WR Charly Martin's chances to make the team for a second year just got a leg up with Wallace Wright going on IR. The team looks to have maybe 7 starters, and as they play two games against the Buccaneers, and the increasingly white unfriendly Saints, they are a team somewhat worthy of support for CFer's if only because their divisional opponents are so much less white friendly. Defensive players Jordan Senn, Aaron Francisco, and Nick Hayden are all said to be on the bubble, hopefully at least two of them make it.

It does look like the Panthers will start 7 white players. Dan Connor will almost definitely be starting this year at middle linebacker. That's great news because he should have been starting two years ago as a rookie. Beason is being moved to the weakside because of an injury so Connor has his opportunity.

Steve Smith came out and said what myself & many here on UP have been saying...there is no legit #2 WR on the Panthers. While Kevin Curtis sits at home & Matt Jones is on the fringes of the 53-man roster... rookie Eric Decker must serve his racial apprenticeship w/ Broncos; meanwhile the inconsistent rookie LaFell has the slight edge as#2 for Panthers. What a JOKE this has truly become!

Smith Not Very Impressed with Panther Recievers!

With only one tuneup left Thursday at Pittsburgh, Carolina may be further away from identifying the No. 2 receiver than when camp began. Nobody from the inexperienced group of Dwayne Jarrett, Brandon LaFell, Kenny Moore, Wallace Wright, David Gettis, Armanti Edwards and Trent Guy seems like a sure bet to replace veteran Muhsin Muhammad, who wasn't re-signed.

Every receiver, it seems, hasflaws.
Jarrett has good hands, but has trouble getting open and often runs wrong routes. LaFell's a rookie and his hands are suspect. Kenny Moore is inconsistent and prone to drops. Wright fumbled Saturday against Tennessee, hurt his shoulder, and missed practice Monday. Gettis, Edwards and Guy are erraticrookies.

Charly Martin may make the roster.

The Charlotte Observer's Darin Gantt predicts that Charly Martin will make the Panthers' final roster over Kenny Moore.

Castefootball looks at the 2010 Carolina Panthers

The 2010 Carolina Panthers look to start 6 white players which is average or slightly above average by NFL standards. I remember the Panthers having quite a few white starters back in the 1990's but it seems they have gone downhill since then.

The starting quarterback this year is Matt Moore. Moore went undrafted in 2007 out of Oregon State but has proven to be a good quarterback. he will be another very talented white quarterback in Jake Delhomme whom Carolina had apparently lost faith in.

The starting left tackle is Jordan Gross. Gross is a former first round pick out of Utah who has made one Pro Bowl so far in his career. His Pro Bowl appearance came in 2008 and he's been very good his entire career. If the fans knew their stuff he would have made multiple Pro Bowl appearances by now.

The only other white starter on the offensive line is center Ryan Kalil. This will be Ryan's fourth season in the league and he managed to make the Pro Bowl last year. He's very good and is the leader of the offensive line.

Jeff King starts at tight end for Carolina. This will be his fourth season as a starter. He's a good blocker but unfortunately he isn't used much in the passing game. Hopefully the change in quarterback will get King some more looks this season.

The defense is pathetic as usual. Dan Connor out of Penn State is the starting middle linebacker. Connor is easily one of the best linebackers in the NFL but wasn't a starter in his first two seasons in the league. He had very miminal playing time until now. In the first game of the season he showed what he is capable of with 13 total tackles and a sack. Look for him to be an All-Pro very soon and possibly even this season.

The only other white starter on defense is defensive end Tyler Brayton. Brayton has been a starter most of his career and played for the Raiders his first five years in the league. He's a solid player but not spectacular.

Some white backups to look for are tight end Gary Barnridge, right guard Geoff Schwartz, defensive tackle Derek Landri, and backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen who could possibly start some games this season if Matt Moore struggles. Also backup outside linebacker Jordan Senn may see some playing time this season

Martin's hamstring injury isn't serious enough to keep him out for the season, but the Panthers needed the roster spot. He'll likely be released with an injury settlement in the next couple of weeks.

