The NBA and NHL In Boston

Back in the early 60's, a comparison was sometimes drawn between the attendance figures of the NBA's Boston Celtics and the NHL's Boston Bruins. The Celtics were perennial champions and the Bruins (at that time) were low in the NHL standings. However, the Bruins far outdrew the Celtics. I...

    The Colts

Don said it better than I can. Peyton Manning is the kind of player who will cause the Super Bowl to be watched by a larger audience than normal if he plays in it. Several months ago, I posted on this Forum that Mickey Mantle was the last white athlete to be the Number 1 athlete in pro...

    The Colts

A good point by Don on the imprtance of Peyton Manning gettting a Super Bowl ring. What would the reaction be if Michael Vick's Falcons won the Super Bowl?

    Let him run?

I suppose if Jim Taylor was around today, he would be used the way that Kreider is.

    Jake Plummer

Yes, and Csonka was known for not fumbling. During the 1971 season, Csonka only fumbled once all season, I believe. In Super Bowl VI against Dallas, he fumbled in the first quarter. Dallas went on to win 24-3. The Dolphins went unbeaten in 1972, winning Super Bowls both that year and 1973.

    Hoyle Granger

Yes, (as usual) I remember Hoyle Granger. I even recall him playing against Tennessee for Mississippi State. His name was pronounced- Grunjay. He was a Cajun from Louisiana. He was a powerful runner at Mississipi State from 1963-65. There are several reasons he never became famous. First, he...

    Eli Manning

I just glanced at the NY Post sports section. It seems that the fans sometimes boo Eli and say he'll never be as good as Peyton. Well, it seems that Eli is doing well for a 2nd year QB.

A history of blacks at Texas schools

Texas had introduced the wishbone offense that year. Tennessee had never seen it, and the Vol defenders couldn't follow the ball. Texas won 36-13 after leading 28-0 at halftime. Texas QB Jim Street and runners Chris Gilbert and Steve Worster had a field day. It was no contest.

A history of blacks at Texas schools

Bronk, Yes, I'm a Vol fan who started listening to games on the radio at age 10 in 1960. I first saw a game in Neyland Stadium in September 1965, UT-Auburn which ended in a 13-13 tie. In 1965, the old grads dressed up for a football game, now everybody dresses down. In 1965, Tennessee went...

    Upset Saturday?

Don, Fullmer's job may be in jeopardy. This year he lost to Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina (Spurrier), and now Vanderbilt (maybe Kentucky next week). If you live in Tennessee, you know that losing to Vandy on top of the "big ones," is something I Tennessee coach can't do and hold his...

A history of blacks at Texas schools

I remember when Warren McVea was a sophomore at Houston in 1965. It was big news at the time. That year, Houston played at Tennessee. It was the Vols first game after the 7-7 surprise tie with Alabama I referred to in another thread. Tennessee won 17-8. McVea and another Houston player were the...
