2009 Chicago Bears

Some sites have Olsen running a 4.4 at the Combine. Those are incredible numbers for a guy who is 252lbs. At this point anywhere would be a better fit than in Hatie Smiff's offense.

So the Bears picked up Manumaleuna at TE.

On paper this looks like some kind of joke. Unless I looked at the wrong stats Olsen has caught more passes in three seasons than Manu has caught in nine. Not to mention Manu is 30 years old. WTF?Edited by: Poacher

It is the Bears after all, it doesn't have to make sense. In fact if it doesn't make sense, then it is right in line with tradition.

it makes sense since Martz doesn't use a receiving TEs, he only uses TE as an extra o-lineman.

i hope Olsen gets out!

Hatie Smith declared Craig Steltz their starter for OTAs. Is he just f**king with him or is it his way of getting the black DBacks to step up as the whitey's ahead of them?

I think it's like CB said in another thread. Steltz probably has sneaked his underarmor on again and Lovie forgot who he was. When he finds out, he will be "OH! you is THAT Steltz? White boy I thought I done made this clear?" Edited by: Bear Backer

Unreal that " coach" Smiff still has as job. Only in Bo Husein's world.

It could be another long season for Jay Cutler if this is how the Bears plan on "improving" their wretched offensive line:

Mike Lombardi

of the National Football Post speculates that the Bears will be "all over" free agent OT Flozell Adams. The Bears seem very excited about Chris Williams as their left tackle of the present and future, but there is a hole at right tackle. Adams would presumably be a big upgrade over Frank Omiyale or Kevin Shaffer.

Good news, can't wait to see Clay Matthews blow past the sumo!

On a fair team Craig Steltz is easily a starter at safety...hopefully it's his job for good; but the dearth of dwf's will haveunder the microscope looking for any mis-steps the slow white boy might have....he will have to play near Pro-Bowl level for the jock sniffers...he could be among the NFL INT Leaders if he starts all 16 games...
The Bears know they must have Mr.Urlacher back if they are gonna have a chance!

What's the status of DT Dusty Dvoracek?? It's a shame he can't stay healthy; he's a disrupting force/impact player!

The Bears could use a rookie-WR like Riley Cooper or Pat Simonds in the upcoming draft!Edited by: TwentyTwo

How many 1/2 dozens years is Hatie Smiff going have to reach his potenial as a SuperBowl winner given his record recently? I suspect at least two 1/2 dozem more! Man its great being a negro coach and affelet in today's NFL. You can suck as a coach and be a self professed cancer on a team, then instantly get picked up by a another affeletic team. If your white on probation, have a sip of beer, your out of the league for at least a year. Now that is fair, "White man be f'ing wiff us too long". NOT!

from rotoworld:

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune is hearing that the Bears want to see Craig Steltz at free safety.

Starting Steltz at free safety this season could be a recipe for disaster. He's an intimidating hitter, but is often exposed in coverage and doesn't have much agility or speed. The Bears should continue to look to bring in safety help from the outside, possibly in the third round of this week's draft.
Source: Chicago Tribune

at least they give him credit for being an intimidating hitter... but just how in hell is he going to be worse than Al Afalava who they had at FS last season?

EDIT: the excerpt from the actual Tribune article:

Is Craig Steltz the favorite to be the starter at strong safety this year? I think he should be given every opportunity to start given that both Payne and Afalava started for almost a full season each and apparently didn't impress enough for the coaches. I remember when he was drafted Mel Kiper said Steltz reminded him of Doug Plank. Do you see that and do you think he can be an above-average starter in the league?-- David Littlebone, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Bears coaches rate Steltz as one of their top two safeties at the moment -- at which position is less clear. But from what I've been hearing they want to see him at free safety. Steltz did a nice job when he played late in the season. He has good instincts and he does not make mental mistakes very often. He also is a big hitter -- hence the comparison to Plank. But I don't believe he has the speed, range and coverage skills the Bears need in a free safety. That's why they still are looking. Eventually, maybe he settles in at strong. The bottom line is we have not yet seen enough of Steltz to really know what he can or can't be.Edited by: backrow

He doesn't "look" like he has much speed or agility because of the unnaturally light (for a DB) skin tone. He ran a 4.6 40, a 4.19 short shuttle, and a 7.03 3-cone with a 35" vertical and a 9'10" broad jump on his pro day in 2008. At that same pro day, "speedy" WR teammate Early Doucet only managed 4.59 40, 4.45 SS, 7.4 3C, 34.5VJ, and 9'6"BJ. Who's more agile and explosive? But Craig is slow, non-agile, and only good because he's a "big hitter".

Well he's served his mandatory 3 years of white apprenticeship, this is a make of break year for Steltz! Hopefully he can silence some of the haters and critics.

Here's a pic that I found while surfing around the web. It's Jake Sharp at the Bears rookie mini-camp. I haven't found any word as to how he did, though.

We just have to hope and pray that this kid sticks. If anything his pure speed would allow him to have a roster spot if the league was fair to white skill position players. He might be the fastest player on the Bears if given a chance.

Impossible. Don't you know that Devin Hester is one of the fastest guys in the NFL and that is to never be questioned.

Yeah and Jake Sharp can run in the 4.3 range as well. So what is your point?

I was joking/being sarcastic. I can imagine DWFs responding in a similar fashion to your statement bout Sharp being the fastest on the Bears.

A white tight end can't be singled out as having speed unless he's racially balanced with a lard ass black teammate.

Actually, TEs are welcome in Bears' offense

Four tight ends may not be too many for the 2010 Chicago Bears, according to new coach Mike DeBord, who discussed the possibility Thursday on "The Afternoon Saloon"Â￾ on ESPN 1000.

"But as Mike [Martz] stated, he's not really had that fast guy like Des[mond] Clark or Greg Olsen, those kinds of guys. So he's actually excited about being able to utilize them in the [passing game] and run game. That's the thing we're trying to find out right now is what they can do best. We're teaching the entire offense and just trying to find out what guys can do best."Â￾