Panthers placed MLB Dan Connor (hip) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Connor had been one of the few bright spots for the Panthers this season, so it's a tough break for him and the team. Thomas Davis, who had been hoping to return from a second ACL surgery, also landed on IR. Jon Beason will be moved to middle linebacker to fill the void.

You know how black QBs have dinked-and-dunked and have been praised anyways (like McNabb to Westbrook)? Well, with DeAngelo Williams out, there's not really anyone for Clausen to even throw short-passes to!

BTW, since Clausen left college early (usually a big NO-NO for a QB), I wanted him to go to a team that had an established QB, like New Orleans for instance.

In time JC will be a quality starting QB IMO, but probably not with Carolina since they're taking Luck (a surefire franchise QB) with the #1 draft pick if he comes out early.

If Luck goes to Carolina, he could easily fail and get crippled.. some of the comments under the article are thoroughly overrating Jeff Otah, Duke Robinson and Travelle Wharton (sumo-linemen that are currently injured).

Wharton isn't getting any younger, and Otah moves like someone that's twice his age. Stay in school, Andrew!!

Now don't get me wrong guys, I have no problem with Luck going number 1. Where does this leave Clausen though. He had no receivers to throw to in his rookie season and it looks like they will give up on him. How about getting the guy some decent receivers instead of giving up on him. THis will leave Clausen as a another Brady Quinn for the DWF's to call a bust.

Yeah, that sucks for Clausen if it happens that way. Maybe he'll be traded but it's rare for a team to trade a young highly drafted QB.

By contrast, John Fox, who oversaw the collapse of the Panthers, will immediately get another head coaching job if/when he is fired by Carolina, at least according to the corporate media. Like Jeff Fisher and Jack Del Rio,Fox seems to have obtained an exalted status out of proportion to his actual coaching accomplishments.Edited by: Don Wassall

The midget Steve Smith seems to be finished. He's 31 right now and had a really crappy season. Funny he never gets labeled as small by the media and DWF's at 5'9 and 185 lbs. The other starting receiver, David Gettis, is terrible. Sure Andrew Luck can become the Panthers franchise quarterback but if you stick him with these receivers he'll struggle just as bad as Clausen. It's obvious the Panthers will draft receivers but the question is will they be any good. I remember I did the black receiver busts list and most blacks receivers picked in the early rounds never live up the the hype.

Are the Luck's Jewish or something? Why does the "MSM" want Luck to leave now? He's only a redshirt sophomore.. he could easily leave after his Junior year. If he's Gentile, we have to be aware of a possible "set-up.." Not that he wouldn't be a high-pick, but that's "balanced-out" by him being on a bad team.

Not only that, but the MSM has really started to spread the BS that college QBs aren't going to be able to get "better" by returning to college, trying to get Newton and Pryor to also enter the NFL. I think guys like Pryor have "limited ceilings" -- but college does offer a slower-paced arena for a continued learning that the NFL won't give; it's unforgiving. I get the impression that some racialists want Luck to leave because they think Newton will leave. Our NFL-stable is still solid right now, so Newton shouldn't be dictating anything. The Luck's aren't a poor family, either, and, again, Andrew is ONLY a Sophomore.

Would Matt Ryan have been as dominant as he was - as a rookie - if he had left early? Frankly, I doubt it. There's no doubt that Tim Tebow benefitted from his Senior season also. QB-ing is NO JOKE.. but, if the bruthas want to think it is, let THEM FAIL, but we must be cognizant.

At times, Mark Sanchez (who started about the same amount of college games as Luck) has looked alright for the Jets' -- but does he not have more weapons and a better line than Luck would have (at Carolina)? A different NFL team could definitely have the top pick in '12, but, if it's Carolina again, Luck would likely be "better prepared" anyways and THAT matters. When you sign a huge rookie contract, there is pressure, make no mistake.
