A strong piece of evidence supporting the existence of a racial Caste System in the NFL is how little the racial composition of individual teams and the league as a whole changes over time. For instance, the Eagles roster has pretty much turned over since 2002, yet every year the team starts 3 or 4 white players out of 22, and has 13 or 14 white players on the 53 man roster. For it to remain so stable defys the odds of probability along with common sense. If football was truly a color blind sport, there would be fluctuations, both short and long term.
Instead, virtually nothing changes; positions that become all black remain all black in perpetuity; positions that become mostly black never see even a temporary influx of white talent despite the tens of millions of whites who play football. And the one position that remains mostly white, quarterback, remains that way in spite of tremendous, non-stop efforts to change it. If similar efforts were made to ensure that capable whites play running back, wide receiver, and defense, one would see an NFL that is genuinely integrated, not one that remains an increasingly laughable and grotesque affirmative action project.
The Iggles have three white starters, with a fourth one, WR Kevin Curtis, out for a few weeks recovering from a sports hernia-related operation. Andy Reid and the Caste crowd in Philly must be given credit for signing Curtis away from St. Louis, where he was consigned seemingly for his entire career behind Isaac Bruce despite being younger, faster and more dynamic. Curtis was installed as the starter last year and put up the best numbers by an Eagles wide receiver not named Terrell Owens in a decade -- 77 receptions for 1,110 yards and 6 TDs. Despite being one of the top 15 receivers in the league, the refrain was made over and over by media pundits and fans alike that the Eagles had no "weapons" at wide receiver, ignoring the contrary evidence right in front of them because it came in the wrong wrapping.
With Curtis, out the only white starters on offense are RT Jon Runyan, a 13 year veteran out of Michigan; and LG Todd Herremans.
Rookie guard Mike McGlynn out of Pitt is the only white backup lineman.
Backup TE Brent Celek out of Cincinnati flashed a lot of receiving and run after the catch ability in limited playing time as a rookie last season. He may sooner or later be promoted over the consistently inconsistent L. J. Smith.
Veteran Matt Schobel is the team's third tight end.
Kevin Kolb was drafted in 2007 as Donovan McNabb's heir apparent, but when that may occur is unclear. The injury prone McNabb seems fully recovered from his torn ACL and has often been rumored to be on the trading bloc, but for now Kolb is firmly ensconced behind McNabb in the QB pecking order.
A. J. Feeley is back in Philadelphia as the third QB.
The bright spot on defense is Stewart Bradley, now the starting middle linebacker in his second season. The former Cornhusker looked sensational starting the last game of the '07 season and the first one in '08 and it looks like another white linebacking star has arrived.
Strong safety Sean Considine began last year as the starter but was eventually benched, due as much to the screaming and yelling of the drunk white fans as for insufficient play. White fans seem to have a particular hatred for any and all white safeties not named John Lynch. Black defensive backs are beaten all the time, sometimes horribly, but that is always credited to a great play by the black wide receiver or running back, or is simply instantly forgiven and forgotten. When a white defender is beaten, the fans howl for his head. In l7 games as a starter, Considine had well over 100 tackles, but all it took was a couple of missed tackles and a bad angle, and he was finished in the eyes of the fans. No learning curve is allowed, the white d-back must go!
Dan Klecko, who can play just about any position but who has never been allowed to start at any, is with the Eagles this season as a backup tackle.
Chris Gocong, who is of mixed racial background, is an outside linebacker who has been in and out of the starting lineup.
