 Dallas Cowboys</font>
The Cowboys were one of the first teams to go coal black in the 1990s, with Jimmy Johnson taking over for legend Tom Landry after the Jerry Jones fired him. Jones and Johnson combined to make one of the best caste combinations of all time, but the Steelers and Bucaneers of 2010 are giving them a run for their money. Johnson's only white starters were QB Troy Aikman, FB Moose Johnson, and TE Jay Novacek. The Cowboys of present day have a few more white starters and white players on the roster than their predecessors. Dallas is an above average team in terms of white players and definatly starters, with 8 white starters and 17 white players on the roster.
QB Tony Romo is one of the better quarterbacks in the business, and can both run and throw. Every interception Romo throws is usually lauded and booed by the DWFs, who don't give him any reprives. At least Romo proved he can win in the playoffs, with a blowout win against the Eagles last season. Fourteenth year veteran Jon Kitna is Romo's backup. Kitna, who's had stints with the Bengals and Lions, is a more than capable backup to Tony Romo. Second year man Stephen McGee is the third string, who is going to be Romo's next backup in a year or two, and potentially succeed him down the road.
All Pro tight end Jason Witten is one of the best in the business, and Romo's friend and roommate. Witten is a slick route runner, has good hands, and can run well after the catch. He can also block well. Witten has also appeared in six straight pro bowls. With Deon Anderson out, Chris Gronkowski, brother of Patriot's tight end Rob, has a chance to seize the starting fullback job. Gronkowski might actually be given a carry, but that might be wishful thinking. John Phillips would've been a backup tight end, but he's on I.R.
After Alex Barron's dreadful performance last week against the Redskins last week, in which even the most caste announcers hoped that right tackle Marc Colombo would return soon. Colombo will return this week to claim his starting right tackle spot back. Colombo, in his ninth year out of Boston College, has been a mainstay on the Cowboy's offensive line for the past few years. The Cowboys will also love to have starting left guard Kyle Kosier back this week as well. The ninth year veteran is a great run blocker for Dallas. Doug Free, in his fourth year out of Northern Illinois, looks like he'll be a great left tackle for the Cowboys, finally getting a chance to prove himself after the Cowboys released Flozell Adams.
Backup linemen are Phil Costa and Sam Young, both rookies.
Igor Olshanksy, born in Ukraine, is in his seventh year out of Oregon. The former Charger is one of the better defensive ends in the game, and plays great against the run. Seventh round rookie Sean Lissemore is a backup lineman out of William & Mary. Future Hall of Fame linebacker Keith Brooking is still one of the best in the league at linebacker. The thirteenth year veteran out of Georgia Tech is playing with his first team outside of Georgia in his career, and he still has something left in the tank for this year, and maybe beyond. Rookie Sean Lee out of Penn State is a backup linebacker for right now, and may get time in nickel packages as the season goes on.
12 of the team's 15 coaches are white.
NUMBER OF WHITE PLAYERS ON THE 53 MAN ROSTER: 17
NUMBER OF WHITE STARTERS: 8
GRADE: D+
